Lets compare Independence Day to say Avatar. In Independence Day they actually blew up a small scale replica of a city with mini explosions. In Avatar you had them all behind keyed behind a stunning computer generated background.
I think the combination of high def and computer generated graphics took the luster of explosions away. Watching Independence Day, Star Wars, Terminator 1 and 2, etc are still really cool to watch simply because they couldn't over rely on computers to do the graphics. They had to physically make the explosions.
The link forwards to a conversation between Wikipedia admins. It seems like there is just one user being a prick. Why not just require user registration for IPs that come from Verizon? Hell, why not require registration for every edit on Wikipedia? I love the idea of being able to make anonymous edits, but seriously wouldn't it make their lives easier by just requiring it for everyone?
The answer is more diesel powered vehicles. Diesel has a higher energy content and with modern CDI engines can be as fast and
greener than a typical gas engine. Although while the cost per gallon of diesel is higher, a small to mid sized diesel passenger car can get 45-55 mpg. Throw in better aerodynamics and we can have more fuel efficient vehicles.
I'm under 30 and I have always had a side table alarm clock. It has a very reliable 9 volt backup battery as well. I once disconnected the clock's power cord and it happily went on doing its daily job for a whole month until the battery died. It has a radio, three different alarm presets, time/date, and it cost me 8$.
I don't think it's all that hard for an adult to understand that blowing soap bubbles into a police officers face is going to get you arrested, and he did give her the courtesy of a warning first. I don't really see the controversy there. Well, not unless people are unable to disentagle the word "bubble" from the "soap" part. Blowing a rather effective eye irritant in a cops direction isn't likely to end well, no matter if it's in bubble or other form.
it does seem like he could have a thicker skin about random internet jackhole comments though. you don't HAVE to read them.
He was wearing sunglasses. The man was on a power trip and should have acted like the officer to the right of him. Patiently watching the protesters and making sure they have their right to voice their problem.
Thanks for the reply to my post. I read the article, but I can tell you know I would be really annoyed if some kids started sending me text messages in Spanish.
So the summary went from an anti sexting patent, some parental control application, to learning Spanish by changing the phone's default language, and finally to close a way to protect our celebrities from their antics.
I don't tend to complain about the summaries, but man I guess I am going to have to go and read the article now to make sense of this summary.
I just spent a lot of cash on the Waves Mastering Suite for Pro Tools. In fact any "multimedia" software has a crazy price. I figure they do this to milk media companies for all that they're worth.
I took the college required SAT test in 2003. On that test I was allowed to use a TI84 (and all of is variants). The TI86 onwards was not allowed. My problem with mathematics is that I take my time and not rush things. I always fudge up formulas along the way.
The math section is a speed test to determine who can do it the fastest. I had a factoring program I downloaded from TI-Calc.org that let me factor polynomials in roughly 10 seconds. Factoring by hand takes me so much longer.
So really I wasn't making this up. But in the end my score on the test wasn't very good so if using the program kept me from looking like an even bigger idiot to college admissions panel than so be it. I'm happily employed (with health insurance/pension) and doing very well regardless of what this stupid test tried to show./p
Have a page with a fax number where next of kin can send off a death certificate as well as a fill in a page form specifying the exact account. Higher some minimum wage monkey to log the accounts. Bonus points if you can automate the process.
I had the best time using my TI-84 on tests and the SATs. I had several physics and math programs that made completing pointless busy work so much faster along with showing the formulas most of the time! My favorite program was this "Fake Clear" program that would trap the "Memory Reset" function and allow for a user to use the wipe function without deleting any programs after typing in a set of numbers to unlock it.
Was it cheating? Did I do something unethical?
I don't know, nor do I care. I could recreate my steps and completely understood the math behind it.
I've been out of school for so long now and frankly I hope that these hackers give the fat finger to TI and the College Board. I have nothing but disdain for those two organizations
I don't know why colleges waste time on pointless technology when there are easier and less expensive methods to stop cheating.
Instead of a 500 person lecture hall bring it down to 30 students. Watch the little bastards during a test. See little Sammy Jean pulling her skirt down in the corner? Move around the room and watch her eyes start darting around as she starts to get nervous. Walk up to her and ask, "Is everything ok?" I bet she'll probably admit to it on the spot.
Students will go and tell their friends what the questions were on a test, don't make us sign some stupid waiver saying we won't because we will. If it bothers the lecture, professor, or god forbid the do-nothing provost, change some of the questions for each section or just stop whining.
It's a pointless arms race where the kids are always going to have the one up. Stop wasting the waste of money and have your professors and TAs walk around and watch the students. Realize that making a good effort to stop 95% of cheaters will work and the other 5% will grow up to work for Lehman Brothers, Citi, or become politicians. Needlessly wasting money on anti-cheating or plagiarism tools takes away money from improving services like the shitty food in the dining halls, the rat infested dorms, or having a notable group perform on the weekend prior to finals will make your student population happier and more likely to be donating alumni in the future.
And finally, In my own not so humble opinion, the risk of getting caught just isn't worth blatantly cheating on a test. Most professors will just fail you for the semester which is more than enough of a punishment. There are the few that will go above and beyond the duty to make your life hell (suspension, expulsion), but failing a course is more than enough of an incentive to keep me from cheating.
I have a bunch of really old student student news shows up on my personal account. The opening used at best 15 seconds of some random pop song du jour. The audio on the video is now completely muted because of god forbid 15 seconds of fair use music.
It's not even worth the effort to edit and upload the videos. Youtube is no longer useful for what its intended purpose was.
I had my first debit card at 14. One does not need a credit card to buy things online. Also with you being 17 you can open a bank account under your own name very soon.
I used to pirate a lot of music, nowadays with my steady job I don't mind paying for albums any more. I listen more to Pandora than my own mp3 player.
Will they make this as easy as claiming my earnings on black market goods like drugs and firearms? Maybe they should require stamps to be purchased for Ebay and Craigslist sales.
I like the concept of opt in taxes. That and I wish I could write off my net losses (heavy sarcasm).
TheKidWho I understand where you're coming from and I certainly remember how the older versions relied heavily on the stylus. Go to a Verizon, AT&T,etc store and try out some of the newest models they have on display. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
On top of that too, if you have an older Windows Mobile based device you can set up the D-Pad keys to function with one-handed thumb control kind of like a blackberry by mapping the Start Menu, ok/cancel, and other keys in the settings. I know though that this should be done by default, but still every little bit helps.
I'm trying not to sound condescending here, but are you kidding me? Have you ever used a Windows Mobile phone before?
I've been using Windows Mobile since the 2003se days and it has been light years ahead of whatever competitor was pumping out. Things like multitasking, a somewhat open platform for development, and an interface that makes sense.
The only downside has been the long time insistance from manufactures to only use 64mb of ram. Nowadays that number is up to 256mb.
HTC has a number of drool worthy phones that spec wise pound the iphone to dust and anything that Palm can come up with.
And finally Microsoft leaves its homebrew ROM kitchen development alone. Sites like PPCGeeks.com and xda-developers are two that come to mind.
It's sad that people disregard Windows Mobile. It is nothing like the desktop crap. And seriously what major software or hardware manufacture doesn't pump out crap and fix it later? At least Windows Mobile works out of the box.
Disclaimer: My first PDA was a Sony Clie. I loved Palm and used it for many years, but it's time to use a real device and software.

And by it I mean registration, not forcing everyone into editing articles anonymously. Man this has been one long weekend.

Phew, I needed a good rant today.
Thanks for the information. I'll give it a go later today.
Odd, I must have a stuttering problem.

Let's make New York City its own state. Heck throw in Long Island while you're at it.
And while we're on the subject of Patterson let me repeat what I said earlier in a story about him involving the NBC and Comcast merger.
I just don't think Governor Paterson sees the repercussions of this. Seriously he's blind to the blatant civil rights problems this will create.
The ACLU needs to give him the cane for this.
Why would New York Governor David Patterson support a merger between two companies primarily invested in video entertainment?
The joke is that it took them this long. Paying for wifi is such a 2004 thing.
and it didn't work out too well.
When I drink coffee it helps me wake up. No more no less. Granted I could run a mile and wake up that way, but coffee does it a lot faster.
