is this, like a joke. mature audience alwasys considered star wars as a 'second rate pseudo-philsophical kind, for the poor'. What's next? pokemon for mature audience?
on the other hand, some of those star wars fans never grow up --- but on yet other hand --- should they be considered as the mature audience?
Anyone familiar with the history of the second world war should be aware that one of the goals of germans was the systematic extermination of polish intelligentsia. which they've done with a great zeal. the modern-days revisionists (those denying the holocaust alltogether) refer to this fact as 'some misunderstanding between the Germany and Poland'. unfortunately, not many people today are familiar with the history, in general.
the low frequencies in high quality headphones are much better defined than the same low frequencies in high quality speakers.
Of course, when you on the bus or jog, you wear less than high quality headphones, but even then, those cans often have fairly decent bass.
From my experience: my speakers are KEF 104.2, good cans I use for listening at home are AKG 240DF, their lower frequencies are much better than KEF. But even my portable cans, Koss Porta Pro (and Sporta Pro), provides some really decent low frequencies.
Sony minidisc format is really good. A very small RW magneto-optical disk, with 1GB capacity in its latest reincrantation, and with a standard FAT directory structure. Alas, all minidisc players/recorders are still limited to Sony's proprietory ATRAC format, and a bunch of restrictions if you want to move those files between the players and you computer (yes, Sony tries to easy them a bit, but still those are files are *not* treated as the regular disk file). By adapting standards like MP3 and AAC, Sony minidisc format will finally have a chance. Just think of it. Fairly small player. More efficient (in terms of energy consumption) than hard-drive based player. The cost of media (per GB) is about in the same ball park as hard drive based players and better than the solid state (you can get 1GB disk for $7-10). Give me MP3 and AAC as the compression options - and I'll be seriously considering those players.
I read some papers on Xen. it is certainly *not* the virtual machine to start with. It won't take unmodified version of Linux and run it. Extensive changes are required. The major benefit is high efficience compared with the 'classic VM' approach.
Given that, there is no reason why tweaks required by Xen can't be made the standard feature of the Linux Kernel. In fact, the major problem with any VM approach - either it is not efficient, or it requires some kernel tweaks. Essentially, the 'host os' and the 'guest os' need some kind of handshake, so the host properly traps interrupts from the guest, simulates them and fakes the result. Again, there is no reason why this kind of handshake and related staff can't be standardized. Not sure is this is the actual intention of Red Hat, though. What I strongly believe - with integrated hooks VM will be clean. Just take a look at VMWare architecture: it is messy, they are jumping through the hoops, it is amazing that it works at all (and fairly efficient as well).
this is the *quality of life* that counts. not how long do you live.
incidently, I'm about 20 pounds overweight. My physician asked me to try modified Atkins diet (much better than the original one). I've lost those 20 pounds and more in about a month, but every day I had that awful carbo craving. So after living like a shite for 5-6 months, I've said 'enough of that'. Back to pizza! I've gained my extra 20 pounds (and more), but am happy as a pig... But I digress... or may be not (?)
nothing kills free radicals like a good shot of ice-cold Stoly. A join russian-british team plans to test chasing Stoly with Guinness. I've already tried it, and I can tell you - it kicks the shit ouf of all free radicals I ever had. Give it a shot (yeah, pun is intended).
I predict PlanetLab will replace WWW at about the same time IPv6 replaces IPv4.

funny, I took fahrenheit 451 DVD a couple weeks ago (Truffeau sp?), watched for about 20 minutes and returned it. Did not like the screen adaptation at all. Hard to explain why. The book has lots of tension, power, truly apocaplitic future. The movie? Cartoonish, two-dimensional, almost like Woody Allen 'Sleeper' but trying to be serious.
A good movie on a basis of 451F is possible in principle, and with a current adminstration on a loose, the whole story is something more of us should become familiar with.
As for the 'Thunder' - as someone has pointed out, it a nice little self-contained story but making the movie out of it? Only in Hollywood!
of course Ballmer is not *trying* to spread FUD ..

I've used to work for IBM. Remember recieving my laptop (T21), don't recall any special notes on 'not downloading any patches'. OTOH, this patch changes so many things, that I understand why IBM is so paranoid about it. They don't want to deal with all the broken apps.
Personally, I'm going to hold on with this patch as well. Why do I need it anyway? When I ru Windows (and I have a dual boot), I only use Mozilla as a browser, have firewall, Active-X tracker, always up to date virus scanner, and several spybot scanners/detectors. So I would rather hold on till, say, the end of this year -- when dust settles down... Or may be never.

"In todays' news: Porn Industry mulls moving to IP v6".
(substitute IP v6 with Linux, Ogg Vorbis, Firefox,

you can come up with anything. For instance:
outsourcing means cheaper labor, higher profits to high-level executives.
So they have more money to burn. Thus increased activities in service/entertainment industry.
Conclusion: Unemployed programmer? Become a waiter or learn how to give BJ.
I rest my case.
