Not that I'm trying to offend Ph. K. Dick's fans, but IMHO he was just a schizofrenic. He does not offer any particular insights into the future. Yes, his writings are notably different from most of the SciFi garbage, but diferent doesn't mean better. It's OK, but would you expect any revelations from psychotic type of personality? I don't. Yeah, I read many of his books, just to see what's this all about. As I said, my only impression that he's quite delusional kind of person.

I was rather pissed. And the only thing I was going to do is to look up a few math terms. Ended up using PlanetMath and few other sites, but when Wki came back, I check them as well as guess what: they had the most comprehensive and informative articles. That's the first outage I remember since I started using Wiki.
the whole thing of "downloading DVD in a few seconds" is a complete nonsense. We're talking about a backbone router. You download speed is limited by the bandwidth of the either end point of your connection, whichever is slower. *That's* your major bottleneck, and not a bottleneck on a backbone.
I take the notes with a pen and paper and also record everything with a voice recorder. Since I'm taking mostly math courses, it works out quite well. I focus on writing the formula with annotations, and then when the lecture is over, I reconstruct the whole thing. The annotations help to connect the voice recording and my scribbles. That takes some extra time, of course, but the end result is detailed lecture, with everything on a blackboard carefully reconstructed. As a last shot, I typeset the whole thing in LaTeX (if I have time).
I think, if you start using computer (tablet or whatever), you won't have the ``instant connection to the recording media" that pen and paper provide.
As a side note, my favorite professor normally creates some handwritten outline of the lecture, but all the proofs and staff he does on the fly. By accident, while talking to him, I've mentioned I have recorded and typeset his lectures. He looked at them and liked them so much he asked me if he can use them as a supplementary material for his course(s). I didn't mind at all, of course.
When I learned the basic algorithms, we used Pascal. It had just a few quirks, so you can focus on logic. Subsequently I ended up mastering both C and assembly language fairly quickly and fairly well, and those became my main languages.
Since Pascal is essentially passe, I would recommend some minimalistic interpretive language instead, like Python, as a starting point.

Not sure if this is a good or bad end of the story, though.

How to synchronize both eyes. Even after a few shots of Stoli.

but I wasn't ... eh forget it.
This is what I've done once upon a time.
1. Tell management the code is completely undocumented, not maintainable, unstructred piece of Dukakis.
2. Offer to rewrite the code completely. Chance are they would agree. Of course it depends how large is the code.
3. Rewrite the code. Make sure it's undocumented, not maintainable, unstructured piece of Dukakis.
4. Resign.

that long ago, we would have never had an Apple Tablet on January 27th. What a scary thought!

We don't have a quantum computer to provide the quantum encryption yet, but the encryption is already broken.
I think it's time for my beauty rest.
