Am I the only person who thinks the 1984 apple commercial's current status in history is nothing but revisionist bs?
I'm sure that other people who weren't old enough to remember agree with you.
I couldn't afford one in those days, but I was aware of the Macintoshes since about 1988.
It's like one guy wrote an article about it in the 90s and everyone bought into it like all the great things people had to say about Ronald Regan.
I can only assume that you mean Ronald Reagan. Although I bordered on hating him when he was in office, middle America loved that man. In the 1984 election he took 49 States. Better than either Bush and better than Clinton.
Trade secrets are money makers, and you can't definitively say that opening their source wouldn't give away some trade secrets or algorithms that keep NVidia at the cutting edge of video card production.
Who can benefit from getting access to NVidia trade secrets? Other graphics card makers.
Do other graphics card makers already have the ability to use a debugger to step through nvidia's binary only drivers? Yes.
The only people who could possibly benefit from getting access to NVidia's proprietary secrets already have the means to do so, IF their drivers contain such information.
NVidia has every right in the world to do what they want to with their IP, that much is not in dispute. What's being disputed is their Lame-ass excuse for it. Instead of saying "Because we feel like it, bitches. Now either buy our cards or don't." They have conconted this bullshit excuse about trade secrets.
To the prudes out there that can't stand to hear what he has to say, don't listen. Turn the dial.
You don't have to be a prude to not like Stern. In fact, prude is one of the least accurate words that one could use to describe me but I just don't think he's funny anymore.
Picric acid is some nasty stuff. Highly unstable. If it was in such widespread use in the last century, I'm surprised that there weren't more such explosions.
I too am a divorced geek. Fortunately I had no children with the ex, and I don't know if it's the job so much that contributed to it as much as my geekness.
Even when we're not at work, we're still geeks and concerned with all manner of geekery.
I was playing chess with a friend once and he attempted to castle through check. When I told him that it was illegal, he didn't believe me so I suggested that he google for it. This dumb ass typed "castle thru check". Not surprisingly he didn't get any results. When I demanded that he spell "through" properly, he was greeted with thousands of results.
People have begun to assume that the shortcuts that we use for convienence are simply "the way things are" when it comes to spelling.
Given the average intelligence of the people assosiated with Jack Thompson and his anti-videogame 'movement', I doubt any of them are smart enough to actualy get the computer game installed and running, much less have the skill to get past even the first stages of the game.
Reiser was no ordinary internet user, and his wife did not seem ordinary either. I'm surprised to be reading it on Slashdot and not seeing it on CNN.
Mundanes don't really care. How many people aside from geeks know who Hans is? Joe Sixpack will pretty much respond with "Hans who? Who the fuck is this guy?"
Do you live near them, or do you know them closely? No? A newspaper says she disappeared? Various articles on the internet? Sounds alleged from here...
I wonder what they found more than a month after a person allegedly disappeared to meet their legal burden.
WTF do you mean "allegedly disappeared"? She disappeared. Even if she took off and is hiding out because Faye Resnick's cocaine dealer wants to kill her, she still "disappeared".Allegedly Hans is responsible.
Pretty bad. You know, its comments like this (even in the semi-anonymous and lame-black-humor-filled world of Slashdot) that keeps our image down. No wonder most people don't care about our opinions and treat us with lack of respect.
You probably blame rape victims for looking too good.
Being different than most people sets us apart. Most people won't care less about our opinions unless we become exactly like them. When that happens, what's the difference between us and them? Here's a little hint. Our opinions wouldn't matter then either because we'd be cookie cutter conformists and have the same opinions as the mundanes.
True, it was an extremely lame joke but no one makes any progress in life by matching other's expectations of them.
Yep, it's Balkanization. I don't see any ethnic cleansing going on though, so tell me what else about Balkanization is bad?
It's assholeish. It's also the reason why spamhaus is facing the loss of their domain name.
Being in such a position of power made them a target. I think that they're legally right, they CAN designate anyone a spammer if they choose. US courts don't have any authority over them. But at the same time, it makes me smile to think that admins like you will have to do a little more work to be a dick.
So not only do they come via the H1-B program and depress IT wages and provide piss poor telephone customer support but now they're beating us to the punch when it comes to potty humor!

Is it considered earned income or a capital gain?
From a tax perspective, there's a huge difference.

And the cookie store smelled like beer.
Mmmmm, Beer.

Why can people own high-power firearms that have a good chance of killing someone, whereas guided rockets are right out?
It's called the bill of rights.

How else are lazy drug smugglers supposed to anonymously mail their packages of contraband?

Let's have a big hand for adopting their women?
Sure, but as a part of the deal they have to adopt our dentistry.
LK
Congratulations, you've failed at being a man.
And yet you must hide behind the sheild of anonymity. That speaks volumes about you.

Trying to get something off of the internet is like trying to get pee out of a pool.
Why not just patch the vulnerabilities? If publishers would fix their shortcomings then it wouldn't be an issue.
