  1. Re:What does he have on you, Bill? on Microsoft Abandons Gay Rights Bill · · Score: 1

Gay people just want to live their lives like anyone else.

Then why do they keep reminding everyone that they're not like anyone else?

They are not hurting you, why do you care if they have equal rights?

The problem is that they aren't seeking "equal rights", they're looking for special rights.

They want next of kin status for their partners, that's fair. They want to inherit property and make medical decisions for their partners, that's fair. They want visitation rights to children that aren't biologically theirs but they helped raise, that's fair. They want to redefine marriage to suit their desires, not fair and this is what the battle is over.

No, that one's ever further off. Jews were/are persecuted because of their beliefs. In places where homosexuals are persecuted, it's because of their actions. There is a world of difference.

Don't try that bullshit. Do NOT try to equate the struggle for racial equality with the battle over equality of sexual orientation. It belittles us both for you to try.

Why are they bound to configure and compile their kernels on embedded systems? They can configure and compile on any system and then move the kernel to the embedded system.

If you want minimalistic device support, don't compile the modules. It's that simple.

Linux NEEDS as much device support as possible. The last thing any of us wants is to watch it die because no one thought to work on a driver for some new "gotta have it" product.

The problem I have with most "alternative energy" proposals, is that they don't really propose anything.

Let's say that GM, Ford and Chrysler started selling cheap and reliable hydrogen powered cars. Where would we get all of the hydrogen to run them? H2 gas isn't exactly plentiful and pure. We need to extract it from other things. We can either extract it from petroleum or we can crack it from water. Both of which require more power than we get from the resultant H2.

To generate that energy we've got our choice of conventional energy sources; coal, oil, wind, solar and nuclear.

We need to improve conventional energy sources and at the same time, develop alternatives. We NEED to improve the security and safety of our current Fission power plants. We need to deploy more solar and wind power plants. We need to use the most energy efficient devices we have. We need to make our technology more energy efficient.

I completely agree with you about the baby steps, we can't do it all overnight. We need to take progress as it comes.
