He was against Kyoto when he ran. He courted pro 2nd amandment and pro life voters. After he was elected he went on to ignore Kyoto. He allowed the Clinton Gun Ban to lapse and re-impose the global gag rule on abortion.
Maybe I'm thinking too much into it, but I can think of a half dozen good ways to put some indirection between you and the device.
From free webmail services, to a laptop in your car that connects to the device via 802.11 that isn't controlled by the company. All people really need to do is think.
but I do some contracting for a company that has many legal requirements. They develop databases for medical institutions. To my knowledge there is no OSS being used, but that's primarily because the company was founded after the CEO took a liking to Filemaker.
The company has no problem making use of Macs as well as Windows machines. If there was an OSS Filemaker Pro clone, I'm sure that they'd take a look at it.
I got so sick of my friends and relatives and now my girlfriends friends and relatives coming to me for computer advice that I no longer do it for free.
To make it worth my while I charge a $40-$50 to check out a machine. That gets them AVG, Ad Aware SE and Spybot S&S installed and up to date. I'll clean out all known spyware/viruses and defrag the system.
The software is all free, I'm charging them to make the irritation worth my while.
If only more people were willing to take an active role in everything they do (kids, computers, etc). Things would work a whole lot better. Then again, we live in a society where we expect everyone else to be responsible for everything we do. Time to own up and face the facts.
Some people should not own computers. Some people should not have children. If you're not willing to take a little time and educate yourself about something, you have no business getting involved.
They'll do everything in their power to prevent killers and serial rapists from getting the death penalty, but they'll go the extra mile to starve a handicapped woman to death.
To my knowledge modern liberals have only been outdone in that respect once in recent history. The people who outdid them had a name that rhymed with "Witler". Killing the mentally defective and infirmed in any way smacks a bit too much of eugenics for civilized people.
Some intellectual and ethical company they like to keep eh?
People of reasonable intelligence tend to find legal ways of making their livings. Street level drug dealers aren't really the cream of the intellectual crop.
They're the weak link in the chain of drug distribution. Once they're looking at 30 years in prison, many of them will flip and give up the mid level dealers. On and on up the chain it goes.
IMHO, Tribes 2 was shit before the "Classic Patch". For those who are unaware, this patch returned the gameplay elements from the original Tribes to Tribes 2.
I didn't buy Tribes 2 until after they released the patch. A buddy of mine had it and I tried it, thought it was poop so I never bought it. After the Classic Patch, another friend showed me and it was like the magic was back.
Of course I agree that universities should not censor information, especially not in such unclever ways as declaring a protocol illegal. But I can understand why some universities have to kneel before the commerical powers that be.
What's next? Refusing to teach unpopular history?
What if Bayer or Volkswagen decides to sue a university for teaching students that during WWII they used jewish slave labor?
Or what if Hormel wants to sue a university for teaching students that during the civil war they sold tainted beef to the US Government and many men died of food poisoning?
Universities shape public policy. The civil rights struggle would not have been as successful without college students. Educational institutions are where people learn how to interact with everyone else. From kindergarten through postgraduate work, educational institutions have a profound effect on the kinds of citizens we become. Second only to our parents/families...
Unless you have an absolute POS sound card, any loss of fidelity due to the digital - analog - digital round trip will be undetectable to the human ear, particuarly if the original digital source was encoded with a lossy codec.
Maybe if that particular human has hearing problems, has never heard the song before or is listening in the middle of traffic.
For the music that I really dig, I only want to listen to high bitrate MP3s or straight from my CDs.
Monster Cables are also good for car audio. When you want to minimize the whine that your alternator introduces, a good shielded cable is the way to go. It doesn't have to be that brand, any good brand will do. Just don't skimp by buying Radio Shack el-cheapo cables.
The broken right of first sale is what killed Circuit City's implimentation even though the price was lower.
I went round after round with the managers at CC when I worked there on this. When DIVX was failing corporate put pressure on store managers to push it more. They in turn put pressure on us to push DIVX. I told my manager that I'd obey any directive that he gave me, but I wouldn't lie. So if any customer asked me if I was going to buy one, I'd have to tell them no. If they then asked WHY, I'd have to be honest about it.
My manager wisely didn't try to force me to sell them. We reached the comprimise of me asking "Have you seen our DIVX demonstration?"
Why should I not as a parent have the right to say "please block all X rated sites"?
You DO have the right to ask your ISP to block any site you want, and in a sane state they have the right to deny your request at the risk of you going to another ISP.
This law puts the force of the state behind any request for censorship.
That's the problem.
My kids are not old enough yet to worry about but in 5 years I am thinking that slap-the-bitch.com might be a sight I would want blocked.
Firewall it out. If you don't know how, consult a professional to do it for you. There is no need to pass stupid laws like this.

I sold the machine to my grandmother when I got my 6400. She passed it on to my little cousin. I have no idea where it ended up.

I had Rhapsody DR1 running on a PowerMac 7300. Now THAT was more like a beta.

I am the son of a murder victim. My mother was an eye witness to it.
Claims of innocence can be relevant in individual cases, but in bulk they fall flat.

I was right. Different competitor, but same end...
Nintendo is the king of handheld gaming. Sony is going to get its ass kicked.

Yes, that was the joke.

I always thought it would have been fantastic to spike the cafeteria food with a powerful laxative and watch the poop-o-rama begin during 6th period.
It would be more satisfying to have 800 people spend the rest of their lives with the knowledge that I forced them to shit their brains out one day.

Your assumption is probably correct, he probably confused "site" with "sight", but if you take another look at what he said...
It's a bit awkward, but not really "wrong". If slap-the-bitch.com isn't your kind of site, there may be sights there that you do not wish to see.

Sorry, my Performa 550 which was relased before the 7100/66 (Codename Sagan) had Sosumi as a sound choice.
And you realize the Apple GUI was a direct ripoff from Xerox, right?
Well, an indirect one at the least.
