although that can be a bad thing (like when you're talking to someone and you realize they're using the bathroom)
Sorry 'bout that. I consider it an efficient use of time. It'll take me 20-30 minutes to poop. If I have a 15 minute telephone conversation while I'm pooping I can kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.
I can finish the whole process in 30 minutes instead of taking 45 minutes to do both things separately.
Anyone else think we're nearing the end of the analog phone system?
In short, hell no.
There are far too many Baby Boomers still out there for that, and they'll probably be with us for another 30 years or so. They simply don't like change "If analog telephones were good enough for me and my parents, they're good enough for my children".
I can honestly say that I can see this technology changing the pricing structure for analog telephony. Either prices will drop, just to compete or they'll charge a premium for the extra work involved with maintaining analog equipment.
Your car will show the temperature steadily increasing and it may well let you get it hot enough to start a fire or seize the engine.
Not exactly. If there is no coolant, the coolant temperature sensor won't be able to accurately measure the temperature of the engine. It's very possible (depending on the type of car, even probable) that your car's gauges will under-report the temperature. If you're not careful, you might not notice the temp problem until after your engine siezes or you crack a piston.
Exactly my thinking when I installed both Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D.
I figure that it's possible that they could be in league together to trick people, but the odds of that are less than the odds of one of them being corrupt.
For spam to work as a marketing tool, there has to be some way for the suckers to reach the sellers, even if there isn't a clikable link or email address. So, launch a law enforcement team down the return path and see who they can dig up.
The problem with that is proving that it's not a Joe-Job, where the companies closes competitor pays a spammer to incriminate them.
Unless you're willing to invent tens of thousands of dollars per investigation, there is no way to tell the difference.
This guy shouldn't have to waste time patching and maintaining an ancient obsolete kernel version for a few lazy people who haven't upgraded their kernels in years.
This will be my last response to you, troll.
He is not doing this because he "has to", he volunteered for the job. He "wants to" do it.
You're probably still running Red Hat 5.2 as well.
Thats kinda why I find it more surprising that people use the older versions of the kernel, considering its not costing you more than a few minutes time to download the latest tarball from your local mirror, and setup a new kernel!
I think that's where you're missing the point.
The way the kernel deals with devices changed a great deal between 2.0.x and 2.2.x and even moreso for 2.4.x, if you've got some custom apps that work just fine on the hardware that you're using, what's the point in upgrading?
No risk of having to debug unforseen problems with running your app in a new environment.
Exactly like that, but folks have short memories, and Democrats can do no evil in the eyes of fellow Democrats.
Like the old saying goes, power corrupts.
For all of 11 months of 1993 and all of 1994, Clinton had a democrat controlled House and Senate. They got to push through anything they wanted.
Now that the shoe is on the other foot, Bush has a Republican controlled House and Senate all the democrats can do is complain about it.
I'm a Republican. I will be voting for Bush in November, not because I think he's perfect. In fact he is flawed in many ways, but I'd prefer him over any of the Democrats who have a chance to win.
Personally, I still use 2K and consider XP a total dog. Circumstances recently having forced me to use it quite a bit, however, I found that it hits the disk constantly.
What are you running? I have XP SP1 on my machine (Athlon XP 1800/512MB) and I only have disk access when I'm doing something. If I launch an App, or compile something big, or load up some pr0n I get lots of disk access, but for more mundane tasks I get almost no disk access.
Maybe you should try disabling some of the unnecessary services.
Does this mean that Macophiles can no longer bemoan the vileness of "Wintel" if M$ is using the same processor in one of their flagship products that Apple does.
Will this also make it easier to port XBox titles to the Mac? Will this make the Mac a more viable gaming platform?
I wasn't aware that you needed to download special software to run this Google search application. Somehow, I don't think Microsoft will find this fight to be as easy.
You might need to download special software to undo Microsoft's fuxory. All they'd have to do is change the default configuration of Windows to redirect any attempt to use a competing search engine. Windows XP's next service pack could sent all requests to google.com to search.msn.com, it would be very easy for them to do and hard for most mundanes to undo.
I'll believe grey goo when someone shows me an accounting of where the energy is coming from, and where it is going to. Until then, if you believe grey goo, well, I have some perpetual motion machines to sell you.
I don't necessarily believe that grey goo exists today, but the possibility of it within our lifetime is real enough.
For the grey goo to work, you gotta have enough power to tear apart an object, molecule by molecule, and put it back together in a more complex configuration.
The process does not need to be instantaneous. It can be done over time. Don't think of the "big picture" for now. It takes very little energy to power one of the molecule sized bots. It's just a question of time and scale.

It's all about judicious use of time man.

Jon Katz and George Michael may do it, but leave Rob alone.

No we don't. That movie is only three years younger than my mother.
What happened? Did he get to do some steamy XXX scenes with Lassie? Or maybe a three-way with some rich bitch toy poodles?

I think perhaps you overstate the difficulty of determining who the spammer really is, or at least who the spammer really isn't.
If you really wanted to have the spam sent, you'd pay a spammer who'd send out the emails from forged domains.
If you were the victim of a Joe-Job, someone else would pay a spammer to send out the emails from forged domains.
The messages would be identical. Only through a time intensive investigation could we find out which case it is.

hose americans that murdered 100.000s when dropping the first atomic bomb ON A CIVIL TARGET
Those "civil" targets were producing equipment for the Japanese war machine.
those americans that started Vietnam
Let's forget about the French and all of the others who were there before us.
those americans that invaded Iraq because they had evidence of WMD
Don't forget the Brits who came along with us.

This planet has had a million lifetimes for a grey goo to emerge.
The planet had millions of lifetimes for glow in the dark zebra fish to emerge. It took us to create them.

Just because we haven't seen it, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.
