It would be interesting to know how the questions in the survey were phrased. Wording of survey questions can make a huge difference in the reported outcomes.
However, cheating is another thing. I am aware of people presenting facts technically correct, but in deceitful manners which give the impression the background research is well done. However, scrutinze what was actually done, it falls apart. Yet, what can you do about that. If do you call attention to it, you risk becomining a whiner. And, who wants to be that?
What you can do is read publications with a discriminating eye just the same. If the research is bad, don't believe the conclusions.
OK, he's an idiot. Was he giving a speech to the CDC? No. Know to target the right audience. I'm still searching for the "point" he was trying to make targeting THAT group of people in an act that could be considered terrorism under our "new and improved" laws.
Oh, and Bill, let me know how that Lyme disease works out for you, K? Not every damn thing spread by mosquitos is combated by keeping current on your shots. Moron.
Ok, I'll bite...
No need to speak to the CDC about malaria, I assure you they are already thoroughly keeping track of it (along with most other diseases, that is their job you know)
The prevention of malaria in third world countries is as simple as putting nets over the beds at night, no special knowledge or expertise required, so the proper target is those with the money to help buy the nets.
And just to correct your medical ignorance, Lyme disease is spread by ticks, (though you are correct in that it is not treatable by vaccine), not mosquitoes. Malaria is spread by mosquitoes, but there is currently no injectable vaccine for the prevention of malaria.
It would appear that you should do a bit of thought and fact checking before calling Bill Gates the moron in the room.
Do these people have any less right to get support from their representatives? There's a reason the vote took place. People talked to their reps.
It makes one wonder that if people understood enough that something was going on to talk to their reps, yet weren't able to figure out that they just need a box or cable (not exactly rocket science) are is the extra few months really going to be long enough for them to figure out what to do?
How is this any different than any of the other phones out there that are available exclusively through one provider or another? (Samsung Instinct etc)
While I'd love to see the cell phone company walls come down, I don't think Apple is doing anything different than everyone else in this case.
2008 is going to be the coolest year of the 21st century so far. A combination of an el nina and low sunspot activity. But it's still on target to be one of the warmest years on record. It ought to have been one of the coldest years on record.
Tim.
That makes the assumption that the heat here on earth magically resets itself every year. The earth stores thermal energy, that's why everyone is worried about an out of control greenhouse effect. So even though the heat input this year might be one of the lowest ever, residual heat from previous warm years will still keep the temperature up.
This pill, steroids, or just plain working out cause muscles to get bigger and stronger by enlarging and strengthening the cells that are already present. Muscles don't grow because your adding new cells. In the case of a heart attack, the damaged tissue consists of cells that died due to lack of oxygen. Since the drug can't make new cells, it can't undo the damage caused by an MI. Worse, if the pill is active in heart as well as skeletal muscle, it could accelerate the hypertrophy that is likely to occur post infarct and cause the onset of ischimic heart failure.
You make a valid point for patients who are already in the MCU, but your thinking is a bit shortsighted. If this drug works as advertised, it truly IS a godsend; not to those who have deteriorated to a state requiring constant care, but rather those patients who are diagnosed in the early stages of the disease. In this population, the drug could prevent them from ever progressing to the point that hospitalization is necessary.
This is a myth that's been going around for quite some time. A more heavily muscled person doesn't burn any more calories at rest. The person can burn more calories while exercising due to the ability to lift/carry/etc against more resistance, thus using more energy, but there's absolutely no basis for claiming that a well muscled person burns more calories when sitting on the couch.
I don't know where your info came from, but your BMR is most definitely impacted by the amount of lean muscle mass. Cells require energy to maintain, even when you're just sitting on the couch. The bigger the cell, the more energy required. It's basic physiology.
Quotas are never a good idea. They spawn resentment from those being left out and imply that those in need of a quota wouldn't be good enough to get in without it. Equality is giving everyone a fair and equal opportunity.
Besides, this does nothing to fix the fundamental problem: there are fewer women because they are less interested. If the government wants to start a program to get more women into science and engineering fields, it should be aimed at young kids. Get elementary, middle and high school girls excited about going into these fields and the numbers will grow.
Its unfortunate that this data is stored in the first place, and that the judge ordered the info turned over. At least this provides some semblance of privacy for users. It was ridiculous to demand the user names and IP address of everyone. Anonymous data is perfectly valid for their claim.
Of course, if Google would stop logging every piece of data they ever receive, this wouldn't be a problem to begin with.
Don't just TELL users that Windows is preloading programs in memory. Who cares is some users are mistaking this for the OS using resources? Unless there is an easy way to turn it off, it effectively IS the OS using resources. Give users an easy way to manage which programs use this feature, or to turn it off entirely. That would allow users with systems more than a year or two old to actually run the OS smoothly, while letting those with more powerful systems take advantage if they so choose.
This is in itself a test:
If you provide them code from your previous job, you fail because you are not to be trusted.
If you fail to provide them code from your previous job then they can't steal your former employer's secrets, thus you fail.
Good luck solving the puzzle.
I think the significance is not simply the presence of the water, but rather the fact that it came from within the core. Glacier water on the surface could have been collected from impacts with other objects, but in theory, water from the core would have been present at tech time the moon formed.
This idea is great! There is lots of land and lots of wind: Perfect! Why does it seem like we're forgetting something... Oh yeah! Wind Corridor=Tornado Alley. Back to ye olde drawing board.
The issue is not so much that they want the viewing logs to prove their argument. Anyone sufficiently motivated could study that since YouTube posts the number of views for each video on the site. The bigger issue is acquiring the names and IP addresses for everyone along with the view numbers. I fail to see how having that information is relevant to their case.
Rather than searching for jobs that match your DEGREE, look for jobs that match your SKILLS.In the real world, most jobs don't require a specific degree, but rather a skill set needed to perform job functions. Perhaps it would be useful to take a look at the skills you've picked up over the last few years as you've progressed through your curriculum and outside jobs. Then do some thinking about what fields need these types of skills. If you broaden your horizons, you will find that there are many jobs that you are qualified to perform that are not directly related to "Computer Science".
Personally, I don't care much about folks knowing my routine. Wow, I go to work, come home, go shopping, go for a walk, and head off to the same few places every weekend. If data for a better mass-transit system or better roads was to result, that'd be great. Sure you don't care, until the people who gain access to the information aren't just advertisers and police, but rather thieves out to make a buck at your expense.

Pandora on my iPhone works just fine on EDGE, though a little slow to load the first song when switching stations.

It is in plain English in the full article. Its the old school snake game.
