As others have noted, pitfall was not a paddle-based game. how do I know? I had a 2600 and Pitfall and I played it with the analog joystick. Kids today, they all think retro is so cool. While I liked playing Pitfall (played both I and II again in Pitfall Harry for the XBOX - secret games that had to be unlocked), I enjoy some of the newer games, including Doom 3, World of Warcraft, and GTA:SA. Games are supposed to be fun that kill a little time, not things you over obsess about.
No, they're sure to ignore them that much faster. If you're faced with thousands of e-mails all seemingly complaining about the same things, knowing that it took little effort to write them, would read them?
ummm, that would be all of them. I'm all for cleaning house but I'm guessing the extremes needed are not going to happen, especially since we'd have to rewrite the U.S. Constitution to eliminate the political whoring that has been corrupting our system for decades.
The Atari 2600 was originalyl marketed this way. They tried to appeal to the sense of family gathering around the TV to play Pong or whatever. All their early ads had photos of families in them to reinforce this idea. In reality though, kids who spent much of their time in arcades were the lion's share of the market for the 2600 and that's why consoles have been developed and marketed towards this crowd for the most part.
Innovative? Macromedia has barely changed the interface from its days as FutureSplash Animator. If I want to animate transparency and position, LiveMotion kicks Flash all over the place and then some. If you've ever used AfterEffects or damn near any other any other animation program such as Combustion you'll notice that you can keyframe each property seperately. In Flash once you set the keyframe it sets all property values at their current levels. The work arounds in Flash, such as nesed movie clips, get very cumbersome and tedious. Care to enlighten me to the "very good reasons for Flash not going down the seperate animation curve/property approach"? LiveMotion can and will improve Flash, mark my words.
It's difficult to get a copy these days but if you can you won't be disappointed. Adobe buying Macromedia is, IMHO, one of the best things that could have happened to Macromedia and their software. Flash will improve by the merging of LiveMotion. LM is like AfterEffects for.swf files and is a much better tool for animators because it animates property attributes seperate from one another where as Flash animates object properties all at once when you set a keyframe.
You can't copyright a word, but then again, much of copyright law seems to elude your typical slashdot reader. Also, last I checked, copyright has nothing to do with government censorship of facts and information.
". When Microsoft decides that it's time for you to buy the latest version of their OS, you have NO FUCKING CHOICE. That's not dependability."
I am so sick and fucking tired of hearing this argument all the while the same jackasses claim that everybody is still using Office 97. Which is it? Is everybody being forced to upgrade and everyone who claims they're still using Office 97 is full of shit or are people still using Office 97 and you;re full of shit for claimng that Microsoft is forcing you to upgrade? Just because Microsoft stops officially supporting a product does not mean everyone has to run out and get the latest version. I still run Windows 2000 on one of my computers despite Windows XP being available. I have Outlook 2003 running side by side with Office 2000. I guess this answers teh question for you, huh. You're full of shit because I can still use older MS products.
Not onlt that but let me cue you in on something, NOT EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE A FUCKING COMPUTER PROGRAMMER!!! Do you undertstand that dickhead? I don't give one rat's ass if I can see the source code or not, the value to me is in the software's ability to function how I need it to, period, end of story. As a graphic and motion graphics/ multimedia designer Open Source software doesn't even enter the radar for me as there are no apps that come close to providing me with the ability to get my work done the way Adobe and Macromedia apps do (amongst others - I still use some Sonic Foundry apps for audio work until I get the hang of Audition). I'm too fuckign busy being creative to spend time mucking around with the code for GIMP or whatever else OSS app supposedly replicates the functionality of the tools I use.
I really hate fuckits like you because you make it so difficult to be a Democrat. Clinton was impeached for lying to a grand jury NOT FOR GETTING A BLOWJOB IN THE OVAL OFFICE!! Al Gore lost the election it was not handed to Bush by the Supreme Court (did I like it? not really but that's the way thigns are, nto everything goes the way you want them to). Enough with the bullshit sore loser crap. There are far more imoiprtant problems facing the world, we do not need uneducated fuckwits like you dredging up old tired crap over and over and over and over and over and opver and over and over... You make the rest of us look bad when you do.
I'm guessing you built your own box because Dell's and the like don't have this issue. Most users aren't going to be building their own boxes the experience they will have will more closely match tht of purchasing a box from Dell. It's also possible to obtain Windows XP with SP2 already prepared to install which makes the box, on reboot, fresh and stable too.
Not exacly. This guy crossed international boundaries when he hacked into U.S. Government property, thus he is subject to U.S. law. If he were to poke around on systems in the U.K. that contained the exact same information then perhaps your reasoning would be more appropriate.
In all my years as a Windows user I've never seen a corrupt font file, much less one that can bring the entire system to its knees, wreaking havoc with everything in its path including networking, appearance theme, and the ability to run applications (OSX refused to run the Adobe Creative Suite, insisting I had to reinstall it). The only good that came from my sytem meltdown due to a corrupt font was that work upgraded me from OSX.3 to OSX.4. Let's see what else bugs em about Macs. Oh, yeah, the frigging home and end keys work sporadially and unpredictably and synchronizing folders in two locations is virtually impossible in OSX because of the fact that it simply wipes folders (even nested ones) with similar names before copying the folders from the source location to the destination. Windows and Linux both merge the contents of each folder, leaving unique file names alone. How about uninstalling applications? Apple wants you to believe installign and uninstalling app sis as simple as dragging and dropping when inreaality many apps install preferences and folders all over the place and you have to manually remove these flles (I discoveres this hidden gem when uninstalling the Adobe Creative Suite - see above). I don't hate Macs and I'mnot smitten with Windows but I am not crazy about the way Macs force you to do things in a particular way and if you deviate too far from this path things become difficult if not imposible.
It's not like opening a restaurant near McDonald's, it's like opening a restaurant near McDonald's and naming it MacDonald's and hoping people won't know the difference.
The problem is the courts are assuming that the mere presence of Windows Media Player being included with the OS is harming the market for media players without looking at the evidence. Real and Apple have both done, IMHO, irreparable harm to themselves without the aid of Microsoft. Real included all sorts of questionable "extras" and spy ware with their player as well as not bothering to improve the codec's they used, assuming their brand recognition would be enough. Guess what? Make a crappy product and your brand recognition will turn around and bite you in the ass.
Apple releases a poor port of their QuickTime player for Windows and assumes that's enough. Their goal is to keep users frustrated enough to jump ship and switch to OS X so QuickTime "simply works better". Guess what? Switching platforms is not an easy proposition if you have a lot of investments in Windows software, even cross-platform apps like Photoshop or Flash.
Where's the abuse from Microsoft? Have they made these players perform poorly on Windows? Have they made it difficult to install these apps? Does Windows Media Player hijack file formats without asking the user first? The answer to all of these is no. Microsoft's media player meet the needs of media distributors and this is why it's used widely on the internet, not because it's installed with Windows (you can actually uninstall it by the way, it's not linked to the OS in the same way IE is).
The biggest problem I have with the EU process is the secrecy allowed by the courts. Fair trials should, check that, MUST, be transparent and open. Far too many slashbots are willing to allow this as long as it destroys Microsoft and that's frightening.
This is no different than any other cop going undercover to bust a car theft ring or the mob. As long as they do not encourage others to act in a criminal manner or partake in criminal behavior themselves then I see nothing wring with this.
You do realize that gas is taxed and gas guzzelers will pay more simply because they refill more often, right? In the case of SUVs and trucks they will pay even more because they typically have larger tanks. Adding a tax on top of this is simply the knee jerk reaction of a stupid jackass thaty clearly can't think for themselves and parrots the argument that SUVs are destroying the environment without even researching he argument themselves. There are plenty of non-SUVs that guzzle gas yet you don't see the anti-sports car arguments do you? Removing SUVs from the road will not solve our oil dependency problems nor make much of a difference in the environmental impact they have. But if it helps ou sleep at night to stereo type and use broad brush straw man arguments because you don;t want to think for yourself, by all menas go rght ahead, you only make yourself look like a fool.
The problem with your number 1 is that Apple doesn't know who's leaking the info, hence the lawsuits to determine the sources. The problem with number 2 is that Apple isn't telling the media anything prior to the planned announcements of their products. The problem with your number 3 is that it's up to sanctioned people at Apple to determine this, not the public, not these websites, not employees at Apple.
Patents protect unique ideas, copyright protect the unique expression of an idea. Thus software can be protected by both but for different reasons. Photoshop has some unique software algortithms which perform image processing tasks. These are protected by patents because copyright doesn't protect ideas. Photoshop as a whole is granted copyright protecion because of its status as an expression of an idea but patents would not protect the software from being copied and distributed by unautoized parties. The two are not mutually exclusive entities and protect their own protions of software in ways thei either alone couldn't.
Someone will simply offer funding-free versions of the podcasts on the internet and poeple will flock to these versions. For these people, ANY advertising is far too much.
Civil disobedience is a two way street. You must be willingto sacrifice your freedom to bring awareness to the law which you are protesting. If you are unwilling to go to jail then you are not being civilly disobedient, you are simply breaking the law.

That would be 2000 years and 2 days late. It was 6/6/06.
Hey, jackass, you get what you pay for. Don't lke the FREE service then pony up and pay for the music instead.
