  1. Next Generation??? on Next Generation Mail Clients Reviewed · · Score: 1

...and they tested Outlook XP when Outlook 2003 is already out and sp1 for the suite is expected by May? This isn't a comparison of the next generation of e-mail clients, it's a comparison of current e-mail clients and even that claim is suspect.

  2. Re:Not the only person against Grand Theft Auto on Twenty-five Years at the Heart of Gaming · · Score: 1

I disagree. I grew up with an Atari 2600. I also had the 5200 and an original NES system. I played River Raid, Adventure, Pitfall, Defender, Pong, hell just about any game the made for the 2600 and loved them. I now have an XBOX and bought GTA3 Double Pack more in protest than anything else to those who would remove these games from the shelves simply because they do not like or agree with the content. GTA3 was great, I had a blast. GTA3: Vice City was even better in many ways. If you think it's senseless depravity then you missed the point. These games poke fun at pop culture, nothing more, nothing less. When you're willing to censor Scarface, The Godfather or The Sopranos then we'll let you get away with pulling GTA3 from the shelves. Until then, shut up and don't play these games.

I just discovered a great RSS news reader that integrates seamlessly with Outlook 2000 and newer called NewsGator. You can add feeds from NNTP as well but the nicest feature is the ability to right-click on an RSS link and select subscribe to. You can set NewsGator to check feeds at a set interval and if anything new is found it will notify you with an icon and balloon tooltip in the tray area. It's $29 but it's a nicely polished, well designed RSS news reader. The only problem I found, and this is an Outlook problem I believe, is I couldn't set the NewsGator folder home page to be the first thing I see when I open Outlook.

How the fcuk is this insightful? Do yo know what Fair Use is? Apprently not or you would know this was clearly NOT fair use. This was commercial use of intellectual property plain and simple. Apple needed to secure a license with the publishing company (this is a re-recording of the song not playing the original sound recording afte rall) to use the words in such a manner. Commercial use of intellectual property does not allow for excerpts or derivatives, period. In fact, there is no fair use provisions for commercial use of intellectual property at all. It's for this reason alone that Copyright Law MUST remain intact or commercial interests will use any damn thing they want without regrad for the artists feeelings or opinions.

Look, you didn't even have to read the article to dispute this one. You merely had to read the summary which states,

Powerhouse software vendor Microsoft and the venerable Sendmail, have formed an alliance to launch a sender authentication plug-in...

Looks like it will be difficult to force Sendmail users to upgrade to Exchange when they will be implementing the exact same technology and in fact developing the technology alongside Microsoft. There is no conspiracy here, move along.

Perhaps you should eductae yourself first. If the work is turned over to the public domain than Stallman's license no logner applies as it is now a part of the pool of works that anyone can use without restraint. The GPL places restraints on how the work may be used, regardless of who benefits by this restraint. The Creative Commons was created to fill in this obvious gap but the GPL does nothing of the sort anyway. Ironically the GPL requires copyright law to exist for without it these restraints cannot be enforced as there is no legal basis to do so.

Ozzy is still wailing away to this date, KISS is still jumping round on stage with make-up on and D&D has grown way beyond the pamphlets I sarted with. I'm sure my copy of Grand Theft Auto: Double Pack (XBOX) will seem tame by comparison to the level of reality obtained in video games 10 years from now. The only thing to do is just ride the wave and let the "grown-ups" fight it out.

"Does that percetage account for people who tried to download a song but got a RIAA-hijacked song instead?"

Stupidity is not a good legal defense. Intent will kill you on this argument most of the time.

Banks make money off loans. I pay back the loan 100% plus interest. Should we now reconsider how banks work too? RIAA member companies work in a similar fashion. They realize a group or artist might have some talent so they roll the dice and front them some money in the expectation that they will get that investment back and then some. More often then not the gamble is a big bust and they lose money, only to make it up on the very few that actually take off and make millions.

They're butt ugly. Of course this is my own subjective opinion and not insightful at all, perhaps interesting at best.

The only copyright violation would be by the developers of KazaaLite, not the RIAA and at best there is only a license violation here. Interestingly enough, if the RIAA loses this would strengthen the use of EULAs to protect software. But no, license violations are not necessarily copyright violations and in this case specifically.
