By admitting any wrong doing people can open themselves up to enormous lawsuits, that's whay many times teh injured parties or those seeking redress often have to seek the truth on their own with little to no assistance on the accused. Look at Enron and Andersen for a godo example of this.

The Enron and Andersen officials aren't being unhelpful because they want to be a pain in the ass, they are being inhelpful because they risk jailtime and possibly enormous fines. By not admitting to anything the jobis that much tougher to bring civil and/or criminal charges against them.

Like it or not, it's unconstitutional to force people to incriminate themselves.

I'm not sure how software code works but as a graphic designer I most certainly own the copyright to my work unless otherwise stated in the contract. Contract does not mean work for hire. If it did then the company would be responsible for paying me benefits as top of my fee.

If I design a logo for a company I state up front in the contract what they can do with the logo. For instance if they were going to just use the logo on a web site I would charge accordingly. However, if this logo is to become the company's entire identity system I charge a dfferent, more lucrative (for me) fee. I can't turn around and sell this logo to another company but as I own the copyrights to the logo, I can include it in my portfolio without the company's approval.

We can't pick and choose which abstractions we like or not, at least not on a personal level, we must decide on a much larger level hence our government being structured as a republic with democratic ideas at its base instead of a democracy where everyone has their individual say.

What you are asking is like suggesting we just drop our fight or flight responses or for women to ignore their nurturing instincts. Why not just ask mankind to quit evolving while you're at it? Eventually science will catch up but until it does mankind will rely on religion, the supernatural and their fear and mistrust of the unknown. I'm hoping this will get the scientists motivated to solve things a lot quicker.

Do they build Photoshop using the toolkits available for KDE and force GNOME users to install the proper libraries for the app to run?

Whle there is a font solution in Linux/UNIX, once again, it's not standard across the different Window Managers. KDE places fonts in one place and GNOME in another.

In contrast, Apple has built a standard solution based on UNIX. They have one solution for handling fonts and they even support OpenType (not sure if Linux does this yet).

As for the color management, if Adobe is truly considering releasing a Linux version of Photoshop, I think they will create binaries for handling this. I doubt they will be OpenSource but Linux will have Color Management if they install Photoshop. The rest is up to the OSS community.

And the lack of a viable window manager (X-Windows does NOT count), printing solution, font solution, color management solution, etc. make Linux a WHOLE lot less attractive.

OSX and Linux only have command line utilities and a few concepts in the kernel in common. That's less than 1% of what's needed for application compatibility."

However, Rallisport Challenge was just released and this game competes with GTA3 quite nicely, and in fact has been praised by some game reviewers as being better than GTA3 (though only slightly by some).

It's all personal preference really. I thought Munches Oddeyssee was a great game. I have been playing Halo on and off since I bought the game despite my beating it numerous times. I'm going back and trying the two hardest levels. I'm waiting anxiously for Morrowind to be released as well as Baldur's Gate. Don't forget that Doom 3 will be, to the console market anyway, exclusive to the xbox and there is a good possibility that Quake 4 will be as well. I'm pretty excited about these games myself but I know others who are fans of the console games might not be. Keep in mind that Everquest is going to require the sale of an add-on piece of hardware. The xbox comes with an ethernet port built in so building up a stable of multiplayer online games will be a lot easier for Microsoft.

I wouldn't read too much into these sales figures yet. Everyone knew the xbox was going to be a tough sell and the fact that Microsoft didn't meet high er expectations they set for themselves doesn't spell the end for this console.
