It may not necessarily be less bloat and is less readable but the advantage is that the former will immediately be turned into a JavaScript object whereas the latter must be marshalled into an object using custom JavaScript code.
Lets add a no-sodomy clause to the GPL too. Anyone from the State of Georgia can tell you how enforceable THAT one will be. Protecting human rights is a Good Thing to be sure but do we honestly expect software licenses to be said protectors?
I think it boils down to this; Microsoft hates competitors, AOL hates consumers.
Case in point: When was the last time you heard about Microsoft going after Open Source projects that have the word "win" in their name? However, if you go to SourceForge.net and look up all the projects with the word "aim" in their name you can bet that every one of them will be, if they haven't already been, contacted by AOL Time Warner's attorneys demanding a name change.
Not that Microsoft is blameless where consumers are concerned (Java anyone?).
I agree. Not 5 minutes into the load (install flaked out if I check the Java 2 box) and it crashed.
Plus, I can't save my prefs.
Typical Netscape garbage.
Some people may scream about ethics but I imagine this type of thing happens more than people think. I remember a TV show several years back about a family who did the same thing to save their daughter.
I did manage to get it running however. I discovered that I had to run the binary ([install_dir]/netscape) as root the first time. After that it seems to run fine though it keeps popping up this annoying registration screen. With no 'opt-out' option I might add.
I've also found that after awhile it just locks up on me. Hard. I have to kill it off by hand.
I'm going to stick with the nightly builds myself. Granted they don't have the handy ^R features but at least the alpha level nightly's are more stable than a preview release from Netscape.
Well I tried getting rid of my.mozilla directory and it STILL doesn't run.
I am so sick and tired of the garbage that comes out of Netscape anymore. Oh, but wait, they're the poor victims of Microsoft's tyranny. So just like everybody else in this country, its not Netscapes fault they can't write working code. Its somebody elses fault.
I see this not as an issue of which OS is better but rather an issue of fixing something that isn't broken. Why change from Linux to Solaris when Linux works just fine?
To my mind, instead of spending the dollars to convert these systems from Linux to Solaris they need to invest more in making the web UI easier to use. Granted its one of the simplest around but it still has some evolving before it is ready for the type of customer Cobalt (and the hosting companies) is marketing to.
Even without the restrictions one has to wonder about a government funded entity evaluating the technology of another government entity. Based on this theory why not just have Microsoft Publishing send down a verdict to the Microsoft anti-trust case?
To my mind, what they really object to is the fact that there is a free version of their proprietary software running around out there. Even though its for a platform they don't support they're afraid it will leak on over to a supported platform.
So its about money. They chose a poor business model. Instead of opening the source and thereby having a much, MUCH, larger market share from which to support (for a fee) they chose to ride the ever shrinking Bill wave in hopes that some of his billions might rub off onto them.
The key words here bing "public forum". CmdrTaco in this instance is not the public but the editor and as such should find a more suitable forum for his personal opinion.
If YOU had made the same comment he did then I would have no problem. You and I fall under the category of "public".
I disagree. First,/. is owned not by CmdrTaco but by Andover and VA Linux Systems. Granted he has full editorial control over/. and IMNSHO that is as it should be. He's done an outstanding job to date.
Second,/. is seen by many people as a reliable news source. So much so that I constantly see other so-called news newtworks virtually ripping off/. word for word.
Regardless of what GWB is or is not, kugano is absolutely correct. This is NOT the place for CmdrTaco to be venting his personal political opinions. If the editors of/. want to do that then they should set up an editorial section where it is understood that the content therein is biased and should be taken as such.
CmdrTaco, I find/. to be a wonderful news source but I think you should submit a retraction of your opinions and in the future, post them in a more proper place.
I agree with the legalizing of drugs but I definately don't want the government supplying them. There's not a single thing save defense that the government does remotely well and defense is debatable. I would submit that the goverment supplying a product to the consumer would be about as successful as the government managing the peoples money (see: IRS).
Except that its a complete pain in the ass to install. The installer doesn't work for me, always seems to segfault. What good does it do anybody if you can't install it?

Good luck in getting them to convert to PHP. MS people are notorious for telling you how great PHP is and then forcing you to use ASP.
The only problem I have w/Dotster is that you have to supply a domain name as your primary and secondary nameservers. I'd like to be able to provide both the domain name AND IP address. Beyond that they've been great!
IE is considered to be a superior product to NS Navigator in many circles and its free. I don't think the cost of the product has anything to do with it (i.e. Linux). As far as I'm concerned, Netscape is devoting resources to a outdated product. Why?? Who cares if its unstable. Get Mozilla working completely and Nav 4.x's instabilities will quickly become a non-issue!

A Game of Thrones. Definintely a great Fantasy series.

Is it me or is this link sending back a connection refused for Netscape and Mozilla on Linux?

Same here as far as OS and kernel version.

It might not be that revolutionary but I can confirm from first-hand experience that they do have pretty good bandwidth.

Go read the docs bozo. "My" has nothing to do with ownership.

I think the problem lies more with the website owner who doesn't prepare to be slashdotted.
Looks like they didn't take too kindly to being slashdotted.
