TFA says that it would include information about Australian's and the company appears to be operating in Australia. Thus I imagine even if it is legal in the US, which I doubt they could still be sued in Australia.
As the TFA says they will be collecting info from all Facebook accounts not set to private, I imagine they could face legal problems in many countries.
Many apps are badly written and you can stop them accessing permissions they shouldn't need by editing the url of the permissions request. (nb. some apps use ajax so you can't easily edit the url of the permissions request page, others actually check and redirect you back to the permissions page).
E.g adding the app 'crazy taxi' it requests permission to post on my wall, I can stop it from getting that permission by deleting '&perms=publish_stream' from the url. Going to the new url it is now only asking for permission to access basic information, I press alow and it lets me continue.
you know Facebook doesn't make you set a security question right? Its optional, I however find it ironic how it says a security question makes your account more secure. more access methods == less security
If you RTFA, it says "Full details of the experiments are not yet available" as the paper is linked in TFA I assume he intends to publish another paper about this.
Nvidia don't release drivers under GPL whilst ATI/AMD do, this upsets some of the die hard FOSS fans.
I haven't used the ATI drivers on linux so I can't comment on them, but I have also found that the Nvidia drivers provide the same performance as on windows.
I'd agree were it not for the following http://twitter.com/wikileaks post yesterday: "WARNING all 637,000 @wikileaks followers are a target of US gov subpoena against Twitter, under section 2. B http://is.gd/koZIA" [redirect to PDF of the subpoena hosted on salon.com].
But it's in no way a supplement to a plot. Transformers, 2012, Doom, etc., all proved that flashy visuals can turn a profit, but they can't turn suck into a movie worth watching.
I have to say I disagree with the reviewers, whilst the graphics in the movie where good I didn't think they where that spectacular. The plot however was quite good although it had a slow build up I defiantly wouldn't put it in the same category as Transformers. I haven't seen the original so I don't know whether that would have affected my view of the movie. It defiantly wasn't what I expected from a Disney film.
I've never seen the original as I was to young when it came out, but I quite enjoyed the new one. It was defiantly one of my favourite releases this year. The friends I watched it with also enjoyed it a lot and had similar opinions. Then again I do watch a lot of SciFi.
I also felt that as movies go it was reasonably realistic (apart from programs being able to exit the computer), although not possible with our current level of technology. I disagree with the OP I think people still have a lot of imagination about tech, but they tend not to associate SciFi tech with the real world and real world advances. Also the movie really didn't have much of a focus on the tech involved it was more about coporate greed and idealism. As well as the impossibility of perfection and the standard Disney themes.
In relation to movies released this year it didn't come close to Inception, but it was a lot better then Harry Potter 7 and at least as good as Avatar. Most people I know who have seen it share this opinion.
Thank you. I have been looking for something like that for ages! I hope it turns out to be what it claims to be. (invite only at the moment so can't try it) For people who can't be bothered to google it, their site is here and their blog explains it pretty well: it is a p2p (although they offer cloud services as well. No pricing details for that though) file syncing tool with full 1024bit RSA encryption.
read this (Sydney Morning Herald) his lawyers weren't even shown the evidence against him in English (a requirement of Swedish law). Then the charges where dropped and then reopened by someone more senior a few days latter. In many countries this would be enough for the case to be thrown out.
I'm in Australia and I have seen people using places and there's a whole load of extra 'privacy' settings (off by default) you need to change so that people can't post your location.
The reason Facebook is better then email (for some purposes) is that you can brodcast to a wide range of your friends including people who you wouldn't talk to or email regularly. Facebook is less intimet then email and more social as all comments are contained in a singal copy in a singal location.
As a person who is aware of other systems for broadcasting I have to say that Facebook is the most effective (especialy for stuff like the GP's example) The main reasons for this are that you have access to a wide audience and people don't have to be looking for somthing specific. Just checking whats going on with their friends/family.
Also you presume everyone needs 1 Gbit/s..... that's like presuming everyone needs homes made of gold walls. Nice luxury to have but not really necessary. It's really just a waste.
Yeah, it's like people 'need' TV, they don't but it is something the majority of people have in there homes.
Whilst this is not yet true of 1 Gbit/s internet I predict it will be within the next decade. Due to the now popular idea of HD streaming and other increasingly bandwidth hogging applications being sold to Joe Citizen
It is more like walking around and writing down slogans on peoples t-shirts and accidentally overhearing a bit of peoples conversation whilst you are doing it. I wouldn't call that spying
There have been a number of studies showing that people can build up immunities to their allergies.
I have experienced this personally as I used to have gluten and dairy allergies but over time they disappeared (my allergies weren't very sever though so I had little bits of dairy and gluten every now and then which probably helped).
My sister had a similar experience to your self, she used to be mildly allergic to cats but over time living with them she stopped showing symptoms.

but what's wrong with an email address?
I get requesting a mobile number as an alternate method, but they don't need a security question as well.

Dispora is currently available to the public (though lacking many features) , there's a list of sites running Dispora which includes up time data here

He is not on suicide watch.
Sleep deprivation and solitary confinement are human rights violations.

The linked document has no section 2. B

Luckily in Australia voting for a minor party is not "wasted vote" as you get a second choice and a third, etc.
Your link is broken, where you looking for this: http://www.belowtheline.org.au/?
Someone posted this link higher up the thread, it lets you easily work out a below the line voting order: belowtheline.org.au

Schools (or at least public schools, I'm not sure) in Australia are allowed to perform and photocopy music providing they have an original copy.
