I think the idea was to put a list of pre-approved projects up for vote or to let people submit ideas for approval by a board of some sort. I would hope a city, county, state, etc wouldn't actually let people vote on erecting statues of giant penises. San Francisco is obviously excluded. I was disappointed not seeing any when I visited for the first time.
You'd make a tea out of it if you had any sense and save your jaw and teeth. Two other things that actually work that come to mind are aloe and yellow root plants. Aloe is good for skin issues (burns, herpes, etc) and can be made into a good laxative. Yellow root is a decent antibiotic.
Because Diablo III has no real single player mode. The Diable III version of single player mode is you all alone in an MMO. You can hate their design, but it's not DRM.
I guess I'm in a lucky situation. I work pretty much in an autonomous dev group. We got all the requirements up front, but after that we were left to our own devices. I've been there close to a month and so far the only metric is "you said feature X would be done by Y. Where is it!" and I'm perfectly okay with that metric. The only reason I'm where I'm at now is because of the structure. It's pretty much what the summery describes as being "good", but to me it's always seemed to be "the right way to do things". I don't go around telling you how to do your job so don't come over to my desk and tell me how to do mine or measuring productivity in some bullshit way like LoC counting. If you want to come talk about bugs in the software, video games, or anything else I'll be happy to talk to you though:).
Honestly, what they're doing is freaking hard and it's amazing they've got as far as they have without the project totally falling over dead. Anyone who doesn't understand why "bland ordinary C" isn't the first obvious choice for that project probably isn't someone you'd want working on it anyhow. Kudos to them for one of the best reverse engineering projects alive on the internet today.
To be fair I didn't have as many issues as a lot of people for the same reasons as you, but I still wouldn't describe it as a joy to use. I still had issues and 98SE was all around more reliable.
I'm on Lion now and have had 0 issues with it and I'm not the only one (a lot of people didn't). Trying to compare Lion to windows ME or Vista is a horrible comparison, because both of the OSX releases you mentioned are 100% better than both of the Windows versions you're comparing them to.
No, the use case is still invalid. Executing rm -rf / on a live system will make the system fail, so it should at least require a separate switch to verifythat the user is not making a common mistake.
uh, you realize that the separate check to verify is already there right? You say "HEY RM I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING SO SHUT UP KTHX" by using -f. You can remove directories / files without it, but rm will prompt you.
You're talking about traditional advertising and most online advertising doesn't follow that model. Online advertising is about producing an immediate result and that result is normally a sale, lead, etc. Branding is normally a secondary function.
Not to be rude or offensive, but you failed at it because you didn't know what you were doing. I know several people (for companies not themselves) spending six figures a month with facebook and generating sales numbers larger than that. It's working great for them. If I tried that I would have the same results as you until I learned what I was doing. To do it "right" it requires a custom software and understanding of all the analytics. I've asked them in the past about their budget for testing new ads and products. They will blow a couple grand just getting everything dialed in. Unless you're copying someone verbatim (and that would require hacking them and seeing everything on their back end not just their fb ads) $50 isn't even close enough to begin getting a campaign profitable.
Something else they will do is literally upload hundreds of different ads with different pictures, text, etc. Then they'll choose the ads that have the highest CTR (click through rate). Apparently one of the metrics fb uses for click prices is the CTR. If you're getting a crt of around.1% or higher you'll be getting some great click prices. Which is why they upload so many creativities. They have software that will take images, titles, bodies and generate ads for all the permutations and set very specific demographics for each set (a set would be the total permutations) of ads then upload them to fb. That allows them to see which ads work best for which demographics.
Click fraud is a huge problem though. A lot of ad networks will reimburse you for bot clicks if you can prove they were in fact bots and not real people. A lot of times it will be a small percentage and you eat the cost, because it's not worth the trouble of fighting for it. Think of it as theft if you were running a retail store, because that's essentially what it is. However, at 80% that's just crazy and this company has every right to be upset regardless of the amount they spent. They didn't get what they paid for.
After saying all of that. I'm sure if you had the money to burn you could figure it out and make a nice side income. You would have to treat it like any business though and expect to lose money for a while until you learned the ropes.
Blizzard does exactly that. I'm sure it stops some people from buying them, but based on the prices I saw on that website it seems some people are willing to pay outrageous amounts for some accounts.
If I were going to attempt this I wouldn't be selling used games, but whole accounts. For example you have a steam account with games x,y, and z and a steam account with just game x. I would pay you more for account 1 than account 2. There's already market places setup for things like wow accounts. A quick google search pulled up something called armorybids. Yeah, it's against their ToS, but it's not illegal yet.
If you think everyone looking in your general direction is looking at you then you're the one that's narcissistic and self absorbed. If I want to look at the ceiling or out a window then I can (that's one purpose of a window). If it really bothers you then you can tell me and I'll look at a different window or ceiling tile.
I'd still be running Linux if it was possible to run the games I want to run in it. I got tired of duel booting Windows so I bought a Mac. It's the closet thing I can get to Linux that has native support for the games I want to run. I would even re-buy the games if I had to as long as I could get it to run on Slack (which I could as long as they don't do something stupid).
I'm in no way an Apple fanboy. Apple is just as evil as Microsoft, but at least their OS is decent. I spend most of my time in iTerm anyway so it's not much different for me.
I understand leering is more than looking, but it's up to the person being looked at. I often stare off into space or a window when I'm thinking and I've had people get uncomfortable, because they think I'm staring at them. That could be interpreted as leering when it isn't.
I have a Sharp in my front room and I have to disagree with you on the viewing angles. I have no issues with side viewing.
Montana, what are you some communist trying to hold America back?

That's because he didn't ride them. Dinosaurs aren't real. Their bones were put here to test our faith.

um..
If the sequence is XP, Vista, 7, 8 and XP == 7 then Vista == 8.
I have a feeling I need more hairspray, because something just flew over my head.

You're spreading fud. This is in no way CAN-SPAM compliant.
It's Irish slang that basically means ruined beyond repair. Google isn't to hard to use.

Anonymous Coward raising tomorrows generation of thieves.
That's a nice way to put it.
