    I don't understand this. There is nothing different about what is going on in the US. This treatment, in much worse forms, was already standard for minorities as well as against foreigners during operations abroad.

    They are giving us an opportunity to question the past and the present in terms of the way interracial and international relationships have been carried out thus far, and all we are doing is "OMG OMG How did this happen!". It's sad.

    Used with JabRef as the front end (and Ubuntu One as the cloud storage), Bibtex provides me with a very convenient and non-binary (and OS-independent) way to store interlinked articles, the references to which I can easily plug in if using Latex (and some other software like LibreOffice) for a paper.

    Nah, it's more probable that these were regular papas and mamas with virus-infested / botnetted PCs or open / wep wireless APs. According to BTK's statements, they were gonna go after folk based on their IP addresses.

    TIB actually blocked connections out of Turkey to their website as a precaution against this attack.

    DoS'ing yourself to avoid being attacked... They are experts in security!

    Turkey in 2011 is a true Orwellian 1984 state where people are afraid to discuss politics or religion over the phone or internet, where going into important business meetings you are routinely asked to check your smartphone/mobile phone at the door, where anytime anything crime related happens, police magically get hold of 'detailed Internet records' of the perps immediately.

    I live in Turkey: all of this is outright lies except the last one, which occurs "elsewhere" as well (as in "think of the children").

    It was my jailbait for you all.

    slashdotted it...

    BTK had an announcement about TIB on a Turkish newspaper today, saying that they will get the IP addresses of the attackers and will "possibly punish them" for it (1, in Turkish). I posted the link so we all can have a touristic visit to a Turkish jail.

    PS. Turkish media are now reporting (most probably upon government directives) that the attacks were not successful despite initial reports.

    Green, independent, or whatever. They have no chance of winning exactly because of your own statement: the few people who would vote for them and give them a slight chance at election are not doing it.

    And, if you feel like you are put in a position to vote for different/assholes but same-shit, why vote at all and become complicit in their crimes and corruption? Either don't vote or vote for someone whom you support but whom you otherwise think cannot win.
