I can't understand why, what I like to call, "the grandma scenario" is constantly being brought up here (my grandma can't use Openbox / my grandma can't compile shit in the command line / my grandma can't update her fucking firmware). did the OP imply he is technologically retarded and can't use more than the router equivalent of a fucking toaster? this is Slashdot, not tech-tips-for-fucking-lonely-housewives. try to keep some decency, I mean look at your UID, for FSM's sake man!
(apologies for going somewhat offtopic and using foul language)
You've just put words to something that has been on my mind for years! xD
Any half-decent cable internet provider should be able to determine the signal-to-noise ratios from their consoles. Even if their setup is expecting manual typing through a terminal, it's all of one minute's work... (Cisco example: telnet to the local CMTS, $ show cable modem | i [modem MAC]). Your ISP seems to blow.
And, this is the crux of the commercial connections, SLAs that ensures a proper uptime. At one point, I've had 3 different providers (FTTB, ADSL and HSDPA) because that was a cheaper way to ensure uptime than throwing money after a single G.SHDSL (which also usually comes with a 12-month contract, vs. 6 month contract on the others).
In Denmark, there's a similar situation-that is, any ISP can a DSL connection over the copper owned by a former state-monopoly. The thing is, the ISPs make next to nothing on the leased lines. I'd bet that if you just call them once per month (question about a bill, complaint about speed or packet loss, other errors), those subscribers are producing red numbers. Of course, I don't know if the market is similar in Finland.
Disclaimer: I have worked for one of the largest Danish ISPs, specifically with DSL.
I heart my 20mbit connection. Not only because it's fiber and cheap as free, but also because it's a symmetric line. The only time I run into latency or bandwidth issues is if I try to remote to a laptop on wifi.
I love David Allen's GTD, and I've a few productivity RSS feeds that I follow; David Allen Co.'s official RSS feed has a lot of interesting GTD-centric tips. 43Folders is Merlin Mann's productivity feed with a little more unrelated noise. Lifehacker has a lot of productivity tips, but again, more noise. On the other hand, Lifehacker is also a lot more down to earth. Get Rich Slowly isn't directly productivity--related, but it's a good reminder to mind your finances.

Argh! Sorry, wasn't supposed to be Troll. Godsdamnit, this should reverse it.
As a sidenote, I had to disable Discussion2 to get around this note:

That snippet really sums up the quality of the linked article. In both the linked pages from the Wired article, it is explained in the first paragraph that, yes, this is inspired by Luke's prosthetic hand. All Things Digital article, Gizmodo article.
There are two scripts to filter out Roland (though I've only had one of them work)â"you could just modify it to also look for the name of the posting editor?
And before 9/11 every bad person was compared to Hitler. Even if they didn't kill nearly as many Jews as he did. Godsdamnit, I'M WORKING AS FAST AS I CAN!
It's the connection count.
Also, how does restarting it after changing configs make it less hackable?

I'm one of the lucky souls who never found much fun in nethack.
Your original post still exists. Slashdots comments system is acting up.

I'm ready to send wave after wave of my own men at them.

Also, we made this cake. For you. Please, don't ask about the teeth marks.
Only if it's hazelnut-roasted coffee beans. Nom nom nom.

Simple check list:
- Does the phone use a standard type of wireless signal that your carrier supports (e.g. GSM900)?
- Can you find instructions on how to set up GPRS on Cingular?
- Do you want to pay the full, unsubsidized fee for the phone?
If you can answer yes to all three of the above, you've got a winner. You forgot to add the tilde.
I assume you then continued seeding? :)
If you'd bothered to RTFA or watch the VIDEO, you'd known this was a Mac too. Plus, they have a DIY-kit that you can buy.
Apart from that, the kid does give some instructions, but not nearly detailed enough for them to be useful, at least for me. This kit is totally FTW.
In two weeks, I transfer to the NOC, after 6 months in the HD. Admittedly, I'm getting a bit old for the HD anyway (26).
Actually, their marketing is pretty shitty - otherwise you (and most anyone with a pulse) wouldn't notice that they have a crap product.
They don't mind that you notice that after forking over the cashShhhh! Don't tip them off! Otherwise I'll have to start eating meat to avoid suspicion!
Apart from that, some PETA (and similar) raids have been depicted as terrorism...
