So your point, insofar as one exists in that jumbled mess of arbitrary thoughts, is that because he has a secret drug addiction (to which you are privy) it is all right for the state to have him executed?
I mean, yes of course you're trolling, yes of course you're attempting humour, but truly, that is the best you can produce even when shielded by anonymity and a computer screen? Really? Incredible.
It is more accurate to say that an iPhone 3GS MUST upgrade to the latest version of iOS to maintain full iTunes functionality and in the process begins to run significantly slower. This is a forced upgrade which reduces the user experience which brings a lot of customers into carriers saying "my phones old and runs like shit I need a new iPhone please." Hardly the picture of rosey perfection.
As for Android, I haven't ran stock firmware on mine for ages. I'm already running the Cyanogenmod ICS build on my phone and it runs great. For the average customer who doesn't give a crap, stock firmware and OTA updates are fine. For those who want stronger/better/faster, Android allows for insane amounts of homebrew builds to chose from.
As for the user experience, much of Android remains the same between hardware providers. Sure the Sony themed Android looks different than the Motorolo themed Android but at the end of the day a user can make a seamless transition across and between several manufacturers and in the end isn't tied into one brand and one phone. The users Android market purchases stay with them and can be installed again on the new phone. The Android ecosystem severely reduces the necessity of being bound to a single hardware manufacturer which is always better for the customer. Give it a few more years and no customer would willing go back to the days of yore. In fact, this is precisely why Blackberry, Microsoft and Apple have taken the battle to the courts instead of leaving it to the marketplace and allowing customers to dictate the future of mobile. Android = good for customers, both geeky and non.
If you're going to do something as audacious as change the calendar that most of the world has adopted, and claim your system does away with all the hassle and uncertainty of the current system, you should come up with something that doesn't require the following small print "The following extra week will be added at the end of December, every 5 or 6 years". Seriously, if you're going to become hyper-rational about the year, just redefine everything - days, months, years, hours, minutes, seconds, etc. Do the math to make everything fit into nice and neat blocks of 10. Otherwise, stfu and keep the broken system which is broken due to backwards compatibility.
Unfortunately, I can't provide a 50 point rebuttal, but again, your arguments are broken. Taking a physical product away by force may constitute assault, but this was a refusal of service not a confiscation of a product. Google simply stopped providing the service in order to comply with the law. It's more akin to a waiter refusing to sell you alcohol (in this case, the waiter is providing a service not the product, the business the waiter is employed by is providing the product) because you can't produce ID. You can scream bloody murder and demand he give you more notice, but the waiter is simply adhering to the law (which makes it illegal for him to serve a minor). RE Google, it is a free product that you have not paid for. Furthermore, you can create a new account on a multitude of other sites or even on Google itself. I fail to see sufficient criterion for getting proverbial panties in a proverbial bunch.
Your hot dog analogy is completely broken. It's more like I'm walking down the street, I see a sign that says "free hot dogs, but only for people over 12 - but don't worry, all you have to do is say you're over 12, no id necessary". Then I ask for a hot dog, the vendor gives me one, and I say "by the way, I'm 11", so the vendor takes it away. Then I start huffing and puffing and pack my bags and move out of the neighbourhood.
Furthermore, if a cat prancing on a keyboard managed to log into the persons Google account, navigate to account settings, select profile information, and enter a faulty dob, then you can't blame Google's automated system for not building in that contingency.
Finally, you seem to be expecting Miranda rights from a free-to-use email service. Why should they hire an army of judges to babysit people's prepubescent children's Google accounts? For fucks sake, the man made his daughter another one. What is wrong with you people?
If this experience was so traumatic for your daughter, her life is probably far too sheltered and you spoil her. Only child?
Your tone is shrill and over the top. You make it sound like a Gaggle of Googlers attacked your daughter on the school yard and made fun of her for a year straight, thereby nearly driving her to suicide. Seriously, it's not that big a deal, create a new account, or create an account somewhere else. Maybe take the opportunity to explain to your daughter that sometimes we can't get everything we want.
As for your subsequent backup of your Gmail account... I'd love to hear the logical leap from "Google disabled an account which violates their TOS" to "OMG Google will delete my account". Sounds like your problems have less to do with Google, and more to do with you.
Sorry, but Muslims don't have a monopoly on Batshit Crazy, plenty of that in the Christianity and other religions too. In fact, plenty of that in secular circles. Language is important, once we start equating words like "terrorist" with "Muslim", we're all one step stupider. If George Dubya Bush was smart enough to avoid making that jump, I have faith that you can be too.
What's sad is that some are so thoroughly indoctrinated by the religion of the capitalist world system that they cannot fathom a world in which musicians don't need to be millionaires. Nobody does. People sang before copyright laws and they lived happy, culturally enriched lives. Artists aren't served by the current system, in fact, artistic merit is borderline irrelevant in the modern music industry. By and large, the vast majority of musicians are images constructed by marketing machines and not really artists at all. Besides that, the bulk of the money generated goes to everyone in the middle, including the massive media conglomerate. Wake up.
Update: It’s come to our attention that the hot fix update we pushed out last night on Android Market (7.0.1) did not fix the issue. It has now been resolved and is live on the Android Market as Dolphin Browser HD v7.0.2. Again, user privacy is a huge priority for us and we thank you for your patience while this has been resolved.
There's a lot of choice when it comes to Android browsers. I've switched to something else... since they are either incompetent or full of shit.
All it takes to go to the moon is a government who's willing to fund the project, some custom software, a national space program and communication. Hell if you build a big enough antenna array you can even send a rover to Mars.
Obviously the motivation behind it is greed, but the vehicle by which it is so widely perpetuated is capitalism.
Capitalism is the the rational accumulation of money for the sole purpose of investing it to make more money. It's a cycle, there's no end to it, there's no "enough" - profitable companies don't often just abandon their business because they made all the profit that they wanted to. Every single quarter, every single year, the financial goal of almost every major corporation is to make more money than the last. Even the most successful tech and oil companies still want to make more. This is greed, to be sure, but it's systemic, organized, rational, highly efficient greed.
Explain to me the capabilities and limitations of 3d printers, relevant patent holders, and why these stories aren't front-page news? As far as I can tell, 3d-printing technology completely revolutionizes manufacturing, no?
S/he didn't say anything about stopping the development of a cure. S/he simply pointed out that it was not likely something that "the masses" would immediately be able to afford.
Apple don't "need" to do anything. In fact, they should continue doing exactly what they're doing, considering they are one of the most valuable corporations in the history of money. What "needs" to happen is for people to get their heads out of their asses and stop overpaying for Apple innovation.
Actually, I find the parent's list of questions highly relevant. The most common ways I've destroyed data-mediums are (1) dropping and shattering them (2) scratching them (3) leaving them in car/office/attic without realizing and (4) accidentally getting them wet. Wanting a potential backup medium to be withstand the most commons forms of accidental damage is not idiot-proofing.
I really don't care if this product can withstand the heat of a thousand angry suns; however, if it proves more resilient in my real world usage, then there's a story here.
Anyone who has taken a high school English class will know that when work (such as reading a chapter of a book) is set to be done at home so that discussion can be done in class, many people won't do the work. This is problematic because much of the lesson is then either lost on those who didn't do the work or wasted on catching them up. In particular, this really sucks when good students are stuck doing group work with students who haven't watched the lectures. This was true in English 10 class and it will likely be true in any alternate curriculum. What's more, actually asking people to do something at home, even if it is watching a video, is the definition of homework.
The problem with education in the west is not really instructional, it's cultural. It's not cool to be smart in North America. It's cool to be a jock or a cheerleader, an emo or a hommie, a skater or a thug. While this might seem like an immutable reality of young age, that is not the case. Young children are being so inundated with branding and advertising, and every sub-culture is so heavily commercialized and catered to, that kids get their cultural values from corporations and mass media than from family and community. This wouldn't be so bad if the interests of the corporations and their media arms weren't so different than those of parents. I've been to school in several Asian and Middle Eastern countries where the smart guys were seen as cool and got the girls. Once smart == getting laid, everything else will sort itself out - that is an immutable reality of young age.
All right, I'm glad we're making progress here. So to recap: 1) You've conceded that Android offers customization and flexibility that iOS does not (specifically in the realm of home screens and widgets) 2) You've conceded that you had no idea what Titanium Backup was or what it did, but have finally now checked it out despite making arguments in regards to the apps features 3) You're now saying that the whole issue is about rooting, and your parents who can figure out how to download and install iTunes on their computer can't figure out how to download and install "1 click root".
No problem, I'll play along. Solution: Android app "Backup Everything", no root required.
I'm not blind, it's also been repeatedly said that Titanium Backup, which is free, will restore application data. So when I move to a new device, I don't need to have a PC to sync to, using my Google account and my Titanium Backups (either on SD card or Dropbox), I can restore every single application and all my data.
If you have an android phone and use ADW, then you know it is free. There is a paid version, but you don't need to use the paid version. Also, can I point out the absurdity of complaining about the backup methods of home screens and widgets when the iphone does not even have home screens or widgets? All the iphone has is a list of apps, and as the parent stated, all apps can be restored through the android market, without the use of any third-party software or the use of desktop software (as iphones would require).
What's awesome is if you use ADW Launcher, you can make a backup of your window configuration, your widgets, your backgrounds and all other such preferences, and simply restore them on your new device. Also, you can use Titanium Backup to do a full backup of all your applications and (more importantly) your application settings. That means that if you're on level 100 of Stupid Zombies, you can start on level 100 on your new device.
Or maybe they're giving up too easily? In the movies the first two guesses are always wrong. The trick is to persevere, sigh deeply, lean back, facepalm.... and then brighten up with an "AHA - OF COURSE!" expression and type in the right password. If the government hackers need clues, they could also look around the desk or office, there is usually something that gives the password away.
Really? Incredible.
