Why do so many people think this is true? Even though that's what it may look like from your browser, that's not how it works. The way it's implemented, your browser negotiates the SSL session and then submits a "GET secret.cgi?this=password;that=por" request. The realy problem with using sensitive data in "GET" requests is referrer attacks. If the resultant page has a link to an external site, and you click it, your full request string "...blah.com/secred.cgi?this=password..." will be available to that external site and will go over in the clear to that site (assuming it isn't over TLS).
Understandable. The whitespace thing really turned me off when I saw it. I used to love perl - the only thing that convinced me to try python was perl's inability to run in the JVM. All I can say is, try python. Try writing a tiny (but non-trivial) app in it (using a decent editor, of course). You may still hate the whitespace thing, but I wouldn't be surprised if you discovered that it's really not a big deal. That's what I found, anyway.
Are you being sarcastic? What reason was there on Day One (I assume you mean before the leak about his wife) to assme he was a fraud? Just curious -- the whole thing has really puzzled me after the Senate Intelligence Report came out.
This legislation is WAY TOO VAGUE to get through..
So you've seen the legislation? Would you mind providing a link? I read the article, which did include a vague description, but it didn't have the legislation. I would be interested in how that defined custom software.
So your zip code's a little different than the average. That doesn't mean the technique isn't used. I would expect that they would take the standard deviation for that zip code into account, and for yours it would obviously be very high.
I don't think that word means what you think it means. Either that, or somehow, the unholy union of Apple and jocks reminds you of how much you want the church and state to be one and the same.
Of course, a $50000 engineer would be pretty hard to find in the US. Even if their salary is only a (low) $30,000, you have the costs of health care, administrative overhead, office equipment, etc., etc. Salary != employee's costs.
Just curious: If the cost of living is so high where you are, why not move?
I hear that a lot, and it seems to make sense, but it's one of the most cold-hearted things a person can say. There are far more important things in life than being able to buy DVD players, cable tv, etc., and community is one of them. While a lot of people have no problem having no long term ties where they live, that's a relativly new phenomenon, and in my opionon, a destructive one. The truth is, many people grew up surrounded by family and neighbors who were as close as family. Remember the whole, "it takes a village" thing? As cheesey as it sounds, it's true, and to assume it's easy for everyone to uproot and leave their family is wrong. The thing is, these types of communities are especially prevelant in urban areas, where the housing costs (rent if you do, property taxes if you own) have skyrocketed over the past few years.
A-well now, everybody's heard about the bird About the bird, the bird, bird bird bird
Swingin' this dance now to hit the scene It's got the latest groove & it's really clean Haven't you heard about the bird? Don't you know that the bird's the word?

Sorry to reply to my own post but it has been pointed out to me that "poser" is an acceptable pseudonym for "poseur", so the grandparent post is not in need of correction. Sorry about the passive voice as well. And sorry about the fragments.
An African or European swallow?
Get back to work, Tim!

Until pedestrians and cyclists move at 80km, speed does kill.

If the Simpsons go to India, I hope someone puts in a good word for Old Gil. The Simpsons is all I got!

Antidisestablishmentarianism rocks!

Congratulations on losing 150 pounds; that's really impressive.
Bullshit.

That's nothing. I lived in half a window with no basement while studying interns who were paying $9 for some CS.

Sweet! I wish that I were rich and that it was a few years ago, so I could try it. How well did the actual changes match up with the calculated ones?
extended warranty?! how could I lose?
Fuck! This is slashdot?! I thought it was Salon.com's Table Talk! I thought it was weird that there seemed to be more than 2 readers.
Hey -- aren't you that guy who sleeps in the park down the street from my apartment?
s/pseudonym/synonym. Now I look like a total ass.

You mean "Poseur Nerd". Last I checked, nerds won spelling bees.
