    Selective quoting is causing your math conundrum. Add the value of the rest of the items seized and you'll probably end up around $758,000.

    This will be the best thing for grocery self-checkout.
    Have you ever been in line behind Joe "I have no idea where the UPC is" Blow and watch him try to get the scanner to recognize his can of Dinty-Moore stew? It's torture watching him wave the thing 3 feet away from the scanner or swing it back and forth in front of it at 100 mph.
    With this he can drop his carton full of Lean Pockets on the counter, pay, and be gone!

    There's no short-cut to becoming a "popular" band, unless you've got an uncle in the biz or are a creation of a major label.
    Load your equipement into the van and hit the road playing every town you can.
    Make friends with the bands and patrons you meet.
    If you're good they'll tell others.
    (who can then go to your website to see when you're playing again.)

    The word Linux does appeare in the book. On page 6 there's a discussion on why learn assembly language.
    One of Irvine's bullet points is about creating device drivers.
    Here's a snippet... Printer manufacturers, for example, create a different MS-Windows device driver for each model they sell. The same is true for Mac OS, Linux, and other operating systems.
    At Cleveland State this year we had to buy this book and another (can't remeber the name it's used the second half of the semester) for the Lanugage Processor class.

    When I see a biker in full leather chaps and that fringey stuff I always think, man that's a real lifestyle choice.
    If I see you driving this thing I'll think the same thing.
    I'm not sure that I would respect you anymore or less than the biker though.

    That's exactly it!
    They (the company buying the product) needs someone to point the finger at and blame or demand a fix from.
    The large company I work for puts a lot of weight behind buying software that comes with support. It almost always has to be someone with 24/7 contact ability. In house development is done with common tools (Java, C++, VB...) and kept simple so the next contractor that comes in can pick it up quickly.
    If I'm sending or receiving 1,000 purchase orders or invoices a day. Someone better pick up the phone when I've got a problem.
