    Losing Disney/Star Wars/Marvel content is kind of a blessing
      because most "fans" really don't really want to watch them more than once, if that.

    the James Webb Space Telescope, (JWST) is currently scheduled for March 2021. It was designed as the successor to the Hubble , and originally scheduled for launch in June 2018.

    After not being bothered to check on the insect count for 35 years, is it a coincidence this count occurred a little more than a year after Hurricane Maria?

    I'm guessing a category 4 hurricane doesn't do insect populations any favors.

    They have until Septemberish to recreate whatever flash was doing on their web site in javascript or python, or whatever.

    There should be plenty of job openings for contractors or new hires to replace the "functionality" Flash was "providing".

    That being said, I just remembered I had an old Tag Cloud plugin for my web site that used Flash. I should probably check and see if there's something I could replace it with.

    I'm probably either lazy about fixing stuff like this, or contented that once it's done, there were more important other things to do, like sorting my sock drawer.

    I am guessing there is probably some mission critical Flash app someone is using, if so, in 2019, they're doing it wrong, and no longer have an excuse.

  8. A streaming service consisting of PG13 direct to streaming dreck is something I'll pass on.

    The Disneyfied Star Wars movies have been almost as bad as The Phantom Menace or Star Wars Christmas Special.

    I'm guessing The Punisher(s) and Blade(s) won't be available unedited since they're rated R. I still don't know if Disneys Marvel deal included X-men or Spiderman.

    And if you're going to spend money to watch television, the first thing you should buy is a decent antenna and hook up a DVR to it.

    You can get Over The Air DVRs (you may want to add a 2TB USB drive) for about $35 in the US. Most non-rural areas have 40-60 channels available, you can always pick up a cooking show on PBS Create, or do some shopping on QVC if that's what floats your boat.

    Contrary to certain media scare-mongering, helium is fairly abundant. Extracted natural gas contains as much as 7% helium.

    Isn't Helium the second commonest element after Hydrogen?

    Storing it is kinda difficult (for the US Government apparently), but there seems to be a lot of it.

  15. when I was in High School, I begged my parents for a TTY with a punched tape device and an acoustic modem for Christmas.

    So all these years later with TBs of local storage, Multi MB connection to the Internet, streaming video, cell phone... It's pretty miraculous.

    What isn't too surprising is the avarice of companies, the lack of privacy and assholes and control freaks in general.

    Computers in general were supposed to make the world a better place for everyone.

    if the bot is owned by the account it's posting to, it still doesn't have any rights at all, especially first or 2nd amendment rights. /s?

    If a bot is posting to social media to create furor, misinformation, or to pump and dump stocks, it should probably be immediately sentenced to death.

    If a bot can pass a Turing test, and successfully file for citizenship, without human (or legal) assistance, then maybe, just maybe on a case-by-case basis, we could think about it. (or start building cyber walls to keep out foreign bots trying to steal our bots jobs)

    Calling this an "ad-blocker" is a misnomer on your part. It's an ad-filterer. No doubt someone will defeat their filtering and google will again serve malware right through to your desktop.

    It's built-in. If you want to compile your own browser (or use a fork like Chromium) feel free.

    Just because a browser offers protection, doesn't mean you can't add more, with access you can control which was exactly my point.

    It's like people using AdBlock Plus, not knowing ABP has "paid exceptions"

    I agree. It's no more difficult to set up a screen and slide projector. This is the progress we've made in 50 years?

    In a non-apple environment, I could open a browser pointed at the pictures, and use Chromecast to the TV.

    At my house I could copy the images to my NAS and use kodi or something to display the images.

    But they are required to pay 17 percent of their salary to Lambda for two years if they get a job that pays more than $50,000... Payments are capped at $30,000

    The article doesn't say what tuition costs are, but considering a "decent" private school is about $30-50K a year and state schools ar about 17K a year around here, it seems like a not terrible deal, if Lambda is accredited, and ends with a 4 year bachelors degree.

    If it's a 2 year diploma mill arrangement, maybe not quite as good, but probably still a better deal with no interest accrued on a loan.
