Well said. Article was submitted on the basis of the changes to the local ecosystem, rather than as evidence for the global debate - but this is slashdot....
Incorrect, his statement of there being no documented cycle for that amount in that time frame is correct. It is only the implications you could refute.
The current government are into reduction - reducing the public sector, reducing the size of the statute book so cynicism aside I think their manifesto platform will hold.
It's not the cost of the disc at issue, its the significantly lower value of the product. The product value is determined by the buyer, and has no connection to the costs involved. A CD I can put in my PC and emulate one day. I can make copies of it. Its a "thing", with a (shrinking) booklet. It's WORM, rather than the nebulous "DLC".
UK Plc is getting into more debt just to pay the interest on the existing debt. There is a massive black hole in the finances for pensions etc. This parliament is focusing on removing that structural deficit. Debt should peak by 2014. Public sector spending has soared this past decade.
Notably, duty on booze and cigs hasn't been increased, so consumers will continue to drink their sorrows away. It's a gutsy move, but I think consumer spending in the long term will remain steady.
#1 An open source PDF plugin implementation (with all the benefits that entails)
#2 You don't need to install Adobe's plugin
#3 Seriously who marked you up?
While I need a desktop for many of the reasons mentioned above, my main reason is for *comfort*. The chair, the spacious desk with room for my legs, keyboard, wrist rest, mouse pad/rest, notepad, programming books, lamp, large perfectly positioned monitor/multi-mon etc. I imagine I'm not alone in finding good posture and setting essential for doing extended work, something I struggle with sat on the sofa. I have no need to sacrifice space to fit in a laptop when I have a perfectly good PC sat underneath my desk. (or above with the shuttle).
I'm no laptop hater, and for anyone surfing the web they are ideal - but plenty of us (even non-geeks) find a desktop the better option.
And you apparently don't know user agents very well, they suck for printing. OPs options increase by printing as PDF, or by using XSL-FO to convert to *any number* of other formats, even SWG or PNG.
Agreed, if this happened in Europe there could have been an investigation into the failure to protect the users data. Instead, a group who made the flaw public is being investigated. Fact is, they might not of been the first to harvest this data, not that AT&T will ever admit otherwise.
Thats some great spiel, but I think the point is Windows has a much bigger marketshare and a greater percentage of unpatched machines, particularly in regards to 3rd party apps. Hence, the security record for Microsoft portraying itself as a greater danger in this so called "cyber war".
As an aside, 2.6 came out in 2003 wheras Windows 7 came out in 2009. By comparing "latest/greatest" your misrepresenting the userbase pool in the real world, which is what counts.
Also, by implying the number would be greater once you include KDE/FF etc. you must concede that if you were to do the same for Windows and include all popular apps the number would be substantial.
The pay-what-you-want album was new ground, this is just Creative Commons work with some official help.
When are these available for the public and will someone point me to the nearest police station/strip club? thanks! ;)
Everytime I tried Wave I couldn't escape the feeling it was just like a busy wiki, with a superset of features.

Good luck with your fossil fuels mate. You can tell your great grandkids what it was like to have cheap gas, oil and coal.
To be fair I've only visited that site twice and both times I saw a fail whale =(

I never had this problem with my 2002 Windows phone! ;)
Yeah good luck and don't forget sometimes simpler is better.

What exactly is the point of this?

no, as in XML-FO which is designed for publishing.
Export your data to XML or PDF on the fly and have something sensible print it.
I know when I'm off theres no chance of me workin...

I've heard good things so far about the alpha, things are looking up =)
Most other Schengen countries are landlocked or bordered with several other EU countries. We are an island.
2K was my favourite MS Operating system, balanced between stability and performance. It's still on my 2001 laptop. Naturally, Opera is installed.
