Insightful? I hope not for the missing mapeditor comment, as the mapeditor (along with some very comprehensive tutorials along with a nice Google Sketchup exporter) has been released a few weeks now.
And even before that it was possible to make maps for L4D, by using the Hammer-editor with some slight adjustments.
At least when you complaint, try to keep it valid...
What, so now another condition for using Open Source software is that you should be contribruting to it?
If I use Open Office for my company, this means I should be contributing to its codesource? What if my company is an accountant agency? Should I feel morally obliged to hire programmers to do my share?
I think it's quite funny how first the open source movement seems to complaint how everybody is using proprietary software instead of the open source variants, which are (in some cases) perfectly able to do the job.
But now that some companies are alowly picking up some open source software, they get bashed for not contributing.
If you're working on open source software and you got a problem with companies actually using it without contributing, I'm sure there is a license that will let you AND open your source up to other people, AND be able to say that companies can't commercially use it.
How could they open-source a proprietary engine? As far as I know, their latest build was on the Unreal 2 engine, so I don't think it can be their call to open-source the game.
I'm seriously disappointed that the game, after all those years, got canned though. I would have bought this game for sure, if not only because I have awesome memories from Duke Nukem 3D, and its corny one liners.
Blegh:(
I hope that some team will finally create something more original than a remake of Quake 3.
Whereas I truely admire the effort that those teams put in, I think it's a shame that, few exceptions withholding, almost none of the games made with this source is truely original.
Most of the times it's just games that have all the assets replaced, maybe a few weapons added here and there, but always exactly the same gametypes (or small variations) from what we've seen in Quake 3.
When is some team going to stand up to give us a truely original game; The indie community has shown that it's able to provide us with great new gameplay-concepts; Why not use this great engine in that effort?
Now let me do a bit of that myself too, since I think that it's unjust that each time the Dalai Lama is mentioned, people think he's all for justice.
For a bit more balance in the whole story, have a look at this video.
Anyone willing to debunk this, you're welcome; As I still have quite a quarrel with each time the Dalai Lama gets mentioned as some sort of Saint.
(This does not reflect my opinion on the whole Tibet/China debacle; I think that's as bad as it is)
One new map especially catering to the Survival mode, is released (called "Lighthouse"). Other than that, they also make the other two campaigns available to be played in Versus.
Other than that, you should really have a look for the multitude of custom maps/campaigns already available: Definitely with the SDK going to be released, this is only going to grow.
Slashdot called this a 'Funny Capable' comment, and it will face a lawsuit if this turns out not to be true!
Shooting black people in Africa?! RACISM! *blegh*
on
Review: Resident Evil 5
·
· Score: 5, Insightful
I still find it unbelievable how the developers actually caved in after some (overly sensitive people, mind you) people accused them of racism.
A game set in Africa has blaaaaack people: Ohno!
Where were those people when RE4 was released (set in an, iirc, Spanish town), shouting that it was clearly racism to only shoot Spanish people!
Blegh, so bad to see political correctness being brought in by overly sensitive people: I'd even go as far as to say those people are the -real- racists in this society...
Nevertheless, had a go at this game a few days ago; If you liked Resident Evil 4, be sure to get this one. It's more of the same, but has some amazing action sequences (though it wasn't as 'scary' as RE4 was for me).
And House of the Dead Overkill is?
Stop the bullshitting about not fitting their demographic: I'll bet that House of the Dead is going to sell shitloads, just because it caters to that group that's currently neglected on the Wii.
I like Wii myself (and most of the cutesy games by Nintendo), but I wouldn't mind some more 18+ titles on there.
You make it sound as if there's no post-sound production in (non animated) movies: Every realised how much your ears get cheated in those?
Nonetheless, Slumdog Millionaire was an excellent movie, and I hope this extra exposure will get the whole 'orphan'-subject in the picture again. Don't think the sound was deserving an Oscar though.
A friend of mine makes music, and whereas the tunes coming out from Songsmith are quite corny, it has helped him in getting some nice chords together.
Of course he is not literally using the music output from Songsmith, but I can see how it might help a lot more (amateur) music makers out there to see what chords can be used underneath their singing.
It's just a tool people: Don't think that the next Britney is going to use this... Come to think of it, her songs might even improve with it...
Ok, the idea itself has already been around since about '96, and I also remember trying some software named "Whistler" that sortof did the same, only with you whistling.
I'll leave you with an Songsmithed acapella David Lee Roth
Yes, this is unbelievable.
I bought Mirror's Edge yesterday, only to come home and find out that my Logitech DualShock2 gamepad was not properly working: When you press forward, you walk backwards, and vice versa.
Writing on their forums/support, does not help me at all. The only solution is to use "Logitech Profiler", an application that allows you to bind key-presses to the gamepad... But I don't want a f*cking workaround; I want my gamepad to be supported out of the box!
I've decided I'm going to return this game; The only real message I can send to them not supporting one of the largest gamepad-suppliers out there.
I (and the rest of the forum) all think this isn't due to bad QA, but purely a way for Microsoft to get us to buy their shitty gamepad...
Really pissed me off: The game I bought before that was GTA IV... So I think I'll stick to playing my old games for some time in the future.
I very much liked the game, and as others have pointed out, the 'not being able to die' can as well be seen as constantly autosaving yourself.
The thing that -did- bother me is that this 'saving before falling to your death'-animation is your companion quickly flying down to grab you and drop you back on the last ledge you've stood on.
Ok, so I'm a guy, trying to save that same princess from something evil, but before I can face the main boss, I'd have to swing, jump, slide etc towards it: Why isn't that freaking woman instantly flying me there in the first place?
No, only when I make a mistake can she be bothered to show off her amazing flying skillz.
A great storyline will not be able to support sub-par special effects, and vice versa.
I agree that great special effects are not able to support a sub-par script, but I'd have to disagree that a story (how implausible/impossible it might be) can not be told without the use of great special effects.
One example I can think of now would be the first season of Heroes: Whereas the story was quite compelling (for me at least), and the events are quite out of the ordinary, the supporting special effects were quite marginal.

Or... just make your source closed...

Ahyes, good reminder: Achievement Unlocked with this then I guess.

I found the car commercial to be great; It can be watched here, though since the clue has already been given, it prolly won't be as good anymore.
Have a look at this fantastic game made for the NES-emulator: DPad Hero

Whereas I was also quite stumped at the, what I thought to be, sloppy abbreviation; it's an actual word!
Or at least Wikipedia says so.
There -is- a Preview-option, you know that?
:)
You might consider using it next time you make your fifty informative posts.
Btw, thanks for the information
Ohwait, yes, I do. This is Slashdot.

Ok, sorry: No real input from me.

To be honest, I find it quite mountainarious.
