  1. Re:Hooray! on Are Micro-Transactions the Future of Online Game Business Models? · · Score: 1

Sorry, but in this context that doesn't make sense.

Most of the games they're talking about here are free games, where the stuff you can buy doesn't offer a mayor advantage over the people who don't buy it.

Whereas I can see where you're coming from since there are quite some games these days that release extra content (that most likely was already done once the game shipped) for a small fee, I don't think one should complaint about a business-model where the initial fee is nothing.

And sortof on topic, here's a small list of a few (free) games I currently enjoy:

    Anarchy Online: A free MMORPG.
Audition: A Dance-Dance Revolution game... for your fingers.
Quake Live: Though in closed beta atm, still the same adrenalin rush as Q3 gave me.

You mean the same crowd who also immedeately ran to the (digital) store to buy Counter-Strike: Source/HL2 when that got released, because they knew it'd be a quality game?
Of course I don't deny that the creation of mods can cause someone to not buy any games over a longer period; Then again, it should definitely be taken into account that the amount of goodwill created by allowing a game to have mods is being paid for in the future.

    And you tell this because?
There are numerous (high profile) games I've been buying the past years which didn't give me any problems, and even added the advantage over consoles of being able to tinker with it (for example, mods).

The past few GTA releases on the PC were also nearly flawless, so don't know where your advice comes from. I guess you conveniently forget about the PC-games that have no problems whatsoever.

Wow, somehow I don't believe a thing of what you're saying there: How convenient of you to post as an AC...

I had some small problems with my creditcard not being accepted (after already having bought a few games over Steam that way), and my account getting locked.
It took one email, where they immedeately re-activated the account, and told me that they found the use of the CC suspicious (as I was staying in the UK at the time; not the country I had been buying the previous games from).

A friend of mine was also locked out of his account, and also had the same customer-focused replies that I got.

So quit the bullshitting, or put your money where your mouth is and at least post under a non-anonymous nickname.

I'm still waiting for the organisation who's going to take some drastic actions about all the aliens-racism that has been taking place the last few years in games...

    is the right level?

For one, there is no standard in music players, therefor recommending for example, 2/3 of the maximum volume is not an option.
Furthermore, restricting the volume of a music player is not doable either, as there are sometimes those situations in which the environment sounds are too loud for it to be audible.
I can also imagine that loads of other variables are in place (such as type of earbuds), so there just isn't one unique good setting for the volume.

The technical answer to this potential danger would imo be either an option somewhere within the music player which can let you limit yourself to best volume setting; Or in case of music players with no screens/menu, a small line on the volume-knob in between the minimum and maximum.
