I think that if you take the time to explain the importance of something and relate it to something they care about (like not getting their important files held ransom, for example) they will listen. It is just about making it easy to understand.
Now, I have personally met users who are willfully ignorant. I think they are the minority though.
Well, last time I checked Failbook still has a lot of losers. So, no, you may explain until you turn blue, if the user wants the cute cat picture, the user will get it, no matter what.
'The emails and passwords were likely previously stolen either through malware downloaded during phishing attacks or indirectly through data breaches of other companies that stored TWC customer information, including email addresses.'
WTF was the info doing there? Outside TWC? Oh, don't tell me, let me guess: advertising.
Bus I was on last week: computer wouldn't let the back door close. Bus driver, acting from experience apparently, shut the bus off, then turned it back on to reboot the computer and get the bus going again.
Right now, I have 40 open tabs in this Firefox session, opened from different points in time and which I've never closed b'cos they contain interesting tidbits which would be tricky to search for again.
If I knew that there was something that would help me w/ this, I'd use it.
Someone who does self-abasement in order to atone for some real or imagined wrongdoing because his imaginary god told him it's a good idea is a loony. That's not negotiable.
I expect to see new revenue models, which may be a way to continue the tracking, e.g. you pay a monthly subscription to a single "content network" that provides access to thousands of sites if you're logged in, rather than paying sites individually. Obviously that parent network would be able to track which of its sites you're on because you need to authenticate.
Hmm, seems like what the ISPs are doing righ now. Your point is?
They don't expect you to click on ads in every case. They expect you to remember WXY Corp when you're about to buy a widget or service they offer. Which is why they want their ads to be so obnoxious, so you will remember never, ever buy something from them
With name, address, SSN, and birth date compromised (as well as driver's license and passport numbers), anyone can now open new lines of credit in the names of any of the 15 million people whose information was accessed.
And that's why in backworld countries you are required to provide some government issued photo ID when you open a bank account. Just saying.
WTF are you smoking, man? Using a service? What service? Did I force the creator of the said content to post it on the net? If you're not happy with people downloading the shit you've posted on the net for free then put it behind a paywall.
, which means your free/app website won't be available anymore because the developer can't pay his bills to keep a roof over his head. Are consumers incapable of seeing beyond their own myopic, selfish needs or portraying themselves as the victims?
Then build a good AND useful app, price it reasonably and wait for the income. No income? Then your app is not good/useful or it's copying another app and you should try another career.
Children's first word in the rest of the world is not 'sue'.
I just don't buy into this 100%

Compromise. Limit cash to transactions under say $50
Add a couple of zeros and you might have something here.
Oh, sorry, Microsoft has decided it is their computer, and you may only use it according to how they see fit.
Your computer, their software. So, as long as you use their software you agree to bend over and take it in.

Damn, and I told them to ditch Windows!
Not racism, just PC.

You have a typo there. You wrote computer when you meant user, right? Applied vigorously to any user

Yeah, I bought a truck 3 years ago... with CASH.
That ain't right!
Cash? Are you a terrorist or something? Don't you know you MUST use a credit card with every single purchase? Do you want to ruin the economy?
USA you can post that you think Obama and his children are a bunch of racial slur, racial slur, racial slur, and nothing legally will happen to you.
For now. Give it a couple of years and then we'll talk. Or not?
What bloatware does Chrome install?
You mean besides itself?
Of course he is. What's wrong with opening the windows? It's not like they are on a submarine or something, right?
Of course. We're trying to keep people from going OUT, not IN.

There, much better now!
What's wrong, Mr. Marketing Droid? Mad I'm blocking even inside apps ads?
Skip Walking Dead and add ST-Enterprise to the list. And don't even think of Stargate Universe, that's NOT Stargate.
Not since AdAway. Of course you need to be root, but who in their right mind doesn't root his/her Android phone first thing after unpacking?
BUT... There is neither infinite IQ nor 0 intelligence.
Did you look at the politicians, marketing people and (most) TV hosts?
Yeah, I thought so.
Damn it, man! You could have linked to goatse, it would have been less disturbing.
