Why have I not heard of him? Maybe I'll go torrent a couple of his books, and see if he can even write. The fact that some marketing agency is promoting this book is no indication that the author is even literate.
Don't tell anyone the unknown fact that most people use the same password for everything. I was interested in a certain female, so I gained physical access to a machine that person used, booted with a Live-CD, and sent the log-in files to a networked hidey hole. John the Hacker later cracked the password for me. The same password logged me into 3 different webmails, Yahoo, Myspace, and some sex-for-sale sites, as well as a couple gay sites. Of course, IE's and XP's handy log features had already told me which sites to visit.
The whole exercise was educational. At my age, few things surprise or shock me, but I was surprised at how ACTIVE this individual was! More than half the activity was substantiated with some "casual" observation and interviews. All of this just made me want to beat the crap out of the young man who was foolish enough to get involved with the skank, but that's another story......
I have no idea - but anything associated with the CoS HAS to be bad. Really, what has that "church" contributed to anyone outside of the upper echelons of the "church"???
Well, I argue that a few minutes of amusement do not constitute a profit. Really, I insist - let's limit the term profit to "financial gain".
If I play patty-cake with the grand daughter, she and I have benefited from our interaction, but we don't profit. Going swimming with a whole crowd of grandkids and their friends benefits all of us in a number of ways, but there is no profit. The picnic afterwards, ditto. If I take the kids to an amusement park for the swimming and picnic, it might cost me 30, 50, even 100 dollars. But, if I take the kids to the local swimming hole at the river, I don't "profit" from it.
Unless I am a professional music pirate, selling CD's on the street, and/or shipping those CD's to counterfeit music sales points, downloading music is for private amusement and entertainment. I refuse to use the term "profit".
And, I am quite sure that even the politicians and the judges agree.
May I ask what distro you use? On Ubuntu Ibex 64 bit, Chromium seems terribly unstable. It's quite possibly due to my configuration - for instance, I've uninstalled and reinstalled several versions of Webkit, and various libraries. I'm always trying out some new thing (new to me, anyway) so my system can't be called "standard". Maybe I should try a clean install of Ubuntu in a VM to test Chromium's latest?
Linux user restricted to FF and Opera? I'm not sure that you said what you meant to say. Maybe you meant, "Of the three choices being tested, Chromium is still to unreliable to use on Linux."
As Linux users, we have several browsers available that the larger MS audience doesn't have. Midori, epiphany, Konqueror, Links, Links2 - the list goes on.
If you've never used Midori, you should try it. It's the only browser to get 100% on all the acid tests.
The user's subjective experience will sell a product - or not.
I don't care HOW MANY benchmarks a browser might win. If I click a link, and the browser changes to a plain white page, then sits there for 5 seconds, it sucks. On the other hand, if I click a page, immediately see title, wait second for the background, another second for banners to fill in, yet another for the adverts, etc, I can SEE something happening. Even if it takes a full second longer for the page to be finished, I feel like the browser is faster.
So many professionals shoot for the ultimate benchmark figures, with no clue about what the user perceives.
Go ahead, fire up all the browsers you can get your hands on, and test them on some really shitty overbloated page with nonstandard code. Something that you KNOW actually works, but takes three eternities to load. Then come back and talk about seems/second.;^)
I remember, long ago when my kids were little, experimenting with some of those baby sitter softwares. None delivered a reasonable balance between access and protection. The kid said he couldn't find anything on some subject, can't remember now what it was. Or, maybe more accurately, he complained that he was finding limited information. Anyway, I did a search, and got something like a gazillion to the gazillionth power hits. The kid looks over my shoulder, and comments that HIS internet found nothing like that. So, I went to his computer, did the same search, and came up with a couple dozen lame hits.
Out went the baby sitter software.
His little project was completed, it went to school, got graded, and we were so proud of our little guy. *scratches head* Whatever did we do with all those projects? Maybe I can sell his nuclear bomb excavator to a coal company now that the economy sucks so bad. Probably buy groceries for a couple months.......
Maybe you meant "Learn politics" rather than "learn geography"? Ireland is where it is, and that won't change, short of some cataclysmic event. Being part of the UK is - well, just politics!
How inane. For starters, there is an assumption that the downloader has an "account". Second assumption, is that the account actually contains anything. Then, there is the outright fallacy that holding onto the funds that one already has, somehow constitutes a "profit".
If you aren't making a financial profit from downloading music, downloads should be free - period. No hidden tax, no visible tax, no fee, no nothing.
It's just the standard fishing expedition. The defense doesn't HAVE a defense, so they are trying to confuse the issues. Notice that they don't name just a single paper, or a specific number of users or posts. It's a broad sweep with a huge net, meant to pull in a lot of material that will have maximum confusion value.
No one with access to the code cares enough to post it to Wikileaks? Strange..... Does Canada execute whistle blowers or something? I always thought they were at least as free as the United States. Someone put it out there, and let it go viral. Screw the politicians. Better yet, hope they drown in the saunas and pools they build in their back yards with all that bribe money.
It is pretty tough to maintain when the lead developer takes extended vacations with the Rough Riders and the Bitch Babies at their favorite hideaway Oh, for information, it seems that Hans is one of the bitch babies
Waldo got lost, is all. I've been working all day to unclog the toilet. It was WALDO, trying to get out of the sewer!! I'm gonna sue, I tell you - they should have given him a Debian operating system! Microsoft streets, for God's sake!
HUH?!?! OMGZ! It's either a FEmale, or a flaming.... wait - I've heard it repeated here many times - THERES NO GIRLZ ON THE INTERTUBEZ!!
Seriously, when you pull that trick, I want to tag along. I'll wear some raggedy farmer clothes, heck, I'll rub some hayseeds into my hair, stand around and gawk at the crowds, the lights, and generally look retarded.;^)
Not a bad idea. As already pointed out, it's kinda late. Like, I can't just burn half a zillion CD's and label them on short notice. 4 or 5 months notice, I maybe could cope with. And, I'd be more comfortable with "Linux" rather than "New Linux". Just as soon as I say "New Linux", someone is going to ask, "Is there a NEW Linux out? What happened to the OLD Linux?" You should be aware that not all desktops rely on the Gnu. (Yes, I'm aware that Stallman and friends pronounce it G-nu, but that is an artificial bullshit pronunciation for someone who grew up speaking American English)
Why is parent modded troll? If this were the Catholic Church, or the Church of Mormon proselytizing for members, Americans would go after them for violating our freedom of religion laws. If this were a Democratic maneuver for market share, the Republicans would be up in arms. But, it's alright for MS to recruit people to lie to consumers. Parent should be applauded for exercising restraint when he uses the word "unethical".
"Please! No! My head hurts! I think it's going to ASPLODE!"
Breaking news from 99Chan: There seems to be a pandemic of asploding heads this school year. Pagans and deists are attempting to correlate the pandemic with recently enacted legislation which requires high school graduates to understand basic physics. Some radical groups are saying "If man were meant to have science, he would be born with it!"
You may be right - we are speculating, of course. But, every loss for MS focuses a little more attention an the problem. Of course, the attention that is really required is the attention of investors. They have been reaping a lot of profit over the years. When that profit begins to slow down, they will sit up and take notice. When they take notice, they talk to the people who actually run the company, etc etc.....
1 billion, 5 billion, or 20 billion, whatever it takes, I want to see it happen!
"Patent trolls suck, but I want my favorite patent troll to win!"
FFS, unless MS actually loses money, they won't "get behind patent reform" because their strategy will have been successful. If your logic is logic at all, then you WANT MS to lose a billion fucking dollars. THEN MS will actively lobby for patent reform.
Why have I not heard of him? Maybe I'll go torrent a couple of his books, and see if he can even write. The fact that some marketing agency is promoting this book is no indication that the author is even literate.
I, for one, welcome our Lego overlords

A refreshing breath of honesty. Someone mod this youngster up. Then chase him off the lawn, please.
Don't know, don't care. Just keep it off of my lawn.
