At least AT&T is up front about it. Google does everything listed in the summary but they rely on nobody reading the fine print.

  6. Good luck when it breaks on Removing Libsystemd0 From a Live-running Debian System · · Score: 1

Good luck trying to fix something when it breaks. You'll find little or no documentation, scripts that call scripts that lead to more scripts, and logs that don't give you any meaningful information. People did fork a systemd free version of Debian and Slackware is still chugging along without it.

  8. Big Business on EFF: Hundreds of S. Carolina Prisoners Sent To Solitary For Social Media Use · · Score: 4, Insightful

I used to think that inmates talking about prison being a business was bullshit. Then I see how many prisons are privately run and how deals are made to keep that at a certain capacity. Then think of all the support companies that sell items to prisons (clothing, food, equipment, employees, etc etc). Then you look at the incarceration rate of the USA compared to other countries and it all becomes clear.

  9. Yep on Is Modern Linux Becoming Too Complex? · · Score: 1

The answer is BSD. Try it, you'll love it. Great documentation, testing before features go live, UNIX philosophy still alive, the list goes on...

  10. UPnP/DLNA on VLC Acquiring Lots of New Features · · Score: 3, Interesting

I wish they would implement the ability to stream to UPnP devices like a TV over ethernet/wireless. I can't watch movies without the audio compressor plugin. The music and movie sound engineers need to trade places. Going from whispers to ear blasting volumes does not make movies any better. And before you ask no I don't have a surround setup, only left and right Infinity Qe speakers. Surround sound is a cheap gimmick.

You are missing the point. This is a platform for hardware and software hackers. Somewhere between small microcontrollers (PIC/Atmel) and a PC.

  13. Re:Crap hardware, not surprising on Xenon Flashes Can Make New Raspberry Pi 2 Freeze and Reboot · · Score: 2

The Pi was never intended for video playback or a desktop replacement. The main goal was a low cost learning platform.

  14. It succeeded alright on Firefox Succeeded In Its Goal -- But What's Next? · · Score: 1

Firefox has become the new Netscape. Every release was slower and once they switched to Australis I dumped them entirely for Chrome. Most of the addons I used are also available for Chrome now. I got a good laugh reading about their video chat client. Nobody ever asked for that. How about making existing features better instead of adding shit for no good reason? No wonder Google stopped funding them. Google saw the direction it was going for and pulled out.

None of that stuff was ever on clearance when the place was closing. They stuck sale tags on everything and kept prices the same. Every store does this.

  18. Re:Still ARM11, still a crappy CPU on New Multi-Core Raspberry Pi 2 Launches · · Score: 4, Informative

Maybe you should take two minutes and read the FAQ. The Raspberry Pi's primary design goal was to be low cost. There are a hundred other companies now selling more powerful (and expensive) boards. This was designed to be a learning tool for students and hobbyists, not a set top multimedia box.
