You are aware that you can choose not to stories read tagged Apple, right? After all, you took the time to read the summary and presumably to read some comments attached to a story that you are "tired" of. Call me crazy but there's something trollish about taking time to read and comment on something that you profess to be disinterested in...
There are a number of packaged implementations, like PBX in a Flash and Elsatix. If you have basic knowledge of TCP/IP networking you can work your way through it. There are lots of tutorials. I wrestled my way through it and found that it's not that hard unless you need copper lines. Just need to pay special attention to security so you din't end up with a $10,000 phone bill. We're getting ready to dump Vonage for straight VOIP by the minute. For what I'm paying Vonage every month I can have 3 numbers, each with 2 "lines" and 5 times the minutes. We went from PacBell, to Cox to Vonage and now to ala carte VOIP - our phone bill will have gone from $75 to $15 a month...
No, that's not really it. I listend to the conference call, and while he clearly had the "our stuff is the best message" (any CEO that doesn't spout that message should be fired) it was clear that Apple sees Android and iOS as the two major players, and that Apple clearly understands that there is a large group of people that want total control over there device, and for them there is Android.
Agreed. iTunes 10 sucks. I reverted to 9. And it does need to be split up. it does too much. Apple needs to make their iWork applications work like evernote does...
Let me see if I can explain. I do software development for a living. I used to build my own computers and that used to take a lot of time. Now, all nerds know that the "it just works" mantra of Apple is pretty much bullshit, all computers have issues at some point, but I have to say that I spend far less time screwing around with the OS using OSX on Apple hardware than I did with windows or Linux. It's not that it's trouble free, it's that it's a lot less trouble, in my personal experience. Plus under the hood it's basically UNIX and since I was using UNIX before windows even existed I can use all the shell scripting stuff I learned in the 80's. (yes, I can use it with Linux as well, refer to prior statement). And there is nothing wrong with ascetics either. I appreciate the machined aluminium case of my MBP. I've watched the videos of the CNC machines making the cases, plus the case is exceptionally rigid. If hunting down videos of how the case is machined isn't nerdy, I'd like to know what is.
For me the Mac is the best tool for the job, and the 25% premium I paid over a comparable Windows machine has been more than repaid by the time I didn't spend uninstalling crap ware and dealing with typical window maintenance issues, and for me, using an environment that lets me work how I want to work. There are always going to be a large number of people what buy something because of how it looks. How many people actually take their 335is or M3 to a track for example? Personally I don't really care what anyone thinks of my choice of computer, car, watch, cell phone, whatever. I use what works best for me, and right now that is OS X on Apple hardware. If that changes in the future I will too.
Anecdotal. Hard drives have high failure and DOA rates compared to the rest of the stuff that makes a computer. I've had the same experience with Segate drives. The only solution is to not use hard drives. Of the major manufacturers they all have about the same failure rates.
Spoken like someone who gets their news from CNN and Comedy Central. The real issues haven't changed under Obama. Gitmo? check, wiretaps? check, coming out against a lawsuit against a Bush AG? check, poor fiscal policies? checkerino.
It's exceptionally easy to take the party line on this. For example, that Obama inherited Bushes' economy and that the wars started under Bush were the primary economic problems. Unfortunately that's not the whole, or even half the story. Speaking of economics, you should read Times list of the 25 people responsible. It's a very objective view of what happened, and guess what? The Democrats were at fault just as much as the Republicans, of course if you listen to Jon Stewart it was all Bushes fault, and if you listen to Limbaugh it was all Clinton's fault. I can't paste into the comments go just google "Time 25 people financial crisis".
I also love you sentiment that the republicans should go along and not block things, even when it is becoming apparent that currently the majority of people want to stop a lot of the things that are currently happening. Just go to any major polling site and read the pols... I suppose that if a Democratic congress were blocking a Republican President you'd suggest that they were simply acting on principal?
I stand by my original statement: they all suck, and that includes Obama
Thou shalt not in any way display even a hint of criticism of Obama lest ye be branded "troll"
For all you douche bags on/. who mark posts as troll simply because you disagree with the point of view, no matter how thoughtfully or politely made, let me break it down for you in small words that you can all understand: Bush sucked, Obama sucks, he that came before Bush sucked and he or she that will come after Obama shall also suck. Pretty much everyone in congress sucks too. See, elections are a popularity contest and are founded on money, and mostly, complete bullshit. It is very difficult if not impossible to be well informed about candidates because the media selectively tells you what they want to.
D !> R, R !> D, R == D == sucks, and if you truly believe otherwise, you've been had.
Sure, but the lies really are not on the same order of magnitude.
I think that really depends on your point of view and your ability to recognize that you are biased in one direction or the other. Most people are biased. The important thing is to recognize your bias and make sure that you don't think things are neutral simply because you agree with it.
The other thing is to recognize the difference between commentary and news. Most "news" stations are mostly commentary these days and they all have one primary goal, and that is not to deliver the truth, but to make money.
Well there's dual core, then there's dual core. A regular "pentium" dual core is pretty low end, then there's dual core Atom chips, Core2 Duo, i3, i5 and i7 dual core processors. A Core i7 620M is not the same as an Atom dual core processor, but both are dual core. The number of cores is not, by itself, a good measure of cost or performance at least as far as the dual core processors go.
Well, moving the planet out of the solar system effectively hid it. Who looks for a habitable planetin interstellar space? The real question is there they got the trillions of stars to purchase the reactionless drives from the Outsiders that let them accelerate the 6 planets to.9c...
Alternatively, you should never be driving the car at more than 70 mph as it is illegal to do so. Therefore it isn't an issue. Or at least that is the case with the identical Vauxhall Ampere sold in the UK. The rest of Europe uses km/h for its speed limits and the speed limit is typically between 110 km/h and 130 km/h. 70 mph is 112km/h.
I routinely drive from Phoenix to LA and back. The speed limit is 75 on I-10 between Phoenix and Blythe. In CA it drops to 70. If you're doing 75 you'd better not be in the passing lane because the average speed on that road is 85 to 90 for cars in my experience. I've driven that route more than 50 times...
Microsoft to stop making personal music players...

Not the Big Mac, but the McRIb for sure.
Because most mac users use Chrome.

If they start marketing G4 I think they might get sued by Apple even though it's been replaced by Intel chips.
Yes, they're actually losing a little mass on each transaction, but they're buying "observations". They'll make is up on volume!
I am very interested in what you are saying and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

Plus, there's nothing better than a single point of failure...
Intersteller means between starts as in not near a star, as in interstellar travel. You should read Niven's books, they are quite entertaining.

That movie sucked horribly.
