If they do what they are trying to do it will not just affect the US. In fact it could end up making the whole world a scarrier place to live. Not to mention having allmost no personal privacy.
One of my friends built a cd rack out of them by gluing a bunch of them together. it lookes kinda like this

|__| _|__|_ |____| You can stack the CD's in it vretically it holds about 50 jewl cases! I will post a pic if I can get one.
I have been running tomcat on 2 production servers (1 = 4xXeon 700 with 2GB Ram, 2 = 2xAthalon 1.3Ghz 1GB Ram) for about 8 months and they have been pumping out the content with little to know problems (the xeon box came down twice but it turned out to be a bad proc). In addition to the stability I have found them to quite snappy even under a heavy load. The only other pice of advice is that they like their memory at least 1GB and to run lots of daemons by default they seem to take a sec to start. Good Luck!
It (polution) starts to become really scarry when you start adding up all of the little things (like this) that you never think about. Especially when you add it's effect to the larger more commonley talked about polution problems.
What happens when you upgrade your computer and you can no longer burn cd's because the DRM Software thinks that you have trasferred it to a different computer?
I believe that on a whole we are being too hard on ati these drivers are V 1.0 they are not perfect they do not support every feature on every card that ATI has ever mad but they ar a good smart and they are not completeley closed source they have hoven all of the propritary code in to a single library and I believe the reason for doing this is that they do not own that code it is being lisenced from a 3rd party company! So why dont we reserve judgment untill they are a little more mature or at least untill V 1.1
I believe that the tv show beyond 2000 did a story on this 5 or 6 years ago they had several supermarkets using it at the time. They where also using RF tags for the checkout all that you had to do was push your cart through something that looked like a small tent and it read all of your items.
I agree but a few points you are still storing meta data you are just storing it in the file name and for that to work well it owuld be nice to define a scema that can be used by mp3 players and such to parse that info in to a more searchable and readable format. But I agree that now way should we be defining a filesystem for such a trivial task.
Simpley put they do not have the right to do I and speaking as a canadian I hope that he holds them responsible for it. If I where his laywer I would be suing for more than the cost of the equipment.
I don't think that they would be stupid enough to think up the stupid activation process without at least setting up a database of the serial numbers. After all how are they expected to invade your privacy if they cant track who you are where you live what products you have bought from them and their "partners" etc. They are definatley tracking those numbers the only question is weather or not they are going to do anything about it.

you obviousley do not need to keep it cold to keep it in liquid form you only have to put it under pressure.
I am not worried about the ATM network but what about all of the Nuclear Power plants that are run on QNX??
