I know it's hard if you make it look like ass and are not used to proportional typefaces. But that says more about your ways than about usefulness of a particular typeface.
Did it ever cross your mind that an average user is not a programmer and has no idea what you're talking about?
And why do you care about monospaced typefaces when you could just as well use Arial for coding?
The fonts in Windows were optimized for their own font renderer. None of the free fonts have been optimized for aliased rendering using the FreeType renderer.
By meaningless I meant that it doesn't matter whether you have a desire to learn or not. That's what you're sort of angsting about, aren't you? It doesn't matter if you've solved every computational problem in the world. If you did, you'd probably be remembered, what's the point in being remembered?
At some point you enjoyed reading man pages; now you earn money and enjoy life by other means. And nobody forces you to work more than is necessarily... Work is just that - work. Love is work too.
Perhaps you began to realize how meaningless life actually is. Growth in any direction, be that career, health, creativity, family, whatever... what for? What do you gain from this growth?
"But fonts are boring, so nobody is designing them for Linux."
No one is designing them because there are no good free font editors. Besides, there is nothing boring about designing fonts, though creating every possible glyph is.
Of course... What would you expect when theming windows is difficult (you need to know C++) and theming widgets is either too limiting, or difficult (again, you need to know C++). This is unlike Sawfish where making nice-looking themes is pretty stright-forward with the included editor and unlike GTK+ where the pixmap engine is much more flexible and easier to grasp, but which is slow and generally buggy, if I can use that word...
Yeah, and it will kill you.

Well, they have Eve2, so perhaps the downfall has already happened.
Don't try to be perfect in front of a lady.
Hello Miguel. It's nice to see you clarify your position. I have a question, though: What do you consider new under the sun?
Get lost, please.
I'm working on it.

Maybe they are not smart afterall ...
There is no authoritative source other than your own experience.
Hmm. Why should I care if anyone reads my medical record?
United States is a lost cause. No point in worrying about it now.
What are the downsides?
All the way down.
I don't know your name, but I forgive you. Please continue your work towards what you believe in.
In the long term selfish people die and money slowly return back into society.
Sorry, this has actually little do with what I tried to say in my first reply ...

I'm still waiting for that free and usable font editor to make the free fonts...

Have you tried Google?
To make Free fonts one needs Free tools to make them, unless you can pay for a commercial font type editor.
There's some future in PfaEdit which is somewhat Free though...
