    So just to make it clear, since I have Steam installed on my Linux desktop, the Linux desktop is no longer considered open source or free because proprietary applications can be installed?

    The google applications aren't really the "userland" in that they're not the basic system. They add value on top of the core userland (email browser, social site, video player, etc).

    Whoever modded the clueless fuck up above insightful should be spanked.

    Except that Android's userland is also open source and many of the drivers are open source.

    The exceptions are usually due to the hardware manufacturer, which is a problem on desktop linux as well (Nvidia driver, the assholes at broadcom, etc).

    When you were a kid the press hadn't sensationalized all the murder sprees at school.

    Although I think there were significantly less of these back in the day.

    Hard to say in this case, we could just go "FREEDOM!" and complain the kid is being punished. It is an odd thing to do though. Can you imagine the repercussions for the staff if he showed up with an actual gun one day and they had done nothing? I have no love for teachers and administrative staff (they're boring leeches on society) but they would be fired if not brought up on charges.

    It has nothing to do with race. The North Koreans have isolated themselves from the rest of the world for decades.

    It isn't just Japan that's much more advanced, it's South Korea (who are almost identical racially) and everywhere esle.

    Those issues weren't with the language or the vm. They were with applets, which are a shitty deprecated part of the runtime that should be removed.

    Actually, "special design" has been a common issue with Android phones. OEM custom firmware like Sense, TouchWiz, etc. has typically been awful UX-wise compared to stock Android.
