For those of us without cell phones, would there be any serious issues with being able to use one OTP generator for multiple sites? A trust authority issues them, and can verify that you are you to the given organization. A keylogger could gank the code and use it for something else, sure, but if I'm not mistake nthat could happen anyway with per-site.
Behold! He's coming with the clouds! And every eye shall be blind with his glory! Every ear shall be stricken deaf to hear the thunder of his voice! Come forth and drink the waters of the Glow, for this ancient weapon of war is our salvation, it is the very symbol of Atom's glory! Give your bodies to Atom, my friends. Release yourself to his power, feel his Glow and be Divided. There shall be no tears, no sorrow, no suffering, for in the Division, we shall see our release from the pain and hardships of this world. Yea, your suffering shall exist no longer; it shall be washed away in Atom's Glow, burned from you in the fire of his brilliance. Each of us shall give birth to a billion stars formed from the mass of our wretched and filthy bodies.
(begin all caps) zomg social networks are going to replace email, search, im, subversion, ssh, and dynamically loadable kernel modules!!! singularity lol! (end all caps)
Social networking is clearly an important and growing field, but let's try to keep things in perspective.
I'm with you in spirit, but I've never had someone mail me out an OpenOffice Writer file. I still get docs from time to time from the occasional computer-clueless user.
What problem? Maybe if linux stops trying to be a desktop os I won't wakeup tomorrow to find gnome broke another crucial component of my system despite it not being installed. First they came for the wireless card...
Well if we fully implemented a treacherous computing stack then you should be able to have a standard (hell, even open source) DRM schema that would be resistant to most attacks. Sure holes would be found and such, but it would still be reasonably effective.
Postal 1: Really? I never managed to make it five minutes in someone chasing me around with a shotgun, even when (as far as I know) I did everything peacefully.
that sites won't be able to access each other's cookies? That I can easily segregate certain misbehaving sites privacy-wise (I'm looking at you Facebook) in their own tab so they don't clutter up my other sites with social crap [if I don't want it]?
I currently use separate profiles but that's cumbersome.
No longer mere earthbeings and planetbeings are we, but bright children of the stars! And together we shall dance in and out of ten billion years, celebrating the gift of consciousness until the stars themselves grow cold and weary, and our thoughts turn again to the beginning.
It's pretty amazing how they've managed to get their customers to swallow the line that it's reasonable to be expected to pay a third party for "anti-virus" software to fix their errors and vulnerabilities.
Same reason Dell still has to fix my hard drive if it happens to break after I install linux. Most failures won't be caused by the third-party OS and if your hardware is shoddily designed enough that non-malicious software can brick it, its your problem.
I think most of us are troubled that the judge gave such a cavalier dismissal of his right to privacy in a case that amounts to enforcing censorship of free speech.
They should be thankful for the help; aren't they always bitching about lack of manpower? After all, if you really care about releasing the information responsibly (like they do, Pentagon lies aside), rather than just publicity, wouldn't you be glad for 300,000 items off your to-do list? I would.
I agree. Citation needed, Bill. Citation needed.
Icons? Is that the thing at the far-left of the shell prompt?
Insert logic bombs into slashdot to grant you five modpoints on a regular basis?
I guess I'll just uncheck "Obey DRM restrictions" under preferences in kpdf.
There's no logical inconsistency in objecting to plagiarism but not copyright infringement.

I have like six or seven financial accounts. One token is fine but by six or seven you start to get fed up.

I'm already annoyed at how hard it is to get at the menus in Chrome. This is just ridiculous. My screen is 1024x768.

To quote Bill Gates (in the simpsons), you don't get rich by writing a lot of checks!
I don't follow; it's legal for them to tap your phone but not put a bug on your person/office and record face-to-face conversations?

And I applaud them. But will you back them with equally bold actions?

So let me get this straight...in order to buy or sell anything I need to bear the mark of Microsoft on my hardware...
