  1. Re:I think SWYPE will overcome typing on Weak Typing — the Lost Art of the Keyboard · · Score: 1

I like Swype, and use it as my main keyboard on my phone, but it has some major drawbacks. If the word you want to type isn't in its dictionary (a fairly common occurrence for technical terms), it gets to be pretty annoying to use. And god help you if you need to enter a password.

I think you'd have better luck adding a prediction key to the regular keyboard. Maybe cut the space bar in half, with the right half being space and the left half being "guess what word I was typing). Or better yet, do the internet a favor, and move caps lock to an esoteric multikey combo and replace it with the prediction key. There's no reason for it to have such a prominent place anyway.

What are you talking about, "giving [the publisher] an exclusive for free?" They don't want an exclusive to be free, they want to get paid for it!

    Without Microsoft's approach:
Make exclusive deal with Sony, get paid $X
Release on PS, make $Y from sales
(Months later) Release on Xbox, make $Z from sales

    With Microsoft's approach:
Either forfeit $X and release on both consoles simultaneously, or forfeit $Z -- if you weren't planning on taking $Z, then none of Microsoft's policies matter.

What MS is doing is good for customers (though that's not why they're doing it). It sucks when you're forced to wait several extra months to get a game just because the developer was handed a big bag of money by some mega-corp hoping to coerce you into buying their console next time around.

The two thumb method is better for that. You should learn that one too. Yeah, it sucks that you need to learn two ways to type, but whatcha gonna do? Go get some training software and learn to touch type!"

Thanks for letting us know that typing is a useful skill, I guess.

True, but most of those guys are socially-incompetent geeks. From the girls' point of view, as they say, "the odds are good but the goods are odd". If you showed more than once a week and are able to talk to a female without choking on your own tongue, it's not difficult to get a girlfriend in a technical school.

Certain fields (such as a aerospace on the ME side and IC design on the EE side) require you to focus more on depth of knowledge than breadth, but for most careers being well rounded is more important. You even then go on to admit that for reading, e-readers are better. So then why even post an argument to the sentence you quoted, "who wants an e-reader without an e-ink display?"
