  1. MS could take a lesson from Apple on Microsoft Feared Mac Vs. Vista In '05 · · Score: 1

Apple ditched all of the legacy crap. It was somewhat painful, but it's not like peoples old OS's simply stopped working. When they were ready, they upgraded and left the legacy world behind. MS has far more baggage that they need to lose. I think a lot of the 'bloat' associated with MS OS's would go away if they just started with a clean slate. With the popularity of VM's these days, they could easily integrate old app OS support into a shiny new OS using VM's without trying to maintain compatibility. They have simply become old school, and now they will never graduate on their current path...

  2. Cause the others to step up their game? on Microsoft To Offer Free Anti-Virus Software · · Score: 1

I'm guessing that the product will be mediocre at best, but it will at least offer minimal protection to those that wouldn't otherwise purchase it. I think in the end it will be a good thing. Those products that are both fee and pay to play will either stand on their own, or fade into the woodwork as a result. It may even give them a bit of competition. I could see an MS product at least running properly on a windows system so it isn't so cpu intensive perhaps?

You would think they'd have a bit more imagination than this. Then again, if their like me, their probably a little long in the tooth and a bit set in their ways I suppose. They've seen a total of 3 minutes of preview footage, and many of them are already spamming the net with hate speech. Granted, it could turn into a Jar Jar disco party..(sorry, had to pause there to throw up a little), but it could turn out to be pretty damned good. I for one immediately got flashbacks of TOS while watching the new trailer. It has that nice retro feel to it already. Give it a chance and don't be so judgmental. Besides, why in the world would you want to see all of the same series you've been seeing for the last 40 years?

In the end, supporting Vista for my family was a total pain in the ass. At this point, I'll refuse to upgrade any family or friends to a future Windows versions, even if they pay for them simply because the new OS will lead to months of phone calls to me for help. If they push for an upgrade, I'll give them Unbuntu or push them into a cheaper Mac.

I haven't noticed any DRM issues since I've had my PS3, which has been well over a year. When it comes to simple playback, I am just like Joe User. I just want my disc to work, and it does. I am an avid movie collector. I used to buy just about any DVD that tickeled my fancy. When Blu first came out, I was the same, regardless of price, but everything else wasn't so expensive back then. I have cut back on movies that I buy. Where I might have been tempted to buy something that I thought was good, it now has to be a very good to great movie before I'll buy, just because of the cost. I no longer buy DVD at all. I figure if I want it bad enough, it will eventually appear on Blu. I refuse to double dip except for a very few titles like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc.

  20. Joe user doesn't care about DRM on Bad Signs For Blu-ray · · Score: 0

Joe User pops the disc in his player and it works. He never sees the DRM on Blue-Ray. The problem with Blue now is the price. Even I find myself being very selective about what I buy because the price for them is a bit outrageous. Especially when compared to DVD and with the economy like it is. What I've found myself doing is just not buying anything on DVD and only buying my favorites on Blue. It's no surprise that sales have dropped considering the price of everything has gone up.
