The article says, "He then uses three accounts to launder the gold: a duper account, a filter account, and a delivery account--each created using different IPs, credit cards, and computers."
It's hard to believe they can get away with that. It's not like the real world where you can use cash and other tricks to hide the money trail. The administrators should be able to trace down the gold and where it went in seconds if they store enough information on transations.
It's easy to be anti-American/anti-Capitalist when viewing the website gives this error: "We at Showtime Online express our apologies; however, these pages are intended for access only from within the United States."
The claim that WinOS2 was faster then Windows 3.1 was based on the fact that IBM recompilied the Windows source using Watcom C, while Microsoft used Microsoft C.
I was at a talk by the guy who pilots the NASA jet that is designed allow astronauts to train for landing. It is a small jet that has a special control system designed to make it respond like the space shuttle (When flying like the shuttle the engines run in reverse).
He talked about the shuttle's autopilot system. He said that it doesn't use GPS and doesn't know its position precisely enough to land. It works fine at high altitudes where being off by a few meters is no big deal.
One time they turned the autopilot on as they where landing and it almost crashed the plane.
I've had my Palm Tungsten W for almost a year. It has the same resolution and colour depth as this one. Its slow processor means that it take longer to render web pages to download them.
I suspect that the performance may to due to software because I remember my 386 33Mhz doing better then this Palm does, but the web may have been simpler back then.
Not everything will be commoditized, and not everything should be free. Some special purpose software will still require money to get someone to write it, just like dealerships aren't about to start handing out free cars. There's no reason why free markets can't coexist with free software.
Most programmers already work on special purpose in-house software. Software written to be sold to others is a small part of the industry. It only seems large because that software is in such wide spread use. The loss of those jobs to open source would be a minor blip.
The increased efficiency of in-house programmers due to all the available open source might turn out to be the larger effect.
I think all the talk about SWG is partly because it is Star Wars and partly because it is turning out to be such a disaster. Disaster stories are a lot more interresting then everything going smoothly stories about City of Heroes and Final Fanstasy XI.
There are no known active volconoes on Venus. Like Mars there are many extinct volcanoes, however I was talking about active volcanoes and active life.
The question of past life and past volcanoes is separate.
Of the few planet like bodies we've observed we know of two with active volcanoes (Earth and Io) and one with life. However, we haven't really looked hard for life and there are several places where we are planning to look, including Mars and Europa.
While it would be far more exciting to find life then lava, I'm not sure the data backs the assumption that volcanoes are far more common then life.
We know there are only 2 planets/moons with volcanoes, making them a little rare. We know there is 1 planets/moons with life and serveral unknown. Our very palimerary evidence suggests volcanoes are twice as common as life.
We have evidence that life appeared on Earth as soon (by geological time scales) as it was possible to sustain it. There is debate on whether the life experiments on Viking come out positive or negative. Now we have methane and ammonia in the atmosphere.
Perhaps it is our arrogance that insists that we are so special, life of other planets is unlikely.
For too long Star Trek, the most important series in Geek history, has had second class status to Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings and even The Matrix. Those series has their own topics. Star Trek deserves better. Join the others who have signed the petition to give Star Trek a topic on Slashdot.

I suspect that, given the effort required to make a movie, the cost of writing you own renderer, which you can have 100% control over, are pretty insignificant.
They mentioned both of these things. They did say they could have water moving under the ice.
Also as when water freezes it tends to be much more pure then when it was liquid. Impurities get concentrated in the remaining water and will eventually participate out once it become saturated.
During the news conference the possibility was raised that this water was under a protective layer of ice. So this could have happened without a thick and warm atmopshere.
The huge volcanos make it pretty clear Mars was once geologically active, I think.
Those large companies are in many ways in the best position to take advantage of open source software. They can afford to spend the money on in-house programmers to do support, add features and fix bugs in open source software instead of paying Mircosoft and others large amounts of money for bad support, useless features and more bugs.
The risks are much higher when buying closed source software because you never know if the company you are buying from will add the features you want, fix your bugs or even stay in business. Open source software allows you to be in full control.
Those non technical people may seem big, but they have very little power. It's programmers who create open source software are the only ones who can control it because they are the only ones who can create it.
People need Office more then they need Windows. Right now if you need Office, it forces you to buy Windows. If Office works on other system then they don't have to buy Windows and that is about about half of Microsoft's income gone right there.
Once they start using an alternative to Windows, they might start thinking about an alternative to Office.

The best use of these maps would be load them into a racing game and allow you to race around the city of your choice.
I don't hate you because of the cable channel's website. I hate you because you took my post too seriously.

Borland has servived compeating directly against Microsoft for about 20 years now. A lot better then most other software companies.

Until recently Manitoba Telecom Services was government owned, but even now that it has been privatized it has remained relatively innovative.

Actually it is only up in the sky 8-16 hours a day and that is when it isn't cloudy. That is one of the major problems of solar power.

Aren't the Columbia Hills called that because the hills are named after the last crew of the Space Shuttle Columbia.

Still in theoretically impossible stage.
