Good post. I had a similar experience with Lantastic, a BBS, and then moving on to WfW and what I called naively at the time, "Internet Multitasking" using the Trumpet WinSock. "Oh boy I can FTP and use Mosaic at the *same* time!"
I can imagine this new dark underworld/black market where some guy in a trenchcoat says to another man, "Hey man, I got the XP" as he opens up his coat to display his warez.
Definitely... I would also add that the company you go with doesn't need to be an IT shop. Many smaller realty shops or execs that work from home often hire an IT guy as a clerical assistant because of their skills. I think you'd be surprised at the income opportunities as well.
or not.. but you'll save plenty of time and can have a beer or two while you sit back and enjoy seeing your build actually work without having to do it the hard way.

Although for some reason (not browser related) it was forcing me to use the 1040EZ form. So I went over to TaxCut's website--used the 1040 standard form and got a refund of $550 instead of owing $120.
Ever think about it? Padlocks! Bolts! LASER BEAMS!
Think more about the room, and less about the chincy little card reader someone could easily rip out of the front of your case, or better yet just snag the HDD from your system and proceed to hack your data..
10 months of service refunded? Did it ever occur to you to return it within the first month if you didn't like it? Jesus!
If everyone did the same, it would be impossible to get good, cheap service. Rethink your actions. It's not "cool" to get a 10 month refund for something you could've figured out after the first day. Yep, you sure ripped them off.. sigh
The number of fluid ounces in a gallon *can't* change. A gallon is 128 fluid ounces.
If you see the ounces change between brands, then they are measuring weight, not volume. Ice cream is half air. Cheaper brands will contain more air, thus less weight.
Yes, you (all 3 of you that pointed it out--gee thanks) are all right--and I know this fact.
Using Windows as much as I do--I work in a PC repair shop, it comes with the territory--I tend to think, and speak in "customer-lingo" where a URL that generates any error, for any reason is typically referred to as a 404.
It's got absolutely nothing to do with DirectX. Doom 3 is being released for Linux, and that is just around the corner. Supposedly using an OpenGL2 implementation, or so I read.
This is about money, pure and simple. If they thought they would sell another quarter million copies by releasing a Linux client--they'd do it regardless any performance differences.
iD is releasing it because they know from past experience they WILL sell copies.
Trying to reduce kiddie porn by blocking IPs is like trying to reduce the sale of beer by bulldozing the road that leads to the grocery store. It's not gonna work.
Did you read the article? Legitimate businesses, and other sites are being blocked by these filters. If they want to remove these sites, they need to do it by prosecution, not by technical workarounds.
Well, if your going to take that digital copy and compress it to 1/10th it's original size with MP3 compression, you probably won't notice the fact it wasn't ripped digitally anyway, although I've never actually ripped this wanectnobonus_present=1

"corporate biggies outside of software companies tend to consider their IT people as somewhat... strange... more often than not. This is not a new phenomenon. I remember a guy who worked as a mainframe tech for a bank back in the late '60s who went by the name "Paul the Prophet," and had a dyed-green mustache."
I'm the only one that uses this computer, and I have been patched for more than 3 weeks, without even knowing about the vulnerability or the patch.
I'd love to bitch and moan about Microsoft, but come on people, they made updates (semi)automatic! and people still don't patch!
I have actually seen peoples machines where the automatic updates have installed, and *every* time they boot it notifies them: "You have new updates to install" and they completely ignore it. Every boot.
Sigh. Too bad they don't have a patch for human stupidity.
Yep, I have myself a nice set of Torx drives just for this kind of operation. I've done it several times with Western Digital hard drives, and it's always worked regardless of firmware, for me. As long as the logic board was from an exact model number, it has worked.
They had an open beta a while back for Kart-Rider, which was basically a Mario Kart clone. It was excellent, dare I say even better than Nintendo.
Just some background on the company.. as for buying anything for my 'character' I don't see myself doing it.

Kind of a lazy way to pick an email app, but if you like it, I guess that's all that matters.
It takes me all of 10 seconds to import an Outlook/OutlookExpress/Thunderbird profile with a backed up PST/DBX/ProfileFolder
Yes, but not exactly the same as goggles, no?

Works ok here

God the US tax code is so shitty.

They're repeated because users vote on them. If an article drops in votes, it will disappear, but could pop back up again. Or so I figure.

Ah well. At least I think my point got through.

The contents of the address bar are only processed by MSN's built in search form if you don't add the TLD.
'slashhhdot' - would bring up MSN's search.
'www.slashhhdot.com' - would bring a 404 (or now, Verisign's site-finder)
After this change by Verisign, MSN's search operates 100% the same. At least, on my IE6 SP1 with no customizations.

Your user ID is too low to ask a question of this sort!
Use quotes around the words, and it won't do that. Most search engines operate this way.
Oh, and RTFM.
Yea, I found that comment odd also. If having banner ads on their site makes them an evil corporation, quite a few of us are going to hell..

Ok, that's just hilarious.
