ACs are modded -6. I don't read you, I don't mod you, I don't see you. Don't like it? Don't be a coward.
Uh huh. Meanwhile, he made a good point. If you need guaranteed services, you have to realize what it takes. Hosting web services in house has some mythical attraction that i've never grasped. Get this, host at a colo that has multiple very fast very reliable incoming connections, and you then only worry about your internal people.
Dell announces the support of AMD chips in it's desktop lineup, on the heels of Intel's release of a cost/performance competitive desktop chip offering in the form of "Core 2". This sounds like a decision they made 2 years ago, that just now floated through the corporate channels into effect. Along with the other bad news we have been hearing from Dell lately, is it going to mean rough times ahead?
I thought the same thing when reading the article. 30,000 copies is absurd compared to better selling books that never stand the chance of making it on the silver screen.
More appropriately, you should advertise by putting your bumper sticker on the backs of cars whose brakes you have rigged to randomly lock up while at high speed. Hmm, i should have gone into marketing!

Consider the possibility that the word 'Economy' is not elidgible as a root for a word like 'Ecosystem'. I agree entirely with the parent. Economy is the word used to identify an economic system in a community. Ecosystem or Ecology are completely different. This is why we have specific words that mean specific things! Of all places, I am suprised BusinessWeek doesn't know that.
That's hilarious... "Yeah here in mission control we are watching; Someone elses' space launch, Some old picture of a nebula, A picture someone made of a fake planet in a cloud field, Coverage of MIR (i swear thats live), some artist's rendition of 3 aerobag orbiters... What? Our own ship? Right... I think that was on channel 4, where did I leave that remote?"
From TFA: Las Vegas, We Have a Problem
Just as the anticipated time of SpaceQuest's contact with the Genesis I was approaching, a major storm caused power outages in much of the Arlington area. SpaceQuest, which was to receive the first communication from Genesis I and relay it to Las Vegas, had no power. Now, there was a little more than 30 minutes before SpaceQuest controllers were supposed to hear a cry of life from the Genesis I, but there was no life in the receivers in Virginia.
They are trying to manage a SPACEFLIGHT and they don't have a simple backup power source? Don't book my ticket just yet please...

296,344,308,438,456,234 * 349,000,000 = Who the hell cares about that statistic??? Seriously, lets compare the bit count per 1U to the number of chicken eggs laid per year in the US.
Is that the other booster already in the water when this one touches down? You catch a glimpse of something churning up water right before this one hits. If it is, i would never have guessed they land so close to each other considering the trip down.
Because one method involves Chuck Norris and immediate death for the thief. The other involves Charlie Sheen and about two hours of pouty looks and deadpan humor. We owe it to history to properly document this event!
There is no way the thief who had it thought to himself "Hmm all these VA logos, some huge files with a bunch of names and 9 digit numbers. I obviously have nothing important here, I should just return this to the rightful owner."
I mean it's not like this was all over the news or anything. Where would he get an idea like 'steal the identities of 26 million veterans'???
I know I can sleep a little easier (mostly because I was never in the armed services).
On a more serious note, why aren't the headlines reading "VA wrongly accused employee of negligence, prepared to take full blame"? That seems to be the gist of this event.
Is it me or does it look like that backhoe just took a big bite out of the dish in that picture? Wonder how many megabits you can get with a a 5' section missing from your receiver?
$50? Except Godaddy wanted 50 dollars PER DOMAIN, which means they are into these guys for $69,950. That's no small claim, i also don't see it going on anyone's credit card any time soon (maybe an AMEX platinum, but do you think they used that to reg the domains?)
...If i had a magical chart making machine that knew the difference between a decline underway or a true bottom. No way would I use it on the stock market or anything like that. Seriously though, you just need to pay attention to product releases like this, and look at how it compares to existing hardware. Big price cuts generally only happen when bigger and better things roll out in the same segment. Price cuts will happen repeatedly, so don't bother waiting for the 'bottom'!
The future of PC gaming is headed toward the Xbox Live model anyway, why not have the best implementation of that model? Steam and other delivery systems are just catching up to what Live has already accomplished.
Live? LIVE???#$%# Live is the reason I won't get sucked into the xbox360. Yes it's cheaper to buy, but having to pay monthly for the benefit of getting game updates and simple online functionality is reprehensible. Steam, last I checked, is f-r-e-e.
Each wrap is probably only 20 bills (remember, money paper is thick) and at that rate it would be 500 wraps. It is probably also stacked in such a way as to make it look as large as possible. I would suggest, to all those who think they know how much a million in hundreds is physically, to go withdraw it from their bank account, and see.
Anyway, That picture is of an alleged million dollars on display at Binion's Horseshoe, a casino in Las Vegas. Here is a witness account: http://www.amitgoel.com/vegas2002/image2.html
It already happened, Sony published a linux kit for the PS2 which included the hard drive and network adapter, and a hacked up version of RedHat 5. Strangely, it was not a bestseller.
Besides, MS Sony and Nintendo don't want open platforms, because it means people will do what THEY want with the hardware instead of what the COMPANY wants, which is to buy more games at a fever pitch. It doesnt pay for MS to take a loss on a console, make a few dollars on a licensed linux, and kiss royalties goodbye as you use the thing exclusively for a HTPC.
It's a matter of principle. If google doesn't want MS to default their browser's search engine to MSN without notifying the user because they believe in full disclosure or free choice or whatever, there is no reason the same policy shouldn't apply to Firefox as well. IE7 allows for search engine options just like firefox, and IE7 doesn't use its biggest competitor by default, again just like Firefox. Just because one is getting closer to a grey-area anti-trust law than the other shouldn't have anything to do with their appeal on an ethical level. Ethics != law, as we know, and if this were about law then Google would be taking this to court and not making sound bytes.
While this may be true for you, it's a nice blanket statement that absolutely does not apply to everyone. I also have a 2005FPW and I find it to be the best thing since sliced bread. But, once i realized how much better games looked at the native 1650x1080, I didnt see a problem with dropping the cash for a better video card. It makes a world of difference to me to be able to run native res, while still using high res textures and all of the effects. And to answer your seemingly rhetorical questions, there is a HUGE difference in effects generated by the current generation cards and the ones from even a few months ago. Shaders, fog effects, water effects, HDR, etc. have become much easier for the GPU to do as time marches on and hence make the visual experience much better. Yes, I may sound elitist with this statement, but in my opinion modern gaming isn't worth doing if you dont have at least a near modern graphics card.
All you need is one server to have a functioning email system. Can anyone say 'MX priority list'? Of course maybe when each user is taking in hundreds of pieces of spam a day things might get *a little slow*...
We are clearly at a point where words are not necessarily always a good answer. Look at our situation: a generation of kids were raised on 'fight mature, settle it in court' and now we have armies of lawyers and volumes of bad bad laws made by people who decided to molest the legal system into seeing it their way. There are too many good examples of this to name. Clearly, words are not always the answer. Violence is not always the answer. What is?

In short, this sure looks hypocritical to me.
