There is no doubt that his answers will be reviewed before they're sent back to/., but thats not my point. My point is that douches like you aren't even giving the man a chance to answer questions. Its very easy to identify bullshit in "Ask Slashdot" responses.
When there is too much noise in a forum like this there is no way to discern what the guy has to say. If everyone thinks they're being witty and ask him beligerant questions, we won't find out anything.
Yeah it is troll material, but 99% of troll material that falls along the "I hate MS" POV is modded up in this forum.
Everyone should just ask some legitimate questions instead of being assholes and trying to blackball his effort to provide us with legitimate answers. He's taking the time to make himself available and I'm pretty certain that answering Slashdot user questions is not part of his job description.
Most (actually, I think all) of the major Middle-East and Pakhistani uplinks are provided by British companies. I'm sure they therefore have plenty of clout in shutting down these websites.
This of course would only be a reasonable explanation if the machines were hosted outside of Britain. If their within Britain, then it'd be much easier to get them shut down.
I'm surprised the Americans haven't already done this, but they probably would rather have their spooks sniff the connections that were made to the webservers to gather intel.
Does anyone truely believe that this guy will have a difficult time getting hired by someone? I know I don't.
People shouldn't care about the old-skool developer who has 30 yrs under his belt. They should worry about the stiff who just graduated from college and is most likely to be laid off and will have a harder time getting a new job.
I do agree that once you have a solid configuration for a linux box, that it'll generally work indefinately. However, for the average person to configure and use a linux box for their every day tasks is quite simply too difficult. MS makes it VERY easy to install/uninstall/configure and use. The stability of the platform certainly is a problem, however people DO have a choice right now between Linux and Windows, and they're still choosing Windows. You can't chock that up to being the incumbant platforms dominance. There are companies like Lindows (or Linspire, or whatever) whose sole purpose it to steal market share from MS, but they aren't because they are not a viable competitor.
The instant that Linux has a leg up over Windows, you'll know it because there will be a thousand companies formed overnight dedicated to dismantling Microsoft's market share.
Studies show only 0.002% of Slashdot viewers will ever get laid. Additionally the study showed that the slashdot population has the largest population of virgins over the age of 37.
But rather than attempt to win him over as a prize prospect--Sorkin specializes in operating system design and computer security, among other areas--Microsoft interviewers challenged him with a technical "pop quiz," he recalled. No one tried to sell him on either the company or the job, he said. He withdrew his application.
Large companies have corporate policies. Usually when interviewing a candidate for a position, the candidate has to prove that they are capable and worthy of the job. Sorkin apparently believes that he should be treated differently than everyone else. That fact does not suggest that anyone other than Sorkin himself is arrogant and self-centered.
I'm fairly shocked that nobody else has picked up on this nugget of detail yet.
"isolating genetic fragments from fossils of the prehistoric beings"
Since when is there genetic material in fossils? Fossils are mineral deposits, not bone. If its a fossil they're dealing with, then they're looking for genetic material in some rocks which isn't going to show up. If its a bone they're dealing with, then its not a fossil.
The Moon doesn't change sizes (that the human eye can ascertain at least) and it is not magnified by the atmosphere on the horizon. It is merely an optical illusion.
When the Moon is close to the horizon your brain compares its size with terrestrial objects. When its at its zenith, the brain does not. We only perceive it as being larger on the horizon, when in fact our brains are just misjudging its size.
I'd say it's more environmentally friendly than a freon-based system, or other gas-based coolers. True, it still requires electricity for cooling the water and running the fan, but there's no real "waste" material from the whole device.
Uhh yeah, except for the fact that he's using his freon-based refrigerator to make the ice, which then ventilates its heat exaust into the same room that he is attempting to cool off using his jerry rigged system.
For God's sakes, if you're going to be stupid enough to protest something that has absolutely no scientific foundation, and if you're going to take your clothes off in the process, you MUST ABSOLUTELY be an attractive person.
Some of those people just being naked is long term environmental damage.
How about instead of streaming music, you just get to hear me swear and belittle you as you drive at 55 in the fast lane? Thats much more pleasurable for me so long as its a one-way conversation and you're easily intimidated.
I agree. This article is clearly bullshit in its current state. It'd be nice to cure cancer, but I don't believe them. They've offered me no reason to believe a single word in that article. They're just trolling for funding.
Compare the average weight of an American and the average weight of a Canadian and you'll see that fat Americans are living much longer because of decent (in some cases, high quality) health care in the US. It just so happens that an American has roughly the same life expectancy as a Canadian, but on average, Americans are fatter and less healthy.
I wonder if this also means that people deficient in this area are considered gullible. I for one have suffered from gullibility my whole life. So much so that I think I qualify as being 'socially retarded'.
The ironic thing is that I'm not even being sarcastic here...
Well thats the thing. If your best shot is to say the buttons aren't the same, then just wait until a device that has customized buttons come out, like the one Audiovox is debuting (or debuted) soon.
I have one of those new audiovoxes and I play MP3s on it all the time. I think its great. The battery life is superb as well.
Right now certain phones that output audio in stereo quality can be used as MP3 players. They require no additional hardware by the device manufacturer. They only require software and storage. Since most phones being made today come with some sort of media card slot, storage is no longer an issue. This means that the device would only need MP3 software to be an MP3 player.
This is significant because it means that the next time you buy a cell phone, you'll also be buying an MP3 player at no added cost to the manufacturer OR the consumer (in theory). The only reason why someone might want to keep buying ipods is to keep on top of the storage capacity race or to be trendy, otherwise their cellphone is already their mp3 player. The ipod is going to need to come up with new features if they intend to remain in the media market, but there is only so much you can do when your cellphone also plays video files without a hitch and has better screen resolution.
While your argument is a good one, I don't buy it. Specifically because a fork or a spoon being combined into a Spork produces a mediocre device which can be used as either a fork or a spoon. What if the spork was somehow able to change shape to the perfect fork or perfect spoon on command?
I'm simply saying that if you compare what the WM OS is capable of, versus what a Blackberry is capable of, the WM OS has the same (and better) features implemented.
The difference between your typical blackberry and your typical Smartphone/PocketPC is the form factor of the devices. Blackberrys always have a keyboard (people love keyboards). PocketPC and Smartphones generally do not have keyboards. My point is that the form factor is the only outstanding delta between Blackberry and Windows Mobile with respect to functionality.
When OEMs start making Windows Mobile devices with form factors similar to the Blackberry, you'll start to see the Blackberry go the way of the doe-doe. I'm predicting this will happen very soon.
The only thing that would prevent this OS from being a blackberry killer is the lack of "blackberry style" device form factors. Other than that, it does everything a blackberry does, and then some.
Exactly. The difference with this campaign is that there is an extremely vocal contending party.
I do agree some what with their concerns, however this isn't something that previous administrations didn't do. Their complaining now because its working against their interests instead of for them!
There's a big difference between a remotely controlled space craft and an autonomously controlled space craft. Progress is remote controlled. DART was fully autonomous.
Even with a remote controlled space craft, the Russians almost took out MIR.

NASA scientists don't know this? Bullshit alert!
You challenge them with a response before allowing the email into your inbox.
I have a hard time believing its that difficult right now to find a development position with a masters in CS.
This guy would get first dibs over anyone graduating with an undergrad degree, assuming he's not a complete moron.

I've setup an ad-hoc wireless network at 40,000 ft and 600 MPH so I could play multiplayer Half-Life.
