    That's one of the dumbest things I've heard here (and that's saying a lot)

    IBM won't be making these things to order, the minute your RS/6000 (p-series) looses a processor
    in the brick a CE will be out that day to fix it.

    OS/390 is gone because it's old. zOS is the replacement. mostly the same OS, largest update is to 64 bits.

    perhaps the folks using the cluster need the 64 bit address space? you can run of memory space pretty darn quick on a 32 bit machine now.

    sun should help the guy working on the java GNOME bindings. Then their gnome desktop could be a true 'java' desktop.

    before you anti-java wankers reply, the java gnome bindings are the same idea as SWT, they map directly to the C API that gnome has.

    NT server did not decend from VMS. It is not VMS with a gui. It may of had some parts 'inspired' by VMS, but it is definately not VMS.

    OSX is not BSD. It uses a BSD userland, but the kernel is mach.

    I don't know about your organization, but most have a test enviroment that they test patches in before deploying them.

    The problems is that at a lot of places they turn off NFS and don't run SMB to serve files. This makes the only way of transferring files ftp. This new method allows them to have their security checkboxes checked and give the users easier access to their remote home directories.

    This mounts the file system at the OS level. That way emacs, vi, gnome programs, etc. have access to the filesystem, not just KDE.

    I want to work from home because of interruptions. I have a project lead that calls me at least 10 times a day from her fucking speakerphone when she is only 1 row over from me. I also have a co-worker that calls me at least 8 - 9 times a day and comes by my cube several times. Other co-workers come by as well as the boss. If i could work from home I would get 2 - 3 times as much done as I do now.
