Gosh I'm sick of wankers like you that claim that we don't need faster processors. There are folks that do more with their computer then bitch on slashdot.
The problems is that at a lot of places they turn off NFS and don't run SMB to serve files. This makes the only way of transferring files ftp. This new method allows them to have their security checkboxes checked and give the users easier access to their remote home directories.
I want to work from home because of interruptions. I have a project lead that calls me at least 10 times a day from her fucking speakerphone when she is only 1 row over from me. I also have a co-worker that calls me at least 8 - 9 times a day and comes by my cube several times. Other co-workers come by as well as the boss. If i could work from home I would get 2 - 3 times as much done as I do now.

That's one of the dumbest things I've heard here (and that's saying a lot)
IBM won't be making these things to order, the minute your RS/6000 (p-series) looses a processor
in the brick a CE will be out that day to fix it.
sounds like your from cincinnati
OS/390 is gone because it's old. zOS is the replacement. mostly the same OS, largest update is to 64 bits.
perhaps the folks using the cluster need the 64 bit address space? you can run of memory space pretty darn quick on a 32 bit machine now.
sun should help the guy working on the java GNOME bindings. Then their gnome desktop could be a true 'java' desktop.
before you anti-java wankers reply, the java gnome bindings are the same idea as SWT, they map directly to the C API that gnome has.
actually, IBM would probably just want java. the rest (hardware, customers, and service contracts) would be scooped up by Fujitsu
NT server did not decend from VMS. It is not VMS with a gui. It may of had some parts 'inspired' by VMS, but it is definately not VMS.
OSX is not BSD. It uses a BSD userland, but the kernel is mach.
NFS used to be userspace and was slow as shit.
I don't know about your organization, but most have a test enviroment that they test patches in before deploying them.
any dumbass that pushes patches out before testing them is asking for trouble.
the Heist ad was.
I can't be the next OS/2, you can kill processess and the OS won't sit there like a dumbass.
that was the worst part about OS/2, no hard kill.
Websphere Studio which is based on Eclipse does this.
Just like Seagate won't support you if you open up your hard drive and lick the platters clean.
those bastards.
this is really a plot to raise money for cash strapped school districts. THey take web cam movies of sex education and sell it on the web.
it's part of the of being rich. You become obsessed with aquiring more money.
I'd wager that for Larry there is a while lot of ego involved also.
Are you smoking crack? AIX was running on Power PC chips before gay ass apple ever did.
Dude, your a weak Jack Wagner
Blame C++. That is the reason.

In that setup, somebody would probably set up a goatse channel just to piss people off

This mounts the file system at the OS level. That way emacs, vi, gnome programs, etc. have access to the filesystem, not just KDE.
Gosh this would suck. I get interrupted enough as it is.
