That is the last thing I need. Hey lets chuck a banana in this box with a 30 lb sack of dog food.. SPLAT! or I'll get a giant damn box with nothing but 300 air packs and frickin banana because the my item shipped form a different warehouse than the bananas. At a minimum my cat will enjoy the box.
Well if you want to come sort and document a poorly documented 60,000 user environment spanning 19 states 48 domains with Exchange, Lync, Sharepoint, tons of SQL databases and a host of custom interfaces to healthcare specific apps that live on AS400 systems be my guest.
Funny thing.. I know a place in Denver where that happened. The company announced the outsourcing and all the highly skilled admins who had run the place for the last decade bounced out to new jobs within a few months. They had to call in Microsoft just to document some of the systems for the new H1B contractors.
The only time you should need the supercharger is on a road trip.. the rest of the time top it off at home while you sleep. You know.. that thing you can't do with a gas powered car. Holiday weekends may get ugly but your average road top shouldn't be an issue.
There are lots of folks in the Salary worker under 50k boat. Mostly in Office management and restaurants. My wife wa sone of them until recently.
Getting paid $35k a year and expected to work 60+ hours a week. Sometimes more making their effective hourly wake less than minimum because of all the unpaid overtime.
That would never fly in our environment. We had a project to eliminate all local admin needs across all desktops. If you somehow sneak a local admin into your machine it will be gone with the next reboot.
That program would have to get through cyber and pier review before it could be distributed.
Network segmentation, internal firewalls, client firewalls and admin isolation are the keys to preventing this.
Local Server and client firewalls prevent access to system shares from unauthorized sources.
Firewalls segmenting the network help isolate an outbreak.
Admin isolation: No logging onto your desktop as admin ever! management tasks are done by remote access to workstations isolated in their own hardened network segment and built for admin tasks.
Overkill? depends on your point of view. I know of places doing it this way.
Admins will fight not having their tool set local on their machines but after you get used to it it's better.
Well you will be happy to know the FAA bypassed that whole drove vs model aircraft issue and just classified them all as UAS. All over 0.55lbs are to be registered. Fixed, Heli, Quads.. ALL..
Fixing the H1B visa issue is as simple as finally updating the 1998 law that set the minimum H1B salary at $60,000. Adjusted to the 2015 dollar they should be paid $90,000. That right there would return the H1B to the intended highly skilled professional rather than the current cheep 60k replacement worker.
When the H1B bill was passed in 1998 it set a reasonable for the time exemption pay of $60,000 pr year. Paying a H1B employee more than $60k let the employer bypass the no displaced worker requirement. At the time you could almost fall out of a tree and get an IT job. Workers were hard to find and H1B filled a need.
Now here we are 17 years later and the $60k threshold has never been adjusted for inflation. What was once a tool to protect US workers is now a low wage target off shore outsourcing company's use to bid low ball IT contracts that displace US workers.
Adjusted for inflation the limit should be closer to $90,000 in 2015 dollars. Congress needs to bring the H1B minimum pay back into balance with today's job market.
I guess that is why my old Co-Workers at Catholic Health had to train their H1B replacements to do their own jobs before they were laid off. Clearly they couldn't find anyone to do the job other than the people already doing it.
Just wanted to get one thing straight.. 240v is single phase.. 120 comes from center tapping a single phase 240v transformer.. (your neutral line in the house is the center tap) AKA Split Phase.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Split-phase_electric_power
In 3 phase the wave form of each 60hz phase is shifted 120 degrees so each peaks at a different time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-phase_electric_power
The old OKI C5200N color laser used toner tanks.. I could get a refiled set of 4 for $100.
I ran it for 7 years on the original imaging drums until it started having feed problems.
It was replaced with an HP Pro 200 color laser.. I'm a little over 1 year in on the demo toner it came with.. We did replace black once.. It's been complaining about the color and black being 0% left for a few months but it keeps printing so why bother..
The major networks don't make many big hot shows anymore.. It's a vast sea of low cost reality TV crap with a few good shows in the mix.. HBO, Showtime and Netflix have stepped in to fill a void the major networks left plus they control the copyrights, content and distribution..
HBO and showtime learned years ago that producing edgy shows that go beyond what the FCC allows for broadcast TV pulls in and keeps subscribers. Netflix is just following that successful model.
Lets face it.. Orange is the new black wouldn't be half of what it is edited for broadcast TV.
The new twist netflix offers is binge watching a whole season at one time.
I work on a government contract that requires all workers to be US nationals so I don't see that side of it.
Now at my last job they decided to outsource IT to WiPro and laid off everyone below management nationally.. everyone! They were replaced with H1B workers.
From what I've heard management is regretting that decision but now they lost all their staff that had experience with they systems.

Holy crap.. #10,452.. when did you join?

Just like the 60kw S models it will probably be a $2500 extra cost option.

This wont last long. The FBI, NSA and probably half a dosen other agencies will start to cry "but terrorism!!11!!!"
NSA: No problem.. We have all the old mail and a rolling grab on new stuff..

I took a tour of the hanford Ligo site a few years ago..
The staff there said at one point they were trying to figure out a vibration they were detecting on a regular basis..
They finally figured out they were picking up when the spillways were open on McNary dam 60 miles away.
They also pick up trains in the Columbia river gorge and traffic on highway 240 near by.
Catholic Health Initiatives.. Outsourced to Wipro.. laid off all IT staff below management without severance. WiPro H1B's took over their positions.
I have a bunch of H-1B workers (All Indian) at my place of employment, so yeah, they DO replace American workers.
Yup.. Wipro took over IT at the last place I worked.. 200 US workers pushed out the door..

Interesting perspective..

OK boys.. We need $3000 for gas, 6 oil changes en route and a new set of tires when we get home.
I've only killed 1 LED bulb so far.. Well wounded is more like it...
It spent 6 months in a sealed shower light fixture before it started to flicker after it was on for 10-20 minutes.
I moved it to a desk lamp and it's happy there.. Another LED is in the torture box and doing fine.
