Other people tend to forget that Microsoft has been found to be a monopolist.

As such they should not be able to leverage their monopoly (the desktop) against competitors in other areas (AOL/MSN).

Some people just like to spout off about free market. The fact is we do NOT live in a completely free market and there are certain actions a monopoly may NOT take under our laws.

How does it follow that the lack of tech support is due to arrogance or elitist? I think it basically comes down to the fact that the cost of tech support is not factored into the cost of most products.

To praise microsoft for their level of support while paying for it, and condemning those who offer it for free, but don't charge is ignorant.

Mindspring does NOT provide you high speed internet access. They provide you service over a line (cable or phone) that is provided by your telephone company, cable company or CLEC.

The concern is the death, recent or impending, of the CLECs. (i.e. northpoint, rythms, covad), not the ISPs.

The companies providing high speed are the bells (Verizon, SBC, BellSouth, etc), cable companies (ATT, RCN, etc) and Covad/Rythms.
