It's true -- we still have cable TV, but stream a lot more content from Netflix than we get from the cable company. And if Netflix can sign a few more deals for access to content, they'll be all we really need.
The current generation of kids(20 and under) have no idea what life was like beforehand. They'll be the ones driving the stake through the heart of the music/film/tv industries.
I was explaining this to my ten year old just the other day, that when I was his age our TV could receive seven channels: the three major networks, two PBS stations, and two independent stations.
Now is definitely better. And I can't wait to see what my (eventual) grandkids will take for granted.
The films will explore the nature and origin of the unknown extraterrestrial race, who only had a brief appearance in the first Alien as the derelict spaceship's pilot.
Ayn Rand style Objectivism/Libertarianism holds that self-interest is the highest moral principle and altruism is evil; wealth is proof of moral rectitude, and poverty is proof of sloth and moral degeneracy.
Objectivists may believe this, but it's not part of libertarianism. Many libertarians think that helping others is great, they just don't think the state should force people to do it.
They have a monopoly and they just don't care. The FCC and FTC were so weakened by the Bush administration that our government can do nothing to help protect the citizens that elected them.
Corporatism at work!
If you're still calling it "our" government, then you've missed the lesson here. Political power flows to those with the money to buy it. The only longterm solution to this is for there to be less political power to be bought and used against everyone else.
2. A "30 minute" speech that takes an hour just to READ, much less to speak. That's just wrong. Never mind that if you're too dim to have gotten the point by that late in the novel you never will, speech or not.. It's a waste of time and destroys whatever believability the rest of the novel would otherwise had.
When I first started hanging around with people who like Ayn Rand in my late teens, I was actually advised to skip the speech. Not everyone agrees, though, I think the speech is broadcast every year by some radio network.
Anyway, I'd recommend people read We the Living, but not the others. Well, maybe Anthem since it can be read in an hour or so, hell, it's probably shorter than John Galt's speech.
So, if she's a hero of the political right, then the political right approves of adultery and malicious behavior.
Most conservatives would probably claim they don't approve of these things, yet your theory would explain why so many of them still seem to like Newt Gingrich.
No problem, just keep a text file open at all times that has all those characters in it, and alt-tab back and forth to copy and paste as needed. Who needs an extra key when you can do that?~
That's one thing I've never understood. What exactly is wrong with an animal having a caring owner, someone to trust to, a warm home, no need to be afraid of predators, and not having to get cold and sometimes go days without food?
Nothing at all. And I'm vegan.
In fact, this is probably a good time to point out that not all vegans think the PETA people have their heads on straight. Just because I don't want to contribute to the cruelty that happens in factory farms doesn't mean I think animals should have the right to vote or whatever.
Look, I understand that some people get wood when they hear the word 'constitution'. Really, I get that. But the damned thing is just another set of laws. These laws can be amended, reinterpreted, or even (gasp) removed and are meant to be so.
And while they weren't meant to simply be ignored, that's sadly on the list as well.
Probably Beatles music has been beamed in the direction of Alpha Centuri.
Big mistake. A little over four years from now:
"War Leader Kqaac, our translators say that the Earthlings believe that all you need is love." "Excellent, then the Earthlings have no defenses! Launch the attack fleets!"

You should have said, "But this is where I want to be!"
Ooo, I like people like you because you keep my gym membership affordable, and I actually use it. Thanks!

We'll call them... the Predators!
But within the foreseeable future, cracking those same codes could become trivial, thanks to quantum computing."
Awesome! I'm really curious what's in Julian Assange's insurance file!

Evidently, not enough people there watched Babylon 5. Sadly, the same seems to be true in the U.S.

Sorry, I thought the idea was ridiculous enough that everyone would realize that I was kidding.
I even put that ~ after it for sarcasm like that guy's sig suggests.

Here!
Maybe naming it the "iPad" wasn't so dumb after all....
As in the phenomenal movie The Man From Earth.
That's different. In that case, it's turtles all the way down.
Hulk smash!!!

"Since no one has seen it, touched it, tasted it, smelt it, or felt it."
the same can be said for gravity.
Really? Where do you live? I feel gravity constantly.

No, a Procariot is someone from Procyon, like how a Cypriot is someone from Cyprus.
Not necessarily. Maybe the observer has a spin of 1/2.
Besides, correlation is not causation.
