Can't we just teach people to set their thermostats a couple of degrees higher in the summer and lower in the winter to save electricity and gas? Can't we just teach people to take colder showers?

Maybe to some extent, but remember that we developed technology in part so that we wouldn't have to be too cold or too hot. I'm all for conserving energy, but there's a difference between wasting energy and using it to have better lives.

The less respect politicians get the better. If smart people are discouraged from government, and end up in the private sector, that's helps us all in the long run, since the private sector is the origin of real solutions.

In fact, I've always thought it would be interesting to do an index that tracks the number of people who work for government and their respective ability levels (degrees held, etc.) and compares is with the overall work force to see what percentage of human resources are wasted.

I respectfully disagree. There was a time when I had three domains for different projects, one for my personal site, and one for my resume and other professional information. I don't think that I should have had to shell out $1,175 a year for that. Besides, people would use fronts to own domain names if there were a graduated registration fee. Once it's cheaper to incorporate or register a DBA than to pay the higher fee, well, there you go.
