    Sorry, I don't have the time to RTFA, but it seems strange to talk about entangled photons that don't exist at the "same time" when SR say simultaneity is relative. While they might not exist at the same time in one reference frame, you'd think there's bound to be one in which they do.

    Yeah - no. If you're the type of person who has to drink some crappy-tasting version of a a beverage so that you can have something sweet 24/7 instead of practicing *gasp* moderation, then I don't care how few calories are in that can. Eventually you're going to eat your way to a lard-ass in other ways.

    Best to give up soda completely or have the real stuff much much less. Me, I'll have a 12 ounce real soda once a week (if that) and it tastes like a rare, tasty treat rather than some foul, knock-off necessity.

    Still, Hawking was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge for a long time, so he is highly intelligent. I don't think of him as that great of a communicator, honestly.

    Scenario five: you hit it off, you don't rush things, you don't kill the pre-makeout mood, you check while putting on the condom... and it's positive, you two are second cousins twice removed or something

    Not to ruin the joke or anything, but if the second cousins are twice removed then they're typically off by a couple generations. The age discrepancy would be awkward enough.

    Twelve AM was set up to be defined as the middle of the night; 12 PM the middle of the day. (Or 00:00/12:00 if you prefer the 24 hour clock). Don't like how dark that makes the usual active hours during the Winter? Fine - switch the hours that businesses are active. But please stop arbitrarily changing time-keeping.

    The war in Iraq was about one thing; Iran. Stabilizing the Middle East by reducing the amount of megalomaniacs by one. By calling Saddam's bluff (which was aimed more at Iran than the U.S.) the coalition slowed down a Middle-East arms race that was just getting started, but was going to speed up quickly once Iraq rebuilt its military capacity.

    Assuming that were the case, it would have been nice if the the administration used that reasoning to justify the war instead of the lies they did.

    You can end the threat quickly. Break their fingers. Kick them in the knee or groin. Poke them in the eye. It might cause injury, but nobody could reasonably argue that you were threatening them with death.

    Just because you react with the intention to do any of these things doesn't mean you'll be successful. Fighting is hard. Especially against a physically superior opponent, or one with more fighting experience than you.

    Inflicting injury with a gun is so much more assured.

    That's just it though. The vast majority of injuries and deaths from gun violence are from handguns, not "assault rifles". The reason these are being targeted is because they look scary and the legislation is good for scoring political points. If these politicians were more interested in actually solving problems instead I might be able to respect them.

    When talking about rights in the US, it is not (or at least should not be) the responsibility of a citizen to provide a reason for having a right. It is instead the responsibility of the state to provide a reason to take one away.

    The US is a pretty big country, and there are a lot of other countries where I would feel a lot less comfortable about walking down the street at night, or worse, having a woman walk down the street at night.

    Right. The amount of harassment (or worse) that a woman gets walking down the street in the US is laughably small in comparison to countries like Egypt, India, and many many others.

    Not always. I remember a while ago looking at some of iD's code for Quake III and being shocked that it actually did look clean enough to be something I'd encounter in school. But they do have a lot more control over their deadlines than a lot of places.

    I remember back during the Clinton days in a red state the amount of vitriol and extremely vile and vulgar things said about Clinton. Then in the Bush days, particularly in the second term, it happened all over again

    I was fine with Bush Jr. right up to the point where his administration essentially lied us into the Iraq War. After that - vitriol earned.

    Dropping mobile component prices would be advantageous to anyone involved in the mobile market. Touch screen technology could have been used by MS as well, but wasn't. Why did it turn out just to be "lucky" for Apple?
