I reckon we'll be banned from driving in the next 15 years.
Think about it, if the driverless cars that are definitely coming are proven to be safer than human driven cars, which I suspect they will be, how will any government justify letting us drive?
Even if the governemnt doesn't ban driving, the insurance industry will probably make it so expensive that it is effectively banned.
Iran is a very old civilisation, you seem to have bought in to the propaganda that they are a bunch of nutters but what's your evidence? A discredited claim that they claimed to want to 'wipe Israel off the map' which given that it is clearly an English idiom is unlikely to be a valid translation.
Wake up and smell the bullshit. They will get nukes, the only question is are we going to provoke them into a war first?
In the UK for all its faults, the parties and candidates do not require ridiculous amounts of money to compete in an election. As a result candidates don't have to sell out to lobbies to get elected, at least not the kind of lobbies that are interested in particular issues.
The main problem in the US is political funding. As long as the Supreme Court equates 'the right to free speech' as the 'right to spend huge amounts of money corrupting politicians who can spend it slagging off their opponents using tv ads' you're pretty much screwed.
Over here candidates are capped in what they can spend (~ $50,000 per member of parliament) so you can't easily buy your seat, and the media has to try to be unbiased and give equal time to all sides.
(in ~500 years, maybe less, there will only be 1 human race left, unless global travel ends before that time). It is not known which race that will be, but if other island species evolution patterns are any indications, whatever race survives will look a lot like the original human race. It would be interesting to see whether the remaining race would be black or not (if not, that would be a strong indication that the original humans in Africa were not actually black before the races split up. My money's on that they weren't black (cause primates have white skin), but it could very well depend on the exact timing of the split).
Why on earth is this dross modded as +4 informative? Slashdot is not what it once was.
As I understand it Tesla didn't win his court case.
Not sure why you feel the need to do Marconi down, it looks like it was the usual story of many people working on an obviously fruitful area of research and building on each others ideas. Marconi seems to have been the first to build a genuinely useful setup and therefore gets the most recognition.
I'm not American and I can both google and read. The link you include is to an article in the Guardian (I'm English as is the Guardian) which shows that the US didn't 'reject' the offer, the offer came with unacceptable conditions and was only made afer the war had started.
I'm not making a point about the rights or wrongs of the war I'm just disputing your claim that the US rejected the Taliban offer to hand over Bin Laden and went ahead with the war anyway.
I'm not an apologist for Iran but it's clear that 'Wipe off the map' is an English idiom. It's very unlikely that whatever he said would translate directly to an English idiom so it was probably a bad translation unless he said something like 'smear from the visual representation of the area'
Care to back up that claim with anything? The 'only reason' the UK is fine is because it took a lot of money from the EU? We didn't take a lot of money from the EU, we are massively net contributors every year.
The UK has never defaulted on its debts and considering we invented the concept of a 'National Debt' that is saying something. There is no way we would give up that record easily as it saves us a couple of points on our interest payments in perpetuity.
I think we may have renegotiated a couple of bilateral agreements with countries during the World Wars but we've never defaulted.
The Eu is a trap that is steadily making Europe less democratic. It's just effectively removed the elected Greek and Italian governments using the excuse that they cannot be trusted to do the right things.
You're right but I do wonder if anyone would want to take a journey that caused you to become out of synch with all of your peers. As you decelerated you'd be hit by more than 3 years of news from earth in less than 1 year etc.
Without FTL the idea of any meaningful inter stellar civilisation seems impossible to me.
The point that I was responding to was that just because cars can drive themselves we might still need the same number. The poster was suggesting that we could all share cars as they could move between people on their own, I was pointing out that people tend to commute at the same time.
Your point about buses added nothing and wasn't funny. If buses were the answer, we'd all be using them now.

I work in IT in the UK and hadn't heard of either of them either.

Why is this tagged as funny?
Sounds fairly plausible and bleak to me.

I'll bite, what's your evidence for this claim?
What's your evidence that the Taliban offered up Bin Laden in 2001 - 2002?
They said they might discuss it if there was sufficient evidence but that was just before the invasion and quite clearly a last ditch stalling tactic.
I'd be genuinely interested if you have some kind of evidence.

Your argument only works for a closed system involving one country.
I know it comes as a shock to many slashdotters but America is not the world.
In the UK (population 62 million) the police have shot about 30 people dead in the last 15 years.
In Chicago (2.8 million) the police have managed 42 so far this year.
Mother Teresa was not a particularly nice person.

What has Alex Jones ever been right about that we didn't know anyway?

Weirdly our political system is based on the idea that people will vote, an entirely irrational use of your time.
It isn't, everything in the universe is getting smaller.
Don't forget to disable IPv6 if you're using Windows, otherwise people can see your IP address despite the VPN.
He had a golden gun. I reckon that alone makes the story worthy of Slashdot

If you think about it, that would actually be a good thing assuming you thought you could trust the people already there to be friendly.
HMS Bellerophon accepted the surrender of Napoleon in 1815.

Watch some footage of the car in action. It works
