    It's not just plurality voting that makes Canada different. There are also three major parties and a couple of minor ones so it gives people (and the media) more places to slot themselves thus avoiding the US vs. THEM mentality.

    If there were more choices than the Democrats and the Republicans I'm guessing it would be more like Canada and less like a WWE smackdown.

    Diclaimer: I'm a Canadian but an avid observer of American politics.

    That being said, you're right that the British colonies in North America had nothing to do with the burning of the White House. It was the British navy, not the colonists, that raided and burnt down the White House.

    I was at that conference. IBM/Softlayer is built entirely from a fork of cloudstack they brand inhouse as IMS.

    Yeah, if this is the IMS you're talking about it has nothing to do with cloudstack. Unless you're suggesting IBM forked cloudstack back in 1966.

    I assume you mean generic programming on Windows is easier in C#. Although debatable on Windows, it's less so on some platforms and impossible on others.

    All the languages that have truly had longevity have also been generally available on numerous platforms (i.e. not just Windows and Mac).

    Apple filed a patent lawsuit against HTC in 2010, and Samsung in 2011. According to Wikipedia, are the only two patent lawsuits Apple has ever filed in the entire history of the company.

    Just like adding "on the internet" to a patent description seems to negate prior art I'm sure "by scanning a person's face" rather than "by scanning a person's ear" will make it sufficiently "unique".

    I'll take a government I can vote out of office than a corporation that can rebrand, hide behind subsidiaries, operate out of tax havens, etc.

    Large corporations have proven time and again that, when left to their own devices, they will screw over consumers, each other and anyone unfortunate enough to live near their factories. The only check on this type of amoral behaviour is responsible, democratically elected governments.

    I've been using various flavours of Unix (commercial and free) for over 25 years and I've never had occasion to use '--'. I may have even come across it at some point but since I haven't needed it it's not something in my every day bag of tricks.

    It does sound as though it's one of those things that once you need it you never forget it.
