Actually, this was the case with a lot of the 'corruption' cases that sprang up. Clinton's Justice Department was noticably lackadaisical about prosecuting or enforcing certain accounting standards (depends on what your definition of 'profit' is, I guess.) Anyway, when Bush comes into office, with a business background, 'fudging the numbers' is not cool. You either made a profit or you didn't, regardless of what shell offshore companies you bought.
I have always found it curious that on Bush's watch all of these corrupt companies were brought to Justice (especially since Enron had Bush in their pocket, what with them hiring a Clinton official as spokesman) and yet Bush is tagged with fostering this corruption. I guess you can fool most of the people most of the time.
I don't think Apple did anything other than do what they thought they could get away with (i.e. what everyone else was doing.) Besides, it's not like the rules for Exec Comp valuation don't change every other year (google 'Black Scholes Option Valuation' to get a sense.)
If you had bothered to read the fine article, you would realize that four machines can't use the USB device at the same time with this, either.
From the article:
Q: What happens when two people try to use the same device at the same time from two different computers?
A: Keep in mind that USB provides a connecting technology and not a network. Since the USB MultiSwitch Hub is a standard USB 2.0 device, only one person can use a connected device at a time. For example, I plug in my MultiSwitch Hub-enabled laptop, share your printer and/or get what I need from an external USB hard drive and then, when you want it back, we switch the devices back to you. If we want to toggle back and forth, we can do that. But only one of us can access the desired USB device at a time.
institutional investors such as governments statistically beat out rates of returns compared to individual investors
That's because the government can print money faster than individual investors... BTW, the government is not a direct investor in companies, i.e. stockholder. And while mutual funds and investment companies might beat out YOUR individual rate of return, they do not beat mine.
You might want to read some Friedman. His economics work a lot better than Keynes'.
I call bullshit. Have you EVER cleaned up your libraries? I'm fucking serious. Regardless of whether they're shared or not (and good luck with that one.) Nobody keeps their house completely clean and the size of libraries is nothing compared to thee amount of pr0n or other shit on a hard drive.
Just STOP with the 'shared' library argument. One thing you can give Windows credit for is that it will even uninstall.dll files when you uninstall the app that it came with. The only exception is if something in the reg changed.
But this old canard about Windows adding a library every time is horseshit. Let it die unless and until there's a decent package system that includes backing out old libraries. And no, 'checkinstall' doesn't cut it.
I believe there is a quote along the lines of "I don't want NBC reporting on Disney. I don't want Disney reporting on Disney." from the CEO of Disney about a decade back. He didn't want NBC reporting any negative publicity on it's parent company.
FYI... ABC is owned by Disney. NBC is owned by GE. CBS is owned by Westinghouse.
As far as I can tell, with all of the junk mail that comes piling into my mailbox, the USPS ain't going anywhere anytime soon. Besides, they more powers and subsidies than any other delivery corporation out there. I highly doubt they were scared - considering the quality of service I receive in downtown Philly - job security is not an issue.
Have you read the Cox Report? I undertand there was tech sharing under Reagan and Bush (and I love how liberals HATE when you use Clinton as an example but will pull out Reagan or Bush for moral equivalence in a heartbeat), however certain things were prevented by being shared, among them Nav tech. What's more, one of the rockets 'blew up' and the Chinese stripped out the satellite control systems. Nice, eh?
I also don't know where your link was going. It's all over the map. Mentions Wen Ho Lee, which was a separate case from the Hughes tech transfer which had nothing to do with the W-88. The charges lack cohesiveness, although they may be grounded in truth. I find it difficult to believe Reagan arranged for missile tech to be sold by China via a 'right-wing' government to anti-Communist forces. Shows what I know. *rolls eyes*
I never suggested US Space Development wouldn't have developed the way it did without Werner van Braun et al. And there's a big difference between developing a big rocket thruster and being able to aim it. Some halves are more equal than others.
If USA stops bombing civilians, respect human rights and does not commit war crimes, I'm sure far fewer will be inclined to act out of desparation as terrorists.
Where was this happening before September 11th? Before the Kobar Towers bombing? Before the Cole? Before the Kenya attack? WTC '93?
If we look at the biggest Muslim countries: Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Syria, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait, Somalia, Pakistan and Indonesia, I would say less than half are sponsors of terrorism. However, the only real active terrorism going on globablly now is from Islam. Not the IRA or the Basque rebels.
FWIW, in Iraq we're trying the same thing we tried in Germany and Japan, two very hostile countries who had proven incapable of peaceful coexistence in the modern world. We brought economic and political self determination. We're not installling dictators. Far from it. In fact, the US has never installed dictators, although we have supported regimes that were dictatorial, mainly because they were anti-U.S.S.R..
Once that threat was eliminated, guys who played both sides against the middle like Saddam Hussein and Moammer Gaddafy were S.O.L.. Now we're expanding trade with Libya and trying to get Iraq some prosperity and freedom and security. Admittedly the last bit is not easy considering the Islamic fundamentalists desire for Sharia and self destruction.
It turns out historically the one way to end fanaticism is to kill enough fanatics. Again, cf Germany or Japan circa 1940's.
You mean like a test server?
We are talking basic code control, right? I mean, this seems so fucking obvious I feel like I'm missing something.
Hey slashdot, can you help me figure out what question Captain Obvious is asking?
Wow.
This algae idea could grow on me.

younger AND gayer
That's umpossible.
...to "can you hear me now?"
Does SMTP transfer files? Yep, did it the other day. Is SMTP a protocol? I mean, it's got the P in there.
And it's got a 'T', too!
How about that!
If you had bothered to read the fine article, you would realize that four machines can't use the USB device at the same time with this, either.

I'm sure you knew this already, and hence the clever comment
/.!
Of course I did. I'm brilliant. That's why I post on

Schrodinger's cat is NOT hypothetical. He exists... probably
If you're not certain, then maybe you're talking about Heisenberg's cat...
I guess you got a crate of Abu Ghraib anal probes too, eh?

This is just like the American political scene.
Who'da thunk it?
How many /. teenagers are looking at the screen trying to figure out what it is you're asking.
Wait, what was the question?
"possibly void of any real evil now actually"
Har, freakin' har.

Some consider tax exemption as well (as other legal breaks/privileges) to be subsidies.

Nevermind.

I see you don't understand China's role in technological development.
They are not technology deveopers, merely technology copiers. In fact, they wouldn't have half their navigation tech if Clinton hadn't circumvented security recommendations for campaign contributions.
Let's not forget Corel did produce a serviceable Linux distro and ported WordPerfect to the Penguin as well.
