19 megabits on 3G

Why would anyone need 19megabits to a cell phone? In Slovakia cell phone users can watch live TV streams on their phones using "only" GPRS which is.1 megabit which is the first service of this kind in the world. Check out the URL to a http://media.a3boot.com/ta3/16102002/mobilvizia.as f . I dont see the need for 19 megabits. This cellphone would require an insane amount of storage to make this even remotely useful.

Every week or so, there is a story about a new version of Mozilla. Doesnt slashdot have anything else to post? If we were to post about a new version of any software that comes out, there would not be any informative articles to look at.
binary files are hard to evaluate... but it might be an interesting challenge to see what we can come up with.. somebody should set-up a site where people could post their results after the challenge was over.. that way we could check out how and what people did.. always good for learning....
In europe, the carriers all use gsm networks either 900 or 1800 mhz. This allows anybody to purchase a phone and not know what carrier they will be choosing but they can also buy a phone directly from providers (usually at a chepaer price) and that phone is LOCKED - will only work on one provider. This is almost the same as in America.. except for the fact that in America, the phones apporved and sold by carriers are models 1-5 years old - just look at the NOKIA 5160 still being sold!
All governments have their + and -. Germany seems to be into "common sense", open source and linux. Just few weeks ago there was an article on/. about Germany's government converting all government boxes to Linux...... too bad US government has all old people in there not willing to change their thinking to keep up with technology.....
It's crazy that this kind of stuff goes on nowadays. Hell, I remember when you could walk on the plane with no problems - now the people working airport who are intimidated by us geeks ripped Steve apart just so they can say: I did it. Crazy world.
Lately, Sony has been reviving the Palm OS by creating pimp devices like this. On the verge of Palm OS die out (Palm's devices suck in sales, and Handspring is going away from handhelds and into the mobile phone arena), Sony seems to be the only one still believing in Palm OS capabilities - and making better and better devices. (I just got one from Sony by the way)
Why do people waste time on useless studies? (ok, not useless) This technology would never be something put into use as it is not feasible and will definetely not be reliable to use as a spying tool. The only peopl to pursue this might be the government as they are always looking for ways to find out what people are up to.
Enough stupid comments from people... BEOS tried and did not succeed.. thats all there is... somebody else will come along and try to do what they started....... "Hello there Mr. Linus".....
if any of you have actually used the DaVinci then you would not be so excited about this annoucement - the davinci is the worst pda ever made..... take the batteries and it will use all the data! and it freezes up about 10 times an hour - and the only way to unfreeze it is the reset button which conviniently erases memory
Free software, free software, free software, free software
