I will probably be modded down for this, but why is this on the front page? Whats such a big deal about quicktime and itunes having new versions? I dont think this is front page worthy, maybe on apple./..org.
HotBot was a great search engine just as altavista started going downhill. The thing that bothered me about hotbot was the neon green color scheme they used. Looks like that has been fixed! HOORAY!
Why dont you just uninstall the version you have right now, delete all the files, (keep your data files of course)... and then just re-install from the original cd? This way you get back to the way you had it before the update. Then simply just dont update the software again, as it sounded like you were only updating because you knew you could, not because something was not functioning properly.....
truly an interesting concept but besides probably having bigger screen and more comfortable chair, how is this different from your local internet/gameing cafe? looks to me like that would be the same thing.
dont wanna sound like an advertisement but for just registering your domain with them for $25 a year you get free banner free business hosting with 20mb/1gb transfer from Doteasy.
i dont think that wifi can replace this technology. 3g has better range then wifi does and it does roaming between towers, whereas wifi is not capable of this yet. So if you are stationary, wifi might be the way to go, otherwise 3g will be the solution for people on the go. Somebody needs to come out with a killer app in order to get people to swtich to 3g, such as unmetered connections for reasonable flat rate fee, then it will be more likely to catch on.
or you could just leave them there so AOL will stop restocking them thus making less cd's and making less of an impact on the enviroment - all those aol cd's cant be too good for the EARTH
come on, give people a break.. just because they make a spelling error, does not mean they are not professional. if i had mod points - your comment would be flamebait.
A year ago or so I read an article about Verizon Wireless running a test run of "Caller Pays". It was a test run set-up with Verizon Wireless and a local telco. Whenever you called a cell phone, it would play you a short message letting you know that you would be paying for the call, and then give you a choice to hang up before incurring cost. The problem with having caller pays in the US, is the way cotracts were negotiated between telcos a long time ago. We still see the problems associated with this today. Take roaming for example, when you are roaming and receive a call, it wont show up on your bill for a couple of months. This is because it takes forever for all telcos to get data interchanged.
I am not sure what happened with this test pilot, as I never heard anything about again, but since it has not been implemented, I would imagine that it did not go so well.
That is a great idea. If this was wireless, that would be even better as you could do input in real time, completely eliminating the need for a keyboard. If you also added a button/switch that you could toggle between "pen" mode and "mouse" mode, it could also double as a mouse, thus eliminating the need for both. This would make it a complete solution.
- To Logitech -> something to think about
Looks to be a great product, but I do not see myself using it on daily basis, seems like it would hurt your wrist to hold it all day long. True you could stand and use it (thus eliminate back strain of sitting in front of the monitor all day long). For those who do a lot of presenting, this will be great, as most projector remotes with built in mouse functionality are ackward to use.....
When I talked about windows, I was talking about the whole company set-up in general, not just the app which is being moved from Unix to linux. You still have the averages joe accountant using Access to connect to a SQL database which then synchs with the mainframe every night.
Hiring a couple *nix hackers/gurus is a lot more cost effective then spending millions on Windows licenses. The only obvious block in moving to Linux is if the particular software package was not available. I hope this makes cars cheaper as we wont have to support the high Windows license costs everytime we buy a car!
Turns out the poster must not have read the whole article, since there are two fans not just one.
The Power Supply is actually serving 2 purposes in our dead silent PC. First of all it is of course going to be our PSU unit, but it is also the only thing with fans in the entire PC. That's right, when I say silent I mean it. Since it is serving this purpose as well, we are going for Tt's dual fan solution (they also offer single fan PSUs which should be even quieter).
Sony has always made really cool electronics. No other company in the world has such talented designers and engineers. Their products are not only top of the line, but also beautiful. I wish I had enough money to make my house strictly Sony.
I really think that Slashdot should mirror a page if there is no copyright information disclaimer on it. I am sure that most people who get/. ed would like that better then have their site brought down. Another idea is to have subscribers access to the story an hour before the nonpaying/.ers . This could raise the subscriptions.
It looks like daytime tv soap opera with a futuristic touch.........
I guess it's to speed up the filming of Terminator 4.
I prefer the magnet or throwing the disk out the window.
from gilmore girls to superman? hope he has not lost his testicles yet...........

im glad somebody brought this up.... i was wondering that myself where the submitter got this from? As far as I know the deepest part of the ocean is:
The Marianas Trench in the Pacific Ocean is 11,033 meters (36,201 feet) below sea level.

I could have used one of these when I was growing up and hated vaccuming the whole house. It took like 2 hours!
Please send me of these.
