Uwe Boll is the only director who can make the average Troma film look like high art. Has he ever made a decent film? If the news that there is Postal movie wasnt bad enough, gamers can look forward to having Dungeon Siege, Legacy of Kain and Far Cry are all due to get the Boll treatment soon enough. After House of the Dead, I refuse to see them in theatres, refuse to rent them, definately refuse to buy them, if more did the same maybe studios would get the hint and stop giving this bozo money.
Wonder how many of the mediocre comments are ps3 fanboys?? I just finished the demo, the atmosphere is awesome, good lighting effects, fantastic water effects, yep its a FPS but it looks to have a decent enough story and different enough setting to make it well worth while. Its really creepy, kind of like when I played F.E.A.R. the first time, the setting's 1950's look with the radio playing constantly gives it a weird haunting feel even when nothing is happening. Irrational has never let me down before (loved Freedom Force)so im looking forward to the full game.
If Hollywood really has to go after also ran robot properties to create movies why cant they at least go after something semi-repectable like Getter Robo G or Mazinger rather than one of the shows that tried to rip them off?
I dunno but I have a hard time beliveing its just coincidence that every single game using the ue3 engine due to be released this year has hit at least one delay.

Well written sci-fi is timeless regardless of whether its predictions come true. If accuracy was the prerequsite no one would read Jules Verne or H.G. Wells in school anymore. Still im looking forward to the Geek Rapture thats when Charles Babbage comes back to life to lead us all to Zion.
Nearly everyone in the world does something that some corporate group is uphappy with. Some end up legislated others get leaned on through other methods. The more small niches are made uncomfortable the more people become aware of what is going on. As a whole people are freakin lazy, we dont care what is going on around us as long as it doesnt effect us directly. Hopefully in the future they will setup checkpoint searches for people crossing the boarder for cheap meds, raid homes that backup recorded tv shows from their PVR's, round up people who play music loud enough for others to hear in public without a royalty, throw people who try to buy used media in the slammer.
OXM disks have always had a fee attached..the price of the magazine with or without the disk had a differnce in cover price of several dollars. They generally have had one timed exclusive demo and the rest was filled with the demos already on live, interviews, screenshots and other crap. As long as they stay with the same format...where is the problem? If they suddenly only offered demos if you purchased the OXM content (which would be suicide IMHO) that would be a different story, but so far every indication is that this is just a convenience for subscribers or non-subscribers who dont want to shell out $10 just to see whatever is on them.
Isnt this the same guy that went all postal in his blog when some reviewer didnt like his game? I think it was calling all cars. Dunno why that stuck in my mind, I just remember being amused by it at the time.
DeusEX, Thief and Chronicles of Riddick Butcher Bay are all grossly underrated as far as storyline goes. Compared to even most RPG's out there today they stand head and shoulders above 95% of the games out there. I'd go so far to say that the story of the Riddick game is actually better than the second movie. All three are completely different in genre and atmosphere and actually engage the player with a goal in mind far beyond getting to the next level. Prey was another that was fun to play and had a decent attempt at a story.
Is there an easier and more effective way??

If Time Warner was really concerned about it wouldnt it be easier and more effective to use their virtual truck (TW Self help) application to redirect the users browser start page to a list of instructions, tools and a support number to clean up their system? I have seen several instances were they redirect users to a "disabled due to non-payment" type pages...would a "Hey idiot your computer is infected" page be that difficult?
They mention 75% "engage" in-game advertisements, but dont define what engage is. If I'm playing a baseball game and hit a ball to the wall, I may be "engaging" the advertisement on the wall but I'm watching the ball. In racing games I "engage" billboards as a way of knowing where I am on the track (2 more turns and I finish the lap, etc). Maybe I am atypical but my memory of the advertisement is usualy more trained to its big square and blue than what it actaully says. How effective they are is questionable at best, advertising that I "notice" to the point of remembering the product usually affects me negatively, I will generally go out of my way to avoid it. That said, real billboard and signs in racing and sports games can add to the realisim, id much rather see a powerade ad than a Slurm soda one (unless im playing Blurnsball) I find fake ads more distracting than real ones.
I dont see this as abandoning the past as much as I do widening the future. Mario, Metroid and Zelda are all there or coming soon, Nintendo has simply expanded its horizons to attract a new audience. The Wii has created a buzz that hasnt been seen in the home gaming market since the Atari 2600, its become the cool thing to have for families, its very social and its accessable to anyone at any skill level. I had my in-laws who have trouble operating their dvd player participating in a game of Wii sports last night, if they can figure it out anyone can. Wii fit and Brain Training are perfect for them as well. The Wii is carving out a market that ensures it survival and expands the base of gamers across the board.
There is no doubt in my mind that the "Winner" in terms of product sold will be the Wii, however the important number for "traditional gamers" will be who comes in second. Either the 360 or ps3 could reach ps2 type sales numbers and still come in second. The "traditional gamers" are still there and are still a huge market to abandon them would be stupid, even Nintendo is aware of that.

I'm all for helping the poor and supporting 3rd world countries etc, but I can name at least 50 nations more deserving of the OLPC program than Nigeria and yes I know that not everyone in Nigeria is a scammer but why are we so eagar to help a country that does so little to help itself? The reason the 419 crap continues is because they have government that looks the other way, hold them accountable then give handouts.
If thats the case they should probably just drop Halo3, Blue Dragon, GTA IV and whatever else is in the pipe and focus on more things like the Viva Pinata party game, Uno and Sceneit! There is still the whole gaming market to think about, most gamers this generation will buy two or even all 3 consoles. If the neither the ps3 or 360 achieve numbers close to the previous generation you might as well concider console gaming dead. The biggest problem I see with the wii is the number of games purchased per console owned. I know six people near me with Wii's, none of them have as many games as I do and I only have three (Zelda, Wiiplay and Wiisports). Most of them are totally happy with Wii Sports.
After Atari started loosing marketshare after the 5200 they followed up with the and followed up with the 7800, Lynx and Jaguar before they gave up.
Sega kept trying after never beating Nintendo with the Master System, they were beat again with the Genesis by the SNES, by the Playstation with the Saturn and by the PS2 with the Dreamcast.
Though it was never brought stateside with the exception of the Turbografix, NEC competed from the early 80's to the mid 90's with several versions of the PC Engine.
Nintendo got spanked with the N64 and the Gamecube but still have kept going.
Which companies are you speaking of? The only ones I know to throw in the towel early in the gaming market was 3D0 and frankly with its price and lack of interactivity it was dead before it started.
They still have nearly 3x the install base of the ps3, a huge lineup of games coming in the next 6 months and a 65nm redesign that will allow the to finally be profitable on the hardware side. Ditching the Zune i can see, but ditching a product that is just edging towards a profit? And shifting towards a market that is shrinking by the day is absoutely absurd.
Hmm I know that after he was replaced by Kaz Hirai as President last year he was named chairman of SCEI and CEO but about a month and half ago Sony said he would retire instead and be named "Honorary Chairman" and Hirai was given the CEO title as well. Did something change?
Evidently im just a Bioware fanboy, they have made some games I didnt care for but I liked Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR and even Jade Empire. They seemed pretty consistent to me, no they usually are not necessarily innovative technology wise but they make a tight game with decent depth, storyline and replay value, which I will take over innovative and boring any day.
