You realize by now I'm sure that this technology would allow for shared cars, or even something like a fleet of cabs. It would be useful just about anywhere that has roads regardless of population density.
I for one look forward to this technology. The only thing that could fill me with pure and abject terror... Horror... would be if Microsoft were responsible for the software.
This post may be marked Funny eventually. I am 100% deathly serious, pun intended.
behold! "Where do you to go today?" takes new meaning!
Ditto that - salient point here is a much larger sensor which has a big effect on reducing noise. It's still not anywhere near the size of a DSLR, and at least in the pics I saw (all taken in daylight), there was a lot of "smearing" at 100%... so diffraction is coming into play here.
Note also that the samples were all "wide-angle" - the "telephoto" is not optical - basically just using a subset of the sensor to do it electronically. So makes the device much simpler (no moving parts), but in essence is digital zoom, so image quality is going to suffer as you zoom in.
Nifty idea though.
i watched a video review of this thing. there seems to be an actual mechanical shutter in there. also, xenon flash.
vlc works *better* on windows than on linux. drag and drop has never been a problem, it plays any damn format you throw at it. it can even capture network streams and encode them into whatever you want. it repairs partially broken avis. it does not care if your file has chunks missing. the ui is the simplest you can get without removing any essential features. it can use your bluetooth earphones to play/pause/next. once (in ye olde vista days) my fucking graphics driver crashed while watching a movie in vlc. it switched to s/w rendering on the fly, while aero went to fallback mode in the background, error notification appears saying 'your graphics has crashed'. after 30-40 seconds the drive gets restarted, aero comes back and vlc switches back to h/w rendering. all this without any interruption in the playback. i think that is amazing. i dunno why you guys think it crashes hard. on linux, sometimes right click menu is a bit buggy while in fullscreen. on windows vlc is the nearest you can get to the ideal video player.
i'll tell you why i and most other people who download free stuff do it: because we can. if it becomes too much pain in the ass, my media consumption will go amazingly down, i'll mostly start listening to fm radio. its already happened with games. the new stuff is just to heavily drm infested to bother. so i don't buy them. i play only the older games that i can easily download and play without any hassles. note that my games expenditure is still zero bucks.
seeking does not work. it starts buffering again from the point you seek to, which is completely annoying because it takes time to buffer hd streams. the reality is that right now, flash is miles ahead of anything else for the purposes of streaming video over the net. for example, look at any of youtube's live streams, all sorts of auto-bandwidth shit goes on in the background and the video quality varies seamlessly without any annoying breaks. ditto south park studios. also, i hate not being able to control the loadingof the video in html5. for flash, i just put all plugins in 'click to play'.
the most popular usb data card is tata photon, which uses a mix of cdma, edge, 3g and 3.5g networks. it basically chooses the best available thing in the area.
Gosh, thanks. I definitely didn't see the link. As I said earlier, the story doesn't include the entire text message which seems pretty important here. I know I'm supposed to just condemn this but I'd rather actually know what happened before freaking out. My apologies for wanting some context.
This is slashdot. Amerika is the center of all evil. Get with the programme.
ftfy. if you're gonna bash the us, do it properly.
india also once went to war against pakistan, and thoroughly beat their army of us made tanks. the bottomline is that old shit from the us army is just that: old shit. just having been part of us military does not make them superior.
this. ffs, our former telecom minister is in jail. you can't be sure about any deal the government makes. maybe they chose the french planes just because someone put in a well placed bribe.
Rs has actually been used here in india since forever. no reason for it to be offensive. only very recently we've made a sign of our own, and i dunno how to type it here in this field.
you do realize that data and 'logic' both are just data, right? if i can pull data out of the hw usb thingy, i can pull out the 'logic' of how the ai responds to a particular move.
Personally, I'd prefer the last option, applied worldwide.
+1 the us essentially defines the state of the web. facebook, youtube, google, twitter, ebay, paypal, wikipedia and countless other websites that generate almost all the data on the web are american, hosted mainly in the us, founded in the us and with their global hqs in the us. a law restricting the web in the us is extremely concerning for every one who uses the internet, not just american residents.

slippery ice covered roads already are quite covered by the computer in your existing car.

hardware acceleration of h264 uses vastly lesser amount of battery on my win7 laptop. i imagine that might be a good reason for some people.
^^this.
i hope they haven't fucked up the windows version. i don't care about macs.
go and read the blog.

and youtube can go fuck itself, right?? because the html5 player still can't play shit, even on chrome.
it should be pointed out that a similar thing is happening in android with regards to app permissions.
In Japan, they also have W-CDMA (UMTS), but at least the phones there typically use uSIM cards, which just happen to be similar to GSM SIM cards.
which is the case in the rest of the world too.

despite all of your rambling bullshit, you cannot write apps that will properly multitask for ios AND will get listed in the official market.

and drones are completely fucking useless against countries with an actual air force (like pakistan, china).
india also once went to war against pakistan, and thoroughly beat their army of us made tanks. the bottomline is that old shit from the us army is just that: old shit. just having been part of us military does not make them superior.
It is a damned corrupt country.

imo, awesome new weapons tech == good
